Rhett is swoony and charming and really wants to care for Jensen. He really appears to be a stand up and a reliably good guy. In this book we also get to see a softer side of Jensen and not just the calculating one.u2063

Even better than the 1st one!! This author delivered a fast paced, angsty story that was full of secrets & drama. I was hooked from the very first page.
This is the second installment from Monica Murphy’s Damaged Hearts Series.
This is Rhett’s book… There is something refreshing when you read a book from a guy’s point of view…
Book 2 will answer some of Rhett’s questions about Jensen’s identity… about her premeditated plan… and this book will also reveal some ugly truth’s about his own family.
It’s not always what it seems.
Curious yet?
One Week Girlfriend fans will definitely devour this series! I can’t wait to read the final installment!
I read this book in one sitting; it was that riveting. I just needed to find out what happens next. The plot was getting more and more complicated and poor Rhett was literally stuck between a rock and a hard place.
The first book ends when Rhett appears at the strip club where Jensen works as a waitress. A squabble ensues where Rhett feels hurt, betrayed and strikes back in an insulting manner. I liked that Jensen makes clear that the fact that she works at a strip club and she waits tables topless doesn’t make her a whore, it makes her a student in urgent need for money to pay her studies. It was a lesson to Rhett on how the other side of the coin (understand the poor people) live and make decisions. I loved that Rhett has the open mind to understand and to accept his mistakes. He’s a real man, open to new ideas, open to accept other people as they are. He may initially be clueless but he catches on.
Eventually he and Jensen make up and continue their relation, not without problems. Now Rhett’s family get into the picture and he has to balance his act. He doesn’t want them to know about Jensen’s work, not because he despises it but because he knows it will cause him problems with his family. Anyway, he hates her job because it makes him jealous but knows better than to convince Jensen to resign. The poor guy can’t win the battle.
Once Jensen is brought into the fold of the Montgomery family, we start to see all the dysfunctional interactions between them. Rhett has an older brother and a younger sister. Their mother died when the younger sister was born and soon after, their father brought Diane as his second wife. This is the woman that Jensen believes is her mother. Diane is a major B@tch, snobby, hungry for money, status and power, even though she scorns her husband and publicly berates him. They are mutually unfaithful and yet try to give an appearance of happy family. When Rhett learns something that may rip the family apart, he’s forced to keep silent and the tension of trying to keep Jensen’s working circumstances under the rug, takes all the different turmoils into a major hurricane. And the book ends in a spectacular cliffhanger that makes us crazy for the final installment.
Were they more than friends, less than lovers or just a hot mess? The quest continues. Murphy re-enters the mind and heart of two damaged souls. His Wasted Heart is another piece to an already heartbreaking puzzle. In his own words Rhett seeks the answers to a tragic situation. His pain leaps off the pages like a dagger to the heart. Love is what he seeks, but anger bubbles just below the surface. It’s complicated, but no less emotionally impactive.
First of all, His Wasted Heart is part of a series and cannot be read as a standalone. You will be confused and will miss out on the foundation of when and why Jensen and Rhett started.
In my Her Defiant Heart review, I said that I wanted to know more about Jensen. To find out the real Jensen and not just the calculated Jensen that she had become in order to get revenge. Well, Murphy delivered. We start to see the real person behind that facade. She’s caring, scared and has a past that makes her vulnerable and it only drove me to like her more.
In His Wasted Heart, Jensen and Rhett’s feelings are starting to get deeper but she still has her secrets and now so does he. We learn that Rhett’s family is crazy and come with their own set of drama, which will on add fuel to the fire once everyone’s secrets are out.
I still maintain just how sweet Rhett is. There are some things he does that I think people might try to label him as a bit of a jerk but I disagree. I think he expects a lot but gives a lot in return. Once again, we are left with a cliffhanger and this one was a monster. I’m dying to get my hands on Damaged Hearts so secrets will be revealed and I can hopefully get the HEA that I’m dying for.
If you want a sweet revenge to lovers story that will keep you engaged with a hero that will sweep you off your feet then you need to start this series ASAP
