A warm home for broken hearts, the Fireside Grill serves up hope and healing in equal measure. Stacey Lynn’s sensual, deeply emotional series heats up as a jaded restaurateur falls hard for a woman who’s hiding from a damaged past. Declan James lost his last ounce of trust the day his wife walked out the door, leaving him to save the restaurant they built together. Throwing himself into his work, … himself into his work, Declan swears off women—or at least, women who expect him to stick around in the morning. But when he discovers a skittish beauty scrounging through the Fireside’s trash to feed her dog, Declan offers her a job and a place to rest her head. There’s just something about her that awakens his protective side. And soon, not even that mangy mutt can stop Declan from caring for her.
After one too many trips to the ER, Trina Wilson finally gathered the courage to leave her husband, taking only her car and hyperactive boxer. Unfortunately, life on the run proves harder than she anticipated—until Declan takes a leap of faith on her. But even as Trina starts to see beyond his gruff exterior, she can’t relax, even for a moment. Not with her husband still tracking her down. What Trina doesn’t know is that in Declan, she has a powerful ally—and, if she would only follow her heart, a devoted lover.

Trina has been an abused wife for more years than she would like to admit but she stayed with him for a very unselfish reason but now it’s time for her to leave before he kills her. In His to Love Declan mentions that there has been some activity in the alley behind his restaurant and he is determined to scare the kids off, little does he know that the person in the alley will change his life forever! Declan is the strong silent type that all the women swoon over but when he meets Trina she isn’t swooning…she’s cringing. My heart broke for her, she was so beaten down, but yet she tried to stay strong and positive.
The chemistry simmered through the pages and then it began to boil when Trina realized that Declan is a man that can be trusted to never hurt her and to protect her from the evils of her husband and his family.
I cannot wait for His to Cherish which is Aidan and Chelsea’s story, after the way this book ended you know that their story is going to be a heartbreaker.
Happy Reading!!!
His To Protect is the first book I have ever read by Stacey Lynn and I really enjoyed her writing style! This book was an amazing read for me. The only reason I didn’t give it a 5 star rating is because the epilogue was a painful cliffhanger that will drive me crazy til the next book comes out. So for the cost to my metal health I took off a 1/2 a star. Just sayin’!
I loved this book so much it will be hard for me to gush all about the awesomeness of it without spoiling too much but I will try. Declan was so yummy. A hero in every sense of the word. From the second he met Trina he was sweet, understanding, and super alpha protective. He went out of his way to make her feel safe. And it was beautiful how she bloomed under his support. Trina was brave and strong but vulnerable, and damaged. A victim of domestic violence she tried to be the perfect wife. Because of her husband’s abuse and control she had lost who she really was, but she was brave enough to leave her husband and start over. I really loved that even though both Trina and Declan had been hurt they didn’t push each other away.
Trina and Declan had a strong connection and I was rooting for them from the start. They both had endearing personalities that drew me in. I found their relationship very romantic. There is just something extremely sweet and sexy about a big strong man protecting someone that needs help, being gentle and encouraging. I really liked the secondary characters especially Tyson and Blue. Their book was the first one in the series, and I am thinking of going back and reading their story too. I think Aidan’s book is the next one since the cliffy was about him and I can’t freaking wait to get my hands on it. I really really want to know what is going to happen!!! This was a great read and I am really glad I came across this author.
I first read this in early 2017, and after reading Knocked Up by Stacey Lynn, I decided that a reread was in order. I’m glad I did; I enjoyed this the first time I read His to Protect, but enjoyed it just as much the second time!
Trina just left- literally ran away from- her abusive husband, who is a well-connected and high power figure with a lot of resources. Declan is trying to keep his restaurant/bar from going under after his wife left him a few months earlier. He finds Trina going through his dumpster to find food for her dog. Instantly, Declan feels the need to protect her, while not fully knowing what Trina’s story is.
I enjoyed His to Protect. At times, it felt a like it was moving a little slow, but I loved Declan and Trina, as well as all of the side characters! I recommend this book!
~3.5 Stars ~
Although His to Protect can be read as a standalone, we do first meet Declan in His to Love. We didn’t really get to know him and there was always something about him that made me want more. So I was excited when I saw that he was getting his own book.
Trina Wilson has packed up and left her abusive husband. She has hardly any money but has a plan to get as far away from him as possible. When she makes a stop in Detroit, she thought she would be there for just a few days until she moved on. That is until Declan finds her rummaging through his bar’s dumpsters in order for her to get food for her dog. He immediately takes an interest in helping her. Will she accept his help or will she continue on with her plan to run as far away from her husband, leaving behind the new man that wants to protect her?
I liked the fact that Trina worked hard to be independent and wouldn’t allow herself to be sucked back into her husband’s lies. Although she has been running from him, it takes guts to make the first step to get away. When Declan offers his help, she’s semi-reluctant because of her past. She definitely had an internal battle between accepting help and doing it alone.
I adored Declan. He knows exactly what he wants and he works hard to achieve it. He’s loyal and extremely patient. His protectiveness over Trina seems to actually be exactly what she needs to heal and move on. He puts her before anything else and allows her to process life events on her on time and in her own way. He’s just your overall great guy with a big heart.
I also like the fact that everyone in this book is just one big supportive group of people who love and protect each other. The group is pretty eclectic yet they all click together.
Overall, I enjoyed this book and was happy to get Declan’s story. The epilogue did set us up for the next book and I’ve been hoping we might get more Aidan and Chelsea. If you are looking for an overall sweet, swoon worthy guy who will do everything to protect the things most important to him, then this book is for you.
