I will live by the code of conduct…but rules are meant to be broken.Speed junkie and bodyguard Lars Ivanov steps in to guard a famous race car driver just in time to rescue a beautiful French-American press agent from a bullet too. Guarding Lillian with his body is the easy part, but discovering who is out for her blood is another story. Personally, he thinks someone is just trying to shut the … trying to shut the irritating woman up…and who knew that’s as easy as kissing her?
Lillian Delphine is only doing her job when she finds herself in the line of fire. Now she’s got a big, grumpy-looking bodyguard claiming he’s trying to keep her safe. What he means is ordering her around. While he’s great at impersonating an impenetrable stone wall, she only sees an overbearing brute. But he does have very nice eyes. Occasionally he makes her laugh. And he’s good at using that muscular body for more than blocking bullets.
While Lars fights to save her, he realizes he’s getting far too close to the woman. And Lillian would rather take her chances with the men who want her dead than spend one more minute with the infuriating, self-important and… Oh who is she kidding? The real dangers lie in losing her heart.

Holy crap!! What a book!! Edge of your seat romantic suspense done at its absolute best! It’s gripping, romance, drama, emotions, heat and action! My mind is blown away with how fantastic this author is!! Her books are ones up pick up and can never put back down! His to Defend should be read by every romantic suspense lover out there.
This is the second installment in The Guard series. This was well written and had a great storyline that kept me entertained. Lars graduated from Yale early and was recruited by Homeland Security Intelligence Division. He also trained with the CIA. Now he is a part of The Guard but almost lost everything because they thought he was a Russian spy. He is assigned to protect race car driver Pierre Moreau. Lillian is the press agent for Pierre Moreau. Her schedule is already busy so adding babysitting him to make sure he m makes his sponsor’s obligations is frustrating. This has danger, suspense, action, sizzling hot chemistry and so much more.

What an adrenaline rush!
As the second story in this series, “His to Defend” had some big footprints to follow. Let me tell you that it had NO trouble following them. Lars and Lillian’s story provides quite an adrenaline rush. My only suggestion is that you have plenty of time set aside before starting it because you won’t be able to put it down until the final word.

This was a fast paced read. I felt like I just started it, and then it was over. No worries, I wasn’t short changed on a story. I was fully engaged from start to finish.
I liked Lars and Lillian. I was glad that things had changed for him from the last book. I really liked the way Lil handled Pierre. The racetrack scene was smooth. I did find it both curious and surprising at how Lil handled the safe houses.
The way members of the Guard would speak was almost cult like in nature, but the Guard is not a cult all. They abide by a certain set of rules. The whole Guard setup is interesting.
It seems like there are so many stories left to tell. I’m looking forward to North, Roman, and Madeleine’s books. Of course, after a bit of a rollercoaster ride, Lars and Lil end up with their HEA.

This is another well written book in this series that drew me in and kept me engaged I still believe his series has a slightly different feel to Em’s normal work but that is in no way a criticism I f you read the fist book in the series “His to Defend” then you already know Lars Ivanov he is the Russian born but American raised guard who was suspected of treason in the first book Now he has proven himself but there is still tension between him and Roman and him and Madeline
Lars is tasked with been the bodyguard of Le Mens driver Pierre Moreau they know that the attempt on his life will be made during the race and as Lars is the best guard behind the wheel he is the one tasked to protect him but when Pierre press agent Lillian Delphine becomes caught in the cross fire he has to go on the run with her and she become his latest ward. So begins a cat and mouse game as the guard try to figure out why she has become the target rather than Pierre at the same time Lars is struggling with his ward. Not only he deeply attracted to her but he knows that he can’t act on it another black mark against him will see him thrown out of the guard and possible his death but he is also having trouble controlling her and she continually runs from him and takes herself to new safe houses and Madeline’s interference doesn’t help. With the tension building between them will he give in and when he asks for the rules to be changed so that he can be with her the support he gets will be from a source he didn’t expect. Looking forward to the next book which will be Bodhi North’s story
This series is picking up steam…
Any misgivings I had with the first story, attributed to protocol around the security group, were muted as Lillian and Lars picked up the baton and ably kept this action-packed series arc going. I liked both characters. Lars, a Russian transplant, who made waves wherever he went to Lillian, who was all about doing what was expected and right. Both had unexpected layers however as their stint as bodyguard/reluctant body played out. Lars was not all bad boy and Lillian had her edginess too. Together the sparks flew! A lot of back and forth, mostly from Lars who took his time figuring things out, meant the action had to share moments with the romance that kept vying for attention.
I am invested now and am already looking forward to what comes next…
*I happily reviewed this story

Lars Ivanov is a loner, working for The Guard on bodyguard assignment to protect a race car driver. Lillian Delphine (“Lil”) is a fearless, competent young woman who is the press agent for this famous race car driver in France. When the assassination attempt is made on not only the race car driver but on Lil as well, the Guard separates their locations and puts Lil with Lars for her protection and to find out what is really going on. Unfortunately, there is an unexpected major attraction between the two of these equally strong-willed and independent people which pretty much guarantees fireworks! She is his ward now and he is supposed to resist any kind of relationship beyond protector! Will they give in to their attraction towards one another or will Lars follow the rules he is well aware of? Will he keep Lil safe? Will they figure out where this attack is coming from and why?
This is a fast-action, great story line read. The characters are well-portrayed and very likable, especially as they banter with each other. The story will definitely hold the reader’s full attention! Grab your copy and enjoy the exhilarating tension!
I was lucky enough to get a free copy of this book through BookSprout and I voluntarily chose to review it. An awesome story, well written. Another hit for Em Petrov. I am never disappointed with a story from Ms. Petrova. Some mystery and some funny things happen. I don’t do spoilers so get the book and see what I mean. This one is worth you time and effort. An easy read but take your time or you will miss some of the good things.
We are back with The Guard but the story stands alone and enough information is given that you don’t miss anything from the prior book. Although I recommend reading that one as well.
Lars is a hard man and lives by the code. Lillian throws a wrench in those plans when he has to protect her. Their attraction is immediate but she’s in danger. I don’t know that I liked his constant mentioning of the difference in her body compared to other women but in the context it does make sense that he was trying to figure out his attraction to her.
The story is fast-paced with danger and action at almost every turn. Their relationship didn’t have anywhere else to go but up and their fire is undeniable. I love the direction The Guard is moving into and can’t wait to see more!
An exciting book two in The Guard series! The storyline is fast pace, action-packed, engaging, funny, witty, and well written with suspense, mystery, danger, intense passion, twists and turns, and more. The characters you will love; the chemistry between them is off the charts. Definitely recommended.

This book two about the Guard, and this time they have returned for a mission in France to stop the assassination of a race car driver, but like always everything was a lot more complicated than originally anticipated. They had to put guards on the driver and his manager both with the threat lasting for weeks instead of just one race. Lars the Guard on the manager, Lillian Delphine had an electrifying attraction to each other to the point Lars decided to take her to the US to put her in a safe house, so he could put some space between them, because of the Guard’s code of honor. There was a great deal of action and intrigue that will keep turning the pages to find out who was behind the murder plot and why from beginning to end.

His to Defend is a action packed book full of alpha hotness Lars Ivanov and headstrong sassy independent Lillian Delphine. Lars will do anything to protect Lillian. These two are wonderful together and this amazing story keeps you on the edge of your seat.
Em Petrova sets up the book at the start – and then turns everything we expect on its head. Readers of the first Guard book will recognize Lars in this, and that is in itself a pleasure. He is assigned Lillian as his ward when an expected hit shows a potentially different target, and that is a match made in – well, verbal skirmish heaven. As much as they annoy each other, there is heat, and this is against Lars’ vow as a Guard. An avid racing fan, I’d have liked more racing, but, as an equally avid suspense reader, I’m not complaining about this storyline – if anything, the end came too quickly. Readers of the first of The Guard books will welcome the return of those characters and greater insight into them, but the background, while useful, is not essential to enjoying this book. It’s not one to start late at night because you won’t want to put it down.

“His to Defend” is the second book in author Em Petrova’s The Guard series. Once again this has become a series I eagerly wait for the next book to be released. Lars and Lillian are complete opposites and neither one’s type. That didn’t stop a slow burn of sexual attractiveness and chemistry to start smoldering between the two as Lars protects Lillian from those determined to silence her. Will they give in to their budding attraction towards one another or will Lars live up to the oath he took to The Church, vowing to never have physical relations with one of his wards? This is a compelling read as two characters dance on the edge of reasoning as they determine the difference between right and wrong. When it comes to matters of the heart, lines can easily become blurred.
Another definite must read by one of my favorite authors!
I loved Lars and Lillian!
Wow! The sparks are explosive in this fast-paced action romance! Lars is just back from a mission that had his fellow guard members suspecting his loyalties so he’s trying really hard to follow all the rules, but he hadn’t planned on a firecracker named Lillian!
I loved that Lillian is so NOT his type. Lars, however, is EVERY woman’s type! Smoking hot, beyond sexy, focused and protective and alpha to the core! I loved that he’s completely knocked sideways by his attraction to her and he honestly doesn’t know what to do with these feelings that are coming out of nowhere. She’s fierce and bold and a little bit brazen when necessary. I fell in love with these two right away and loved watching the push-pull between them as they try to figure out what’s going on — both between them as a couple, and with the forces that want her dead.
We get a charming and delightful HEA, along with an invitation to Oz and Rose’s wedding. We also get to know more of the folks they work with and get a deeper understanding of the Guard and how they operate. It’s a fascinating world, and I highly recommend reading both books in this series. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
The second book in The Guard series a well written suspense story that kept me turning pages. Guard Lars Ivanov and Lillian Delphine a French-American press agent ‘s story.
