Can two hearts entwined by hardship move on to form a healthy bond? From the author of His to Love and His to Protect, this tender, bittersweet romance brings together a man who loses everything—and a woman with everything to give. Chelsea Dwyer arrives home from her job at the middle-school library in Latham Hills, Michigan, expecting another quiet evening—until she hears the screams for help … she hears the screams for help through her living room window. As the first witness to a terrible accident involving two local students, Chelsea doesn’t anticipate how her own life will be irrevocably changed by the father of one of the boys. In the wake of tragedy, she’s the only one who seems to understand his grief. Chelsea’s a survivor, too—and she knows that there are brighter days ahead.
As a single father, Aidan Deveraux worked his entire life to provide a stable home for his son, Derrick. Without him, Aidan feels the deepest despair imaginable. The one thing that keeps him going is his connection with the woman who tried to save his son. Hard as he tries, Aidan just can’t stay away. Chelsea’s warm embrace is the comforting solace he desperately craves—and it doesn’t hurt that Aidan had noticed the beautiful librarian and wanted to ask her out for years. Now that she’s in his life, he doesn’t ever want to let go.

When I read His to Protect the events at the end of the story set up this book so I knew, I knew that this would be a book I needed to read when my husband and kids weren’t home. I cried from page one through just about the entire book. I had to take a few breaks because I couldn’t see the words on the page through my tears. Being a parent of four kids I worry about them everyday and hope and pray that no harm will come to them, well in this story Aiden is dealt every parents worst nightmare. Parents are not meant to bury their children, we are suppose to watch them grow, fall in love, and start families of their own. Unfortunately page one of the prologue starts with Derrick having a fatal skateboarding accident; talk about ripping your heart out. Man! Devastating!
Aidan and Chelsea have admired one another from a far, each of them feeling the attraction but not doing anything about it until that fateful day changes everything. I liked the slow progression of their friendship/relationship, nothing felt rushed and the story progressed over a seven month period that left us with a HFN and the knowledge that a HEA would be happening. The chemistry between the two was phenomenal even through the pain and grief they were both dealing with you could feel the want and need from both of them.
I have been enjoying this series immensely but I have to say that this story right here is the one that will slay you. It’s a must read with a box of tissues and some chocolates nearby….and maybe a very large glass of wine.
Happy Reading!!!
Aiden has had a tragic event happen in his life with the loss of his son, so he is going through some major grief. He’s known Chelsea for a while and has had a crush on her but never acted on it, but they grow closer as Chelsea tries to be there for him. There’s some really good passion between them and they do have some sweet moments. I wasn’t a fan of how Chelsea was expected to deal with Aiden’s shifts in moods; there were times she wouldn’t even know that she supposedly did something wrong, but their friends would sort of force her to be there for him. Yes, he needs to be given a little leeway, but Chelsea went above what one would expect of someone entering into a new relationship with someone; she has a good heart. She gets treated poorly often, so it would’ve been nice if she was more vocal about her displeasure. The book is mainly Chelsea’s POV with some chapters from Aiden’s; I would’ve liked to have a few more Aiden chapters to get a better feel for how he feels about Chelsea. They have good chemistry; they are good for each, but I did feel like Chelsea was too accommodating at times and deserved more in return. Aiden was understandably not himself; he’s dealing with something very difficult, so it’s tough to blame him for some of his actions. You can tell he’s normally a nice guy, so you want to support him. Aiden and Chelsea are both characters you want good things for, but I felt myself standing up for Chelsea more because no one else really does. It was good to see the past characters from the previous books; although, I could’ve definitely done without all the men being ogled constantly by the women in this book. Yes, they are hot and have nice butts, but I don’t need to read about it so many times. It was still fun to see how the other couples are doing. An entertaining, heartfelt romance. Well written story that kept me turning the page.
My God this book wrecked me. I was a hot mess starting with page one. His to Cherish, book 3 in the Fireside Series, picks up right where book 2 His to Protect left off. This story deals with loss and grief and made me cry so many times I had Rudolph nose. I don’t want to give too much away but I do want to put a trigger warning in my review for those that want to know a child dies! I loved the hero Aidan. He was so raw. His pain felt so real that I truly did cry many times in this book! Aidan was charming even through his grief and my heart ached for him. I felt a deep connection to him and Chelsea the heroine. Chelsea was a great heroine. She was giving, loving, and had a big heart. She was there for Aidan giving everything she had to him. She was also hurting and she has felt loss deeply before so she was relatable to Aidan.
They made a cute couple but their love was rooted in deep pain. They had a rocky and volatile start with sorrow so deep it filled the pages. It had my feels all over the place. Don’t get me wrong though, there was tons of sweet moments too and lots of passion not all pain and tears! I would have liked to catch up more with Declan and Trina from book two but instead I only got a glimpse. I did like the budding romance between Dave and Camden and I’m looking forward to seeing were things go with that! This book was a great read that really got me emotional. The only reason it’s a 4 star instead of 5 is I wanted more of an epilogue. The book had more of a hfn feel than a hea.
4.5 Stars
After rereading His to Protect, I was anxious to reread His to Cherish. This story really hit home for me. I am an emotional reader, and the characters really resonated with me.
Chelsea and Aidan have skirted around each other for the last two years. They have common friends, as well as Chelsea works at the same school that Aidan’s son goes to. After an accident that Chelsea witnesses with Aidan’s son, Derrick, Aidan and Chelsea bond in a way that he can’t with his friends. Their closeness continues to grow, while they both continue to struggle with personal demons.
I loved how I felt all of the emotions that the characters experienced. I cried quite a few times while reading (again- this is no negative! I love this!). I loved how Aidan and Chelsea bonded through the toughest of times, and persevered to find happiness. I highly recommend His to Cherish.
Man, this series just keeps getting better and better. First of all, this can 100% be read as a standalone. With that being said, the Fireside novels have all been really good so I encourage you to read them all.
Aidan has been a single father since he was eighteen years old and there was nothing more important in his life than his son, Derrick. When a tragic accident happens and Derrick loses his life, Aidan is left alone and devastated. People are there for him, so to speak, but they don’t seem to get him and understand what he is going through. Except for his son’s school Librarian. There is something about her that just speaks to him. Something that makes him think that she just might have an idea of what he is going through and what he needs.
Chelsea’s heart is bleeding as well. Derrick’s accident happened right outside her house and she did everything she could to get him help as soon as possible. Over the past two years, she’s formed a special connection with Derrick and his best friend Shane and the loss of him is just as devastating to her. Wanting to help Aidan grieve but not really knowing how to do it, Chelsea separates herself and throws herself into projects. When Aidan shows up looking to help in order to clear his mind, she silently allows him the peace that he needs. Will she be able to help Aidan heal or will the loss of his son be too much for him to overcome?
This book was by far the most emotional book for me in the Fireside series. Immediately my heart bled for Aidan and I felt like I was grieving along with him. It’s a situation that many people have had to endure, unfortunately and I think that readers will really relate to his struggle. While there are certainly a lot of downs, which is expected with a loss like that, it’s good to see the stolen happy moments and the small healing process that he goes through when Chelsea becomes more prominent in his life.
Chelsea was the perfect balance for Aidan. She is loving and caring but my importantly, she is patient. That goes a very long way with someone who is heartbroken and grieving. She seems to know exactly what Aidan needs and she doesn’t push him. She allows him to process things as they come along and let him figure it out on his own. Although she’s always there for him, no matter what.
“I’m so fucked up, Chelsea. So broken, damaged in a way I’ll never be the same man I once was. I have no fucking clue what I’m doing most days anymore and I’m not lying here, making promises to you. I’m saying that I’ve wanted you, Derrick wanted you for me, and I’m tired of sitting back, not living in the way I preached to my son.”
Overall, I really enjoyed this book. It’s heartbreaking. It’s devastating. But most importantly, it’s healing and hopeful. The story is real and raw and relatable to anyone that it easily grips your heart and doesn’t let go. It will hurt but it will heal. Honestly, you don’t want to miss this.
“His to Cherish” gave me all the feels right from the start. Whilst the first chapter is completely heartbreaking, the introduction – no matter how small – of Aidan and Chelsea was perfect.
Aidan has just lost his son. His world. He can’t imagine how life can possibly continue without him.
Chelsea is a teacher at the local school and is witness to the terrible accident that killed Aidan’s son.
When Aidan has no idea what to do, or how to move forward, he finds himself in the front yard of Chelsea’s house. Chelsea doesn’t ask questions. Chelsea doesn’t make him talk. Chelsea just is.
And so begins their friendship.
Until they both realize they are falling for each other. Can they allow themselves to fall in love after such a tragedy? Are they allowed happiness after what has happened?
The chemistry of Aidan and Chelsea is beautifully written. Throughout a story where the subject of loss and sadness takes place, to be able to still write that chemistry between two people is pretty special.
I’ve not read anything of Stacey Lynn’s before. And I am glad to have now found her! I have bought the two previous “Fireside” novels, in this series; and am really looking forward to seeing where this series began.
