CASON
Falling for your best friend’s dad is a really bad idea.
But I can’t think rationally when it comes to Emery Cross. Ever since the night he kissed me, he’s all I think about. He makes my head spin in the best way, and for once, I feel like I’m where I’m meant to be. Then, he turns as cold as his glacier blue eyes. Refusing to let me close to him.
EMERY
Cason is everything I should avoid. … should avoid. Sure, he makes me laugh, and when I’m around him, I forget about the things weighing me down. But it could never work between us. We’re too different. It doesn’t matter that he feels the same, that he’s persistent. Some lines should never be crossed.
This is Book 1 in the Unexpected Love series from Jaclyn Osborn! A contemporary romance with low-angst and a HEA guaranteed

Best friend’s father ranks pretty high on my hot tropes list, though I usually prefer that the friend be a little older than 18. However, in His Temptation, Jaclyn Osborn managed to address the issues inherent in pairing 36-year-old Emery with his son Ryan’s 18-year-old best friend Cason skillfully and with just the right amount of drama.
Of course, feelings get hurt, not the least those of Ryan, but nothing’s over-the-top. Emery and Cason are hot af together, too. I read this all in one sitting and thoroughly enjoyed it. Note – there’s no daddy kink here at all, and I didn’t miss it.
Emery and Cason brought out all the emotions in this age gap, best friend’s dad romance. While this did end on a happily for now because Cason was young, the story still had enough happiness to think the two men will eventually get their happily ever after. A five star romance!
Wow! Jaclyn Osborn delivered a riveting story! Steamy, emotional story of an age gap couple that certainly doesn’t leave you neutral. It’s impossible to stay impartial – you dive all in and the emotions are palpable! Loved the plot and the characters. A very well crafted book!
Independent reviewer for Gay Romance Reviews, I was gifted my copy of this book.
*insert sigh*
I can’t decide whether I actually liked this book, or not, and it’s annoying me cos I can’t figure out WHY!
The plot isn’t a particularly original one, and you can see what’s gonna happen coming at you like a freaking train wreck and you can’t stop it. But I actually liked that, that I could see it all coming at me, for the most part, anyway.
Both guys have a say, in the first person. Each voice is very different, and clear, given their ages and upbringings. I liked that, again, for the most part. First person isn’t my first choice of narrative though. However, I did feel more of a connection to Ryan, who is Cason’s best friend and Emery’s son, than to the two main characters!
It’s hot and steamy in places, and sweet and funny and emotional in others. Everything comes across nicely, and is well written.
It just . . didn’t float my boat! As to why? I can’t pinpoint that fact and you all know how much that stresses me so, not being about to voice my book feelings!
Its GOOD, don’t get me wrong, because it kept me engaged enough to finish, and trust me when I say, I would’ve dumped it if it hadn’t. Just not one for me, I’m afraid.
3 good, but not brilliant, stars.

Cason is unsure of his sexuality and doesn’t have anyone he can talk to even though he has a bestfriend Ryan (who isn’t shown in a good light and is kind of a douche). Emery lives a solidary and loney life with casual hook ups after his divorce and his coming out. Cason ends up talking with Emery and starts to having feelings for his bestfriends dad, Emery is also feeling attracted to his sons friend.
This is an amazing story! These two are so sweet I just love them. I definitely recommend this book!
Cason and Emery
Cason has a rough youth, no father and an addictive mother with nasty boyfriends. He spent a lot of time with Ryan.
At eighteen he isn’t sure but guesses he’s gay. Girls never did it for him and he has a crush for his best friend’s father. He’s afraid to tell Ryan, he knows he won’t take it well, the gay thing.
To get some experience at last he goes through some apps.
Emery, at thirty-seven, is a bit depressed and down. His son hates him, he has a too busy job as an attorney. Worst of all he’s very attracted to his son’s best friend.
A notification gets his attention, a young guy wants to hook up. Oh well, maybe he can get over Cason this way.
A fling just for the summer, no strings, no commitment that’s the plan.
So far it seems like a good concept but holds your seatbelts because it’s the beginning of something hot, complicated journey.
Because it isn’t as simple as it looks at first sight.
There are homophobic friends, secrets and not coming out.
This was a lovely story, Cason and Emery both engaging characters. The sexiness was nice and steamy. Both men were endearing and lovable.
I loved Jay, Emery’s cocky friend with benefits. I didn’t like Ryan later on it got a little better but still.
The writing style was good and enjoyable.
A steady story, with true love and a satisfying end.
I absolutely loved His Temptation. I loved the great connection between Cason and Emery. I liked the awkwardness that you knew had to happen as well as everyone getting over themselves. It was a cute coming of age for Cason as well. I think the two men were very compatible. The story was sweet, the sex hot and the friendship was definitely there. I love that it’s part of a series and I can’t wait for the next book. I definitely recommend this book.
May December romance. A mature man falling for his son’s best friend. There are so many aspects about Cason and Emery that makes their romance so difficult. Ryan has a big impact on their relationship because he is so confused and can’t manage the changes in his family dynamics. But Cason is a determined young man, and Emery can’t help but give in to his wants. That’s what I like to see in a romance, overcoming obstacles and fighting for what they want and deserve. Lovely story. I will wait for Jay’s, hoping he is next in the series.
Cason just graduated from high school. Having come from a broken family, his father leaving him and his mom when he was still a child and with an addict mother who has a string of boyfriends who are also “losers,” you’d think he would have given up long ago, but he is a fighter and he wants to rise up and become successful.
Emery recently was outed to his son unintentionally. His son now hates him. He has lived a life of denial but ever since having the divorce, he feels more free and has started hooking up. He hopes that one day soon, his son will come to accept who he truly is.
The attraction between these two lovely humans can’t be denied. When they were going through the bad times, I ached for them. But the real feelings they have for each other eventually will win out. Love them!
Steamy and very close to taboo M/M love story…Will secrets ruin everything? LOVED it.
Love two buff males falling in love especially if one is new to the whole experience! Add in that one is considerably older than the other. Wowza…Some really great moments: professing love, accepting the situation, “feeling” the love, telling off the moochers, finding a new friend and especially, getting back what you lost. It was well-written, so passionate and compassionate. I have no problem with twinks but I like my M/M between two well-built masculine men.
Cason is 18yo, getting ready to graduate from HS, football player and still a virgin even though there are any number of girls willing to help him with that. He’s confused about his sexuality and his BFF Ryan is sending him homophobic messages. Ryan’s father Emery has divorced his wife of nearly 16 years and come out as gay. Ryan is such an a** about it too. I like how Ms. Osborn has shown the juxtaposition of situations in that he can’t accept his father being gay while Ryan can sleep around and cheat on multiple girls, but somehow he views that as OK. I think the author has written some detestable albeit redeemable characters.
Emery is 37yo, a defense attorney and gay. Finally, after so many years he does not need to hide but he still feels badly about the way in which Ryan found out. Whenever Cason comes to visit with Ryan, Emery gets nervous feelings and he can’t explain it. And, Cason on these visits can’t help but feel odd too. What could it mean? Wow! Their meet-cute is just what the book needed. There are funny parts, sad parts and very many steamy parts. When things go bad, they go really bad…get your tissues ready. I truly enjoyed this book. Can’t wait for Jay’s book.
I volunteered to review an ARC of this book through Gay Romance Reviews and it comes highly recommended if you like M/M romance with explicit scenes.
Emery and Cason’s story was an emotional one with lots of issues. One issue is the age difference between him and Emory and another issue is Emery is his best friend’s dad. These two had a rocky ride but in the end love won out. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
I love age gap stories. Especially since the older men are more my age. It’s fantastic to read about older men and so sexy to read about them finding love again, hotter when the men are alot younger!
The amazing Author Jaclyn never fails to amaze me through all her story telling and this story was absolutely fantastic.
What is the biggest taboo between friends, or I should say maybe the second lol…dating ones parent!
Cason doesn’t really have anyone in his corner but his best friend Ryan. Who has been more than just a bff but his family. Not knowing the truth about what caused the divorce between Ryan’s parents all he knows is that his friend holds ill feelings towards his dad.
Cason is lost and unsure of his sexuality that is till he becomes a little closer to Emery. He has finally found that one person who maybe able to be there and understand what he is dealing with. However, the feelings that stir within him about his bff’s father just isn’t a good idea.
But the passion and desire is too much for either of them to deny, what started out as something casual has now morphed into something so much more and the consequences of anyone finding out could be devastating to everyone they both hold dear.
This is an amazing story of two extremely passionate men that love deeply regardless of the obstacles that they face!!
