Well-Done Medical Romance
This is the first book I’ve read by Lynne Marshall. As a registered nurse myself, I am often disappointed how life in the hospital for those who work there is depicted in fiction. Usually, I find so many errors… so much so I find it distracting as I often start just looking for the next gaffe rather than enjoy the story and characters. Luckily, that didn’t happen here! The author has actually been a nurse, so the medical aspects–from what it is like interacting with your co-workers to hospital staffing/corporate issues to disease treatment–rang true. The way she wove in the medical aspects (both at the hospital and with the hero after his diagnosis) with the romance was very well done, too. For those in the medical field, that aspect didn’t feel like “too much”; it was artfully done. While this is my first book by this author, it won’t be my last.
I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.
The doctor becomes the patient in this charming medical romance. Mallory has had a crush on Dr. Prescott for some time, but apart from the fact that they are work colleagues until recently, he was also married. However, when an unexpected illness attacks the good doctor, his private nursing care coincides with Mallory’s need to raise extra funds to pay for her daughter’s college tuition. Fining J.T. in a worse state than she envisioned, Mallory determines to find out as much as she can about his condition and takes an assertive approach to discover ways to help him recover. J.T. finds himself looking forward to Mallory’s weekend shifts, especially as her approach helps him to fight for his recovery. This romance is well written, entertaining, and witty. It also gives some background to Guillain-Barré syndrome. I loved the main characters in this novel, especially as J.T. regains his humanity. Mallory’s compassion and insights also draw the reader. Although there are some hiccoughs in their relationship, combined with manipulation and interference from other parties, this story is a standalone and comes to a happy conclusion.
This was a quick, fun read. Even though it is the second book in the series it can be read as a stand alone. The characters were engaging and the situation is more believable than some books I have read. I would recommend this book. I received this book for free from eBook Discovery. I voluntarily review this book. This is my honest review.
This was a wonderful read! The characters of JT and Mallory were so realistic. The story of JT’s GBS and Mallory’s care of him were so interesting. A great second book in this series. I received this book for free from eBook Discovery. I voluntarily post this review. This is my honest review.

MY Review
Wow what a wonderful medical romance series by Lynne Marshall. Even though His Special Angel is the second book in the Mercy, Inc Series it can be read on its own .
This is the first medical romance book i have ever read and I really enjoyed the plot as well as the pacing of this story. The story is well written and easy to follow. I was able to easily picture the events as they happened.
I also liked the fact that we get to really see the feelings of J.T who is a divorced dad, Doctor and medical director of the hospital as well as Mallory a single mom and nurse. Both of them had past relationships that caused them to react the way they did.
From the moment J.T hit the floor i was glued to the story flipping the pages on my kindle as fast as i could. It had me holding my breath several times as well as laughing . I love how the author writes about different medical/ health issues. Wish more did this.
I highly recommend it and I am soooo looking forward to reading another book by this author and I can’t wait for the next book in the series.
His Special Angel is the second book in Lynne Marshall’s Mercy, Inc. series.
Mallory Glenn, a single parent, has been a nurse for many years. She admired Dr. JT Prescott when he practiced alongside her at Mercy Hospital. JT is a divorced father with a cantankerous ex who does her best to keep their son from him. Now, that he has risen through the ranks and is the medical director, he is a different man. The once approachable doctor is short fused and doesn’t seem to care much for the nursing staff other than meeting his quotas.
After facing a nursing shortage, Mallory schedules a meeting with him to discuss the nursing issues. Their meeting is held minutes before he is scheduled to take a long vacation to Kenya. After their meeting, she leaves his office only to hear a loud noise from within. She discovers him collapsed on the floor. She calls for help only his condition becomes grave.
An extremely ill JT returns to his home and his care is overseen by a nursing staff. Mallory who is looking for additional money to send her daughter to college volunteers to be his weekend nurse. The once strong confident doctor is a shadow of himself, fighting to carry on in his dark bedroom.
A diligent Mallory jumps right in doing her best to brighten the room and his surroundings. Mallory, in fact, is JT’s special angel. She researches his case and discovers alternative treatments that he should have undertaken in the hospital. Will he realize how much Mallory cares for him? Will JT recover and discover the truth behind his illness?
His Special Angel was a heartwarming read that I couldn’t put down. Ms. Marshall is one of my favorite Medical authors and I absolutely loved this book. This is a standalone read that I highly recommend reading along with the other books in the series.
His Special Angel (Mercy, Inc. #2) by Lynne Marshall
This story starts out with a table of contents then the story.
Mallory has raised her daughter and she’s getting ready to attend the college of her choice, on the east coast which is very expensive.
Mallory had been working longer shifts, putting money away but nothing near what she needs even with the scholarships her daughter had won.
She’s heading to meet with the head doctor who used to do rounds and was such fun but now he’s not so fun with all the paperwork he has to do and others have noticed the change.
… She gets him to ER where they run tests on him and she heads back to work.
After his surgery she is given the chance to take care of him on weekends for extra money.
He had written up a special document that prohibits the use after a time and to allow him to die. She wills him to live and we then learn more about him, his homelife, his ex wife and his upcoming travel.
She listens and is able to learn more about his sudden illness and with his help they discover what it could be and JT, the patient questions his doctor about it.
So much comes into play, so unpredictable and he has a fight on his hands. More that just one as he alienates his special nurse.
Great story and as in the first book I learned about some many surgical procedures that really make this a great read. I see everything done on medical dramas on TV and they had not made sense to me.
Loved it for so many reasons: learned new words, love hearing about caring people, love careers where one uses their hands and brains, family life and just caring.
Love the unexpected ending with the help of her daughter, so cool! Other works by the author are highlighted at the end.
About the author is listed at the end.
Received this review copy from the author and this is my honest opinion.
It was an interesting but predictable romance novel. The characters are likable but I didn’t fall in love with them. They get to know each other, overcome obstacles, and then have a resolution that gives us the happily-ever-after we’re waiting at the end. It feels like a fairy tale. To good to be true… I receive this book for free from eBook Discovery. I voluntarily review this book. This is my honest review.
This book was ok. I’m not sure when it was written as it made mention of a pager and thigh length briefs as opposed to a cell and boxer briefs.
I started out liking Mallory until she turned into an insecure, overly emotional, fragile female. She started out as a strong, confident, intelligent nurse willing to use all of her strength and professional knowledge to help JT recover. After becoming involved with him, she turned into a completely different person. I lost all respect for her after she rushed to JT’s house. I also didn’t understand why she didn’t immediately tell him what she had seen. I also didn’t understand how she thought she was being bought.
JT for his part, could have picked up a phone and explained the situation to her instead of leaving her hanging. He could have even sent her a message through Jake letting her know why he was doing what he was doing. On top of all of that, I was very surprised he didn’t contact her right away after the meeting in his attorney’s office.
This was a romance that involved kissing, and was not sexually descriptive. If you are looking for something steamy, this is not the book for you. I felt the connection between JT and Mallory more when she was caring for him than I did after that.
As medical romances go, this one was a little too descriptive for me. I can only assume it was accurate in detail, but it gave me more information than I ever wanted to know, especially considering the world’s current health crisis. That is solely a personal opinion.
I would say read this book and judge for yourself. The romance kind of fell off after a point. I thought there would be some repercussions for the doctor that handled JT’s care, but as usual, the only person to be judged was the woman in this book. I was disappointed by a couple of things, but, that’s life.

This is an enjoyable romance with a roller coaster of emotions between Mallory and J.T. There are several elements of conflict which can hold your attention, and the love interest is appealing if a bit rocky. It’s a fairly entertaining tale that you may find worth reading.
