My endeavors to find the right man had afforded me countless hookups, infidelity, and a handful of one-night-stands.Then, Marc Watson stepped into my life. He was handsome, and not the kind that could be satisfied by simply taking a second look. Hell, men like him graced the covers of magazines and were the subject of every woman’s dreams. He was also intellectual and kind. The. Complete. Package. Complete. Package.
But. He had this ridiculous rule.
To get a shot at him, I had to agree to be in a no sex relationship for thirty days. Making it thirty minutes without having sex with him would be a stretch. Thirty days would be impossible.
It was the opposite of everything I had done in the past, but he assured me if I could comply, the reward would be mind-blowing.
I’d never been one to back down from a challenge, so I took the deal.
Little did I know that doing so would change my life forever.
”HIS RULES” is a stand-alone romance with no cheating, no sex outside the relationship, and comes with a HEA and no cliff hanger. This is NOT a Dom/sub novel, nor does the relationship depicted contain BMSD elements. Slightly different from Scott, I really enjoyed it. The build up is more about the non sex than the hot and filthy, more old school romance where talking and getting to know a person comes way before any sexual conquests. It was nice, making you think about what’s important in a long term relationship, finding out about a couples compatibility and the general groundwork that makes up for long lasting love and friendship. The characters were really great and I loved that Marc actually ties into the MC stories I had read previously and it cleared up a few odds and ends with those. The suspense was interesting, Marc had very clear ideas and priorities of what his perfect partner would be and the things in common he wanted them to have. I found it to be compulsive reading getting lost in the story and wished I didn’t have to interrupt it for daily life, I wanted to just snuggle down and let it sink in. Brilliant read.
I have been waiting for Detective Marc Watson’s book since he first appeared in Scott Hildreth’s FFMC series, and, I have to say, that this Marc’s story was worth the wait!
Marc Watson, is detective in the Gang Unit and former Navy Seal. He is thoughtful, courageous, loyal and protective about those he cares about. He also has some quirks in his personal life . . . especially when starting a new relationship. He feels he may have found the one in Taryn, however and decides to explain his relationship rules to her to see if she wants to play.
Taryn Fisher is a woman who fled her hometown after tragedy struck and landed in California. She’s been burned by relationships before, and knows now that she is in her 30s, most guys are looking for an easy hook-up. She has just about given up on Mr. Wright when Marc Watson walks into her life and asks her to play by his rules.
The relationship rule Marc lives by . . . no sex for thirty days . . . as he wants a real relationship based on more than just physical attraction. While Taryn isn’t sure she can make it 30 minutes, she agrees to Marc’s rule and their attempt at courtship begins.
The thirty days rule ends up being a very eye-opening experience for Taryn, who begins realizing there is much more to a true relationship than just physical attraction. Will Marc agree, however, or walk away when their thirty days s up?
I absolutely loved Marc Watson in this book. This far, we have seen him interacting with the FFMC, but also giving them a heads up when possible . . .basically using their “skills” in their territory to keep more dangerous gangs and drugs under control. His Rules gives readers a look into Marc’s personal life and belief system . . . and I have to say, that even with his quirks, this man is a fierce protector and enforcer of what he believes is right and just. I especially loved his daily interactions with the young Charlee as they discussed literature and life in general . . . these daily interactions were my favorite part of the book!
Taryn is a strong, sassy and intelligent woman who knows what she wants and is willing to do what she needs to in order to get it. However, she is also willing to grow and compromise and try new things, which I loved about her. She tells it like it is, but is also caring and compassionate. I found her and Marc to be perfect pieces of a puzzle that really fit well together!
While the focus of this book is Marc and Taryn, we do get to visit with Nick Navarro and the rest of the FFMC which not only adds a good bit of excitement, but really gives amazing insight into both Marc and Nick and how they view the world, even if they are on opposite sides of the law.
Scott knocked it out of the park with this book. I couldn’t put it down and found my new favorite Scott Hildreth character. 5 stars and a huge thank you to Scott for making Marc Watson a truly unforgettable character!
Marc Watson is NOT your typical book boyfriend. He is a unique man to say the least. And when he and Taryn first met, I bust up laughing. Taryn has quite the imagination when drinking.
But when the relationship starts under Marc’s 30 day get-to-know-each-other-but-no-sex rule, things get interesting. My favorite little bit has to be Taryn’s very unique use of perfume one evening. Things like that, have to make me wonder where they come up with that.
His Rules is not truly a part of the FFMC series, but Detective Marc Watson does “appear” in several books. Once again, Mr. Hildreth did not disappoint. His Rules is not your typical romance, but for myself, it was a very welcome change of pace.
Now onto Thick, the final book of the FFMC. I’m going to be sad to see these guys go.
