A full-length STANDALONE romantic comedy from USA TODAY bestselling author R.S. Grey.I’ve spent eight years wishing I’d fall out of love with Derek Knightley. Blowing out birthday candles, chasing after shooting stars, making it rain spare change into mall fountains—every time it’s the same wish: forget about Derek. But the day he walks back into my life, I realize there are two things time has … there are two things time has yet to soften: my feelings for him and his chiseled jawline.
It’s infuriating that my heart still races when he walks into a room. I refuse to fall prey to old unrequited love, so I decide the less I’m around him, the better. Avoidance is key.
Unfortunately, Derek isn’t going to make it easy. As a teenager, I would have crawled on my hands and knees to attract his attention. Now I can’t seem to escape it.
I’m not sure why he’s bothering. He’s not just out of my league—he’s out of my tax bracket. As the sole heir to the Knightley Company, he’s as close to American royalty as you can get. As for me, I’m just a part-time princess at Knightley’s flagship magical theme park.
I spend my days playing make-believe, but Derek has no use for fairytales. His unwavering confidence makes it clear he thinks I’ll surrender in the end.
He’s just biding his time.
Making me sweat.
His Royal Highness always gets what he wants.
And he wants me.

I ADORED this book! It is UNIQUE, it is CREATIVE, it is MAGICAL, it is EVERYTHING!
R.S. Grey is my go to author for sweet, swoony and funny! His Royal Highness was all of that and more. I could not put it down once I started it. The book is set in Georgia, inside Fairytale Kingdom, a Fairytale Theme Park owned by the Knightley family. Whitney plays the part of Princess Elena and Derek is the grandson of the founder of the company. The setting captivated and consumed me so much I felt like I was right there in this magical setting with them.
Whitney
She is adorable, sweet and quirky. Most of her life, she hasnt had a lot of support from her own family and her relationship with Knightleys is very special. Despite this she has grown up into a beautiful, confident young woman. Her relationship with Derek’s grandfather, Cal was sweet. I loved the support he offered her. He was the perfect mentor.
Derek
I loved him so much. You would expect with the family he has grown up in to have somewhat of a privledged attitude but not at all! He has worked hard and earned his spot in the family business. He was encouring, and supportive to Whitney and extremely charming, and attractive. The perfect prince!
I loved the banter between these two. So many steamy, swoony moments that I just couldnt get enough of. I also loved the slow burn, the chemistry and emotion. This was all around a PERFECT read. Loved every single moment right to the end. R.S. Grey’s epilogues are the BEST! 5++ stars!
Thank you R.S. Grey for sending me an advanced reader copy in exchange of an honest review.
I read this book quickly in one sitting that’s how easy to read and entertaining R.S Greys books are. I have read all her books and will continue to read everything she puts to paper/e-paper? . This story centers around Whitney our troubled heroine who has had a pretty crummy childhood (in typical fairy tale fashion) who is swept off her feet figuratively by Derek our hero at a young age, and then again literally years later when they reconnect. This book had it all; angst, humor, fairy tale ending, steamy scenes and a really nice heartfelt message centering around recognizing the fact that your family doesn’t just include blood relatives. Great read, def recommend.
ARC REVIEW
Angst. The Angst in this book is otherworldly and worthy of an award!
I will never ever ever get tired of saying how much I love every book this author has written, how every time I pick one of her new releases up, I fall more and more in love with her writing, her ideas and everything about her books. How every book tops the previous and how I can’t ever get enough. Well, you will have to suffer through another review where I talk about these things. It’s not my fault she is so talented!
‘His Royal Highness’ by the incredibly talented and unbelievably creative RS Grey. I swear I have never come across an author with as many books as she has that are all miles apart from each other when it comes to first encounters, jobs, relationships, and backgrounds.
RS Grey is the queen of rom-coms if you ask me, and not only are her book crazy funny, but they are also real, and magical, comical, full of passion and tons of angst!
This book is set in two different timelines that will define the characters’ relationships, you will see them grow, change and open their wings to fly but also mature and learn from their past. It is set to take place inside of a theme park that will succeed and create a mystical and magical world around you.
Whitney is our heroine, during her journey we see her grow from a shy and timid just-started-college girl and become a successful, confident and kind woman. She plays the role of Princess Elena in the castle inside the theme park, she is sweet, kind, understanding, ready to sacrifice sacred sleep hours in order to deal with teenage girls in need of someone to talk to and not complain about it.
She is also smart and with a good head on her shoulders, she loves her job and can’t think of a better way to spend her days, she has had a difficult childhood that has often left her feeling unworthy and no matter how much of a home the park is, it will take a lot of work to get over those feelings. And those will not be the only feelings she wants to get rid of, those little butterflies in her stomach she feels when a certain someone is in the same room would be nice gone, same goes for the pitty patter her heart likes to do or the electric feeling she feels whenever he’s near.
It’d be nice to have them disappear, too bad it doesn’t turn out to be that simple.
Derek is Prince Charming, or should I say His Royal Highness, through and through, if you think of him as a perfect gentleman with a caveman streak and the tendency to have a perpetual scowl carved on his face. He is the heir to the whole empire that is the theme park, and even though he grew up around and inside the park knowing full well one day it’d be his, the power and knowledge didn’t go up to his head. On the contrary, they made him more humble and caring, enough to accept to work as an In Character in order to prove that.
Working alongside Whitney turns out to be a harder battle than he thought, what with all the angst and banter, all the jokes and dabs, the hidden pent-up attraction and past that haunts them both.
This couple is so unique that their interaction becomes truly something otherworldly and I don’t say this lightly. Their interactions are hilarious and passionate, angst-filled words thrown between them, heated glares from across the room, moody and broody body language that say more than any word ever could. I am telling you this is something you Need to read.
This story is light and funny, with an undertone of realness to create a perfect mix that is this book.
With every look, you’ll feel how erratically their hearts are beating, with every jab you will learn how difficult it is to keep feelings hidden, with every touch you will fall more and more in love and with every laugh you will recognize how beautifully written this book was.
I’m not asking you to read this book. I am asking you to jump on this rollercoaster, to take on this crazy journey, to let a world come alive before your eyes and to believe in the power books have that most people don’t even realize.
This is a must-read, no matter what you are looking for. Easy-to-read, a page-turner that will make your evening better and leave you smiling even when you don’t feel like it.
His Royal Highness has been one of my most anticipated reads since R.S Grey announced it. I adore her rom coms, especially when they involve them park elements that are similar to Disney!
Whitney plays the role of Princess Elena at a theme park owned by her ex crush Derek Knightly’s family. While she hasn’t seen Derek in 8 years, the few months they spent together during a mentorship left a lasting impact on her heart. So its extremely shocking for her when Derek not only waltz back into the park but also as her new His Royal Highness, the prince to her Princess Elena.
Needless to say things definitely do not go over smooth. Whitney is holding a grudge for Derek up and leaving to London 8 years ago and saying goodbye through an email. Derek is obviously confused because he never knew the extent of Whitney’s feelings for him. It’s safe to say he’s pretty much blindsided by her attitude although it does do magical things for him *wink wink*.
After their reconnection the book follows Whitney as the parks princess and adjusting to Derek being back in her life. They bounce around as enemies to friends to almost enemies again. Derek is enjoying his new role as Whitney’s prince, much to her pretend dismay. She mostly hates the fact that she’s still into him after all this time. Except now might be the opportune time for them to be something more fairytale like…
Ok so I love a book with banter, and R.S Grey also puts just the right amount in. Although I love it, this book felt overwhelmed by it. I felt like Whitney’s past grudge and slight immaturity took a lot of time away from hers and Derek’s relationship. I mean it was childish to blame Derek for leaving over feelings Whitney had when they met, mostly because of their age gap at the time it was probably inappropriate for him to reciprocate them especially as her mentor. So I felt it was unfair for her to lash out at him the way she initially did. Although I could just be greedy for more of them, I wish we got to spend more time with them as a couple than as frenemies. Even so It helped build up that sexual tension though *fans self*.
The book was just as you would expect from the rom com queen; funny with lots of sexual tension and of course a heroine we can all relate to in some way. It’s what always draws me back into her books. I know Im going to not only devour it but have a good ass time reading it too!
