Mary Ross has just become the new local school teacher and it’s the first time she’s felt truly happy ever since her parents’ loss. Her enthusiasm won’t last for long though as her effort to modernize the town newspaper will fail miserably. Being a rebellious spirit, she wants to give voice to women, going against the mayor’s will. Her visit to the local newspaper editor will prove to be the … beginning of a roller coaster of feelings. Will she regret interfering with the town’s authority or will this clash result in a dream coming true?
Philip Jenkins has been running his printing press for years. It’s a job he loves but like everything in his world, it comes with a problem; in this case, it’s the mayor, who controls the whole town. Philip is having a hard time making the right decisions as he can’t risk losing everything. When Mary enters his life, a new, completely different perspective opens before his eyes. Will he collapse under the mayor’s pressure, disappointing Mary in the worst way possible?
Mary and Philip will go through many ups and downs. Making this relationship work is much more difficult than they could ever predict, especially due to the challenges lying ahead. Will they put their strong opinions aside and cooperate for the greater good? Could love thrive when threatening troubles wait around the corner to destroy what has been built with hard work?

This is a well written western romance from back in the day when women weren’t regarded as equal and had no rights. The author does a great job building the story and showing the love and determination between Philip and Mary. It’s an interesting story, moves fluidly and I enjoyed reading.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC f this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.
Sometimes you have to light a fire
Miss Mary Ross, the town’s school teacher, wants a word with newspaperman Philip Jenkins. The town paper has nothing in it for women to read. It does not address women’s issues or news. Mss Ross is definitely in support of the women’s rights issues, which are hitting the news back East.

Although Mr. Jenkins would like to accommodate Miss Ross’s request, he does not feel that he can. Mayor Hanover has the town of Glenwood under his thumb. The mayor controls the bank, the council, the town’s taxes and fines, the sheriff, the school, and the content of the newspaper.
What will this unlikely couple decide to do in the coming days? Especially when the mayor cuts the school’s budget and threatens to put the newspaperman out of business.
I found the beginning of this story to be a little slower than Grace Clemens’ previous book, but it soon grabs your attention. The characters are interesting and the story line lets you see that some things haven’t changed over the years. It is fun to watch the relationship between Mary and Phillip slowly develop. I enjoyed this book.
Beautiful story of love and redemption. Sometimes we have to go through trials to appreciate the good times. Phillip runs a newspaper, but because of back taxes he’s under the thumb of a tyrant mayor. He doesn’t have say in what gets printed. Mary teaches school, but wants freedoms for women, she also wants to write for the newspaper. In the days when women don’t have many rights, can she succeed? Can Phillip print stories that are interesting? Can they find true love? Find out in this moving story! Happy Reading!
