Being a first book in a series, I really don’t expect too much, but I did expect this book to have more energy or emotion. It was OK. It seemed to have a slow start.
Kim and Bruce were in their mid to late 30’s. She seemed the same to me as she did at 17. Kim came across as needy, insecure, and slightly desperate. I thought it was interesting that Bruce was always so happy to see Kim, yet holding on to some anger.
At 36 years old, I expected her to confront her parents with more passion then she showed. I definitely kept feeling like her behavior did not fit her age. I also did not understand why it took so long for the conversation to happen between Bruce and Kim.
I got the sense that Bruce was more exasperated with Kim than in love with her. Was he trying to make a connection because he was honorable and made a promise, or did he really love her and was over all of the miscommunication? Not really sure.
I didn’t pick up much chemistry between them. Even with one of the final scenes I picked up nothing. No romance, no sexual tension, nothing. I am not sure if the end of this book was supposed to be an HEA, or an HFN.
A very short second chance romance. I listened to the audiobook and the narration was good. It was a female narrator who made me forget that the part of Bruce was not being read by a male. The narration also made Kim stand out as a needy, insecure woman. Not sure if that is how she was meant to be portrayed or not.
Bruce and Kim Were teenage sweethearts and he even promised that he would marry her but everything changed when he left for college. Kim found herself married to someone else but it ended in divorce. Now its years later and they are reconnected and the chemistry is still there. Will they rekindle their relationship and make it to a happily ever after? I voluntarily agreed to receive an ARC of this book for an honest review
His Promise is the first in the series and is a well written, short, second chance romance.
A great story with well-developed characters.
An enjoyable read!
I received a free copy of this book from the author and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Kim and Bruce were lovers when she was seventeen. Then Bruce went away to medical school promising that he would always be with her. His phone calls were sporadic but he left messages with her parents for her. She didn’t phone him back at all and then he finds out that she is married. Years later they meet again in their small home town. Memories. Lies. Heartbreak. Broken promises. Second chances. This was a wonderful story.
Second Chances
Second chances at first love. He went to medical school & promised to come back. She was led to believe he wasn’t coming back by her parents and married someone else. It didn’t last. Now he is back
