First let me state, I received an Advance Reader Copy, (ARC), but this in no way influences my review. I always leave an honest review
Excellent story. I’m not much into witches, but because of this read, I know I’ll be reading more. Kendra & Jared went through a lot of turmoil because of a curse made by an evil witch. This has so much going on with it. Ghosts, witches (good & bad), a curse, black magic, and even some history thrown in. I recommend this read 5 Thumbs up
Very well written and intriguing book, if you enjoy witches, ghosts, steamy scenes and New Orleans. I enjoyed it from cover to cover and read it in one sitting.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Jared Dupre is at his bachelor’s party at a strip club when he sees a ghost beckoning him outside. No need to worry, this is commonplace for a witch like Jared. He follows her only to find out his brother’s been kidnapped by a rival witch. In order to protect Kendra, the woman he loves and is about to marry, he breaks off his engagement. He fights his foe and returns to New Orleans, thinking his beloved is safe from harm. Instead, she has fallen under the spell of his arch rival and is in more danger. Can he save her using the power of his ancestor’s spirit or will he lose Kendra forever to the dark magic?
I’m a huge fan of witchy paranormal romances and this one packs quite a punch. Fast-moving with a despicable villain who’s bent on enacting revenge on the whole Dupre family, His Magic Touch gripped me from the first page. I found Jared a wonderful character to root for. Kendra, on the other hand, didn’t appeal to me. The way she falls into the arms of the villain without much resistance did grate on my nerves.
What made this an incredible book was the way Grahl infused New Orleans into the storyline. So visual was the writing, I could smell the beignets and coffee, hear the jazz float down the streets and feel the pulse that is New Orleans.
If you’re looking for a compelling paranormal romance with plenty of action, magic, romance and a villain you’ll love to hate, pick up His Magic Touch today.
My Rating: 4.5 stars
I felt there was good balance between the two lead characters point of view with just enough of the villain’s to keep things going. The New Orleans setting really came alive but I think that a little more attention could have been given to the Black Island settings. The characters were all really great. I felt they were well-developed and had excellent dialogue. There were a couple of sections I felt a little rushed as well as a few places I felt were drawn out unnecessarily. To be honest, I felt that the villain had the fewest places that fell flat. Debby Grahl writes one of the absolute best bad guys I’ve read.
The ghosts were treated with the same attention as the living, which I really enjoyed. The book did address domestic violence so beware if that’s a trigger for you. It was one scene that didn’t take up a huge portion of the book but I do want to make sure to make note of it because it was written very well.
Thank you to Debby Grahl, NetGalley, and The Wild Rose Press for giving me the chance to read this story and share my honest thoughts and opinions with others.
RATING: 3.5 rounded up to 4 for posting
HIS MAGIC TOUCH by Debby Grahl is a contemporary paranormal romance featuring witches and ghosts set in NOLA. Ms. Grahl’s world-building effortlessly pulls you into the conflict between good and evil and the generational curse which is the suspense element of the story. The lore and setting of New Orleans adds to the story’s impact.
Jared Dupre is a powerful witch. He met his soulmate, Kendra O’Connel several years ago at a coven meeting.
Now, on the eve of their wedding, Jared discovers his brother has been kidnapped by Adam Montief, a powerful dark witch. If Jared does not follow, Adam has sworn to kill his brother and threatens to kill Kendra as well. Jared refuses to tell Kendra where he is so that she remains safe in New Orleans. Adam believes he is The Chosen One and has to kill Jared to settle a centuries old family vendetta.
A swordfight between the two sends Adam wounded and over the side of a cliff and leaves Jared severely wounded. As Jared heals in Connecticut, Kendra believes he has left her for another woman.
When Jared returns to New Orleans, he finds that Kendra does not want to hear the truth of what happened and Adam is alive and dating Kendra. Jared must now find a way to protect and win back Kendra as he investigates the reason for the vendetta between the Montief’s and the Dupre’s which will only end with the death of one of heirs.
I absolutely loved the setting and world-building in this book. The witches and ghosts of NOLA interacting with the human population was believable and interesting. The twisting suspense plot in the past and present kept me turning the pages. I did have a problem with the romance subplot. Kendra’s reactions on her own and with her two best friends, I felt were very immature. I dislike when a lack of communication or misunderstandings are the main reasons for a couple not being together for a large portion of the book especially when they are supposedly soulmates.
I really enjoyed the suspense and world-building in this book, but not the romance. I would read more books in this witchy world hoping for a more mature relationship in the next book.
His Magic Touch is a really good read mixing white and black magic, witches and ghosts, into the spicy flavor of a New Orleans gumbo. Jared Dupre abandons his love, Kendra, on the eve of their wedding under threat of her death and chases an unknown enemy to rescue his brother. Besides these two magical characters, the secondary characters are colorful and memorable. Perhaps they’ll show up in future books. But, this story will keep you reading to find out what the Dupre family secret is that has put this war of magic into motion. I’m not giving anything away. You’ll want to read it yourself.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. This is the first book by this Author that I have read, but it will not be the last one. A well-written story that kept me on the edge of my seat I could not put it down.

Debby Grahl spins an intriguing web of mystery, adventure and love in her novel, His Magic Touch.
Jared Dupre is one tough character risking his upcoming marriage with his soon-to-be bride, Kendra, to save his brother Philippe from ruthless Adam Montief. Recuperating for five weeks from a battle that nearly kills Jared, he returns, realizing Kendra has moved onto a new love, Thaddeus. Jared knows instantly that Thaddeus is Adam (who Jared thought he had killed during his last fight). But Kendra and her tight girlfriends refuse to believe Jared is capable of being anything but a loser.
I enjoyed the fast action in the story and the mystery of Angelique’s past. Jared leads the story as a fearless, strong hero and rational thinker. Discovering the jeweled sword hidden from Angelique’s past, he takes on Adam. Kendra and her girlfriends bring humor to the story with their childish conversations, angry over Jared jilting Kendra at the altar.
The book captivated me from the beginning with the constant action. The characters were realistic, even in the paranormal world. Dialogue was easy to read and the story was well written, with great descriptions of New Orleans and Black Island. Debby Grahl is one superb romance novelist.
I received an ARC of this book. My review is voluntary and freely given.
