Fox shifter Sadie Harris knows she’s in trouble as soon as she lays eyes on vampire Seamus Gallagher, and not just because he makes her weak in the knees. Years ago, vampires slaughtered her family and left her an orphan. But there are greater dangers than vampires. When Sadie goes into mating heat, she attracts a pack of literal big bad wolves—werewolves—and Seamus intervenes moments from the … moments from the wolves descending on her. Now the only one standing between her and being a toy for all sorts of evil things is the one person who makes her shake for a different reason.
Her grandmother warned her not to trust vampires. They always end up hurting you. But as afraid as Sadie is that Seamus is destined to hurt her, she’s more afraid of a deeper truth: maybe she wants him to.

So… This book actually made me like the first book better. Felt like it rounded out the last groups story. This book is about Seamus, who was painted as something of the bad guy in the last book, but whom we find is not that at all. There are minor inconsistencies between the books (possibly due to the time between them being written), but overall I would suggest reading them in order for the full impact.
Seamus is a vampire turned during the mid 1800’s during the Irish famine and his life didn’t really get easier after that. He has a complicated relationship with his sire that he desperately wants to escape. When he hits a fox while riding his motorcycle through Colorado, he doesn’t realize that his entire life is about to get even more complicated. His character is solidly good but tormented, so he falls in typical vampire territory, but he’s got a love for life that sets him apart.
Sadie is a really sweet character who I liked quite a bit. She’s not the traditionally hard-core female heroine we’re so used to anymore, but I think maybe that’s why I liked it-change of pace, as it were. She still proves herself to be brave, which is obviously a great character trait. Especially for a tiny fox shifter among wolves and vampires.
Their story is fast paced, a bit bloody, a good bit steamy, a little heart wrenching, and a bit twisty. There’s a solid romance, a really sweet side romance story, some absolutely amazing friendships, and a few interesting turns for side characters that make this book an overall fun romp. It’s not long, but definitely worth the ride.
Vixen, by Lauren Smith was amazing to read. I was excited to see that Sadie, the leading lady is a strong character for Seamus. It was a perfect fit. Seamus himself, is such a strong character in this book. First let me say that Lauren Smith’s fantasy paranormal romance writing is the stuff of an awesome writer.
Clearly Lauren can show her readers her talent as a writer, by being able to transition between genres, and still captivate her audience with great writing. I was very surprised that I loved the love story between Seamus and Sadie. The plot that joins these two together is very realistic for this type of fantasy writing. I’m so glad that Sadie didn’t come off as some young adult, whose a naive character. I got my fill of action, drama, steamy bed scenes and romance from this book.
I would have like to read more bedroom scenes, with more details. Maybe we will read more in future books. I was so drawn into the background story of Seamus. Boy that was heart cringing. Inserting the story of him and his sister and their survival, made me enjoy reading the story even more.
I’m excited to read the next release. Again, with Zoey’s character, she comes off as a bit flaky at times. Its as though her character was the youngest one in the group who couldn’t connect with the seriousness of the drama that was happening around them. Ian, I feel that he needs a strong woman, just like Seamus has. I also see Ian as a leader, just like Seamus.
Conner is still up in the air for me. Maybe, in future books Zoey will come into her own. Do not think that I didn’t enjoy this book. I very much recommend this book. I’m excited to read about Dracen’s story and where he came from. From the epilogue, he has some issues that he must deal with. Until next time my fellow readers…read on! I voluntary reviewed this ARC after receiving a free gifted copy.
Sadie Harris is a fox shifter & after vampires left her an orphan, she was raised, by her grandmother Sara, at the edge of a werewolf pack’s territory. She knows the rules about werewolves: Stay clear of the boundaries, never go out after dark during the full moon and take a vacation far, far away when she goes into her shifter mating heat or else she’ll attract literal “big bad wolves.” But when her flight gets cancelled and her mating heat is coming – so are the wolves. Whilst fleeing the wolf pack she’s almost run over by a tall, dark and gorgeous guy on a motorbike, he rescues her but it’s her worst nightmare when she discovers he’s a vampire. Or is it?
Seamus Gallagher might be immortal but his life is full of mortal problems. He has no idea what to do with the feisty red-headed vixen he just rescued from a vicious werewolf pack. He doesn’t have time to babysit a skittish shifter who hates vampires, but when he looks at her, Seamus sees trouble. Sexy, sweet, and irresistible trouble.
OK I’m not a lover of shifter novels but I love the author’s books & have found that no matter what she writes I love it, mainly because of the story but first & foremost because of the characters. I was drawn in from the start & totally engrossed all the way through. I read it in two sittings. I loved Seamus & Sadie so different but destined to be mated for life. It was good to catch up with Ian, Connor & Zoey too. The twist with Sara also added to the story & I’m now looking forward to Dracen’s story
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
