What a hot, sweet, quick read! I love this author, I am always left with a huge smile on my face, a happy heart and wanting to re-read what I just finished!
Love, love, love!!!!
This was another quick and entertaining read. You can’t help but like Catalina and Jonah. They might of had a rough start in the beginning, but once they worked everything out it was game on. The first book in this series had some cute laughable moments, and this one was right up there with it. You can’t help but shake your head laughing at some of the quirky things that comes out of Jonah’s mouth. I just can’t wait to see what’s to come in the next book.
4 Tamale Filled Stars!!!
I sure do love me a Mayra Statham book. They’re always so good! When His Smarty Pants ended Mayra set up the storyline for this book but only gave you half the storyline.
Catalina is the quiet girl. She’s got a beautiful mother and beautiful older sisters so Catalina never tried dressing to impress. She wore baggy clothes, kept her nose in her books and worried about her grades. And, she was always OK with that.
Catalina went to a frat party one night and ended up talking to Jonah, whose whose on the soccer team with her sorority sister Cora’s boyfriend Milo. Afterwards they end up texting back and forth and Catalina enjoys their conversations. For the first time in her life she decides to put herself out there and ask Jonah to go with her to her sororities Halloween party. Before she gets the chance to ask him she overheard him talking to his friends and when he calls her an ugly duckling Catalina’s heartbreaks.
Catalina wants nothing to do with Jonah ever again. But, she gets her friend Allie to help her with a complete 100% makeover. Catalina vows to show Jonah what he’s missing out on. Hopefully, she’s strong enough to stay away from him.
Jonah wasn’t looking for a relationship. At one of his frat parties he strikes up a conversation with Catalina. He’s always thought she was beautiful and didn’t know why she dressed in those baggy clothes. When Catalina made him laugh everything changed.
Jonah enjoyed their texting. Then one day his texts and calls went unanswered. Jonah didn’t know why Catalina was ghosting him, until his friend Milo told him.
Jonah never meant to call Catalina an ugly duckling. He’d never meant it to sound the way it did. Jonah just wanted to keep his friends away from her. He liked Catalina and didn’t want to loose her.
Jonah plans on doing everything to get Catalina back, he doesn’t care what it is. He was shocked to see Catalina after she did her makeover. Jonah will do anything to get Catalina to forgive him bc he never meant to hurt her.
This book was cute. I really liked Catalina and Jonah. He was quirky and said weird things that never came out the way he meant them. Catalina was such a sweet person. They were perfect for each other.
The only thing I didn’t like in this book was a situation that went down at a frat party. Catalina made a comment after Allie was acting too drunk too fast after taking a drink from somebody. Then nothing! I really hope it gets brought up bc that’s a huge bomb to drop then nothing.
Other then that it was such a cute quick read. I’m a fan of both the sorority sisters and the frat brothers. I wish Mayra did a novella series for the frat brothers.
His Hot Tamale is fabulously sweet edition to the Kappa Sweet collection. We are introduced to Catalina in the Smarty Pants book but now we are front and center to her story.
Cat has always stayed out of the lime light. She is happy hiding in plain site with baggy clothes, glasses and keeping to her self. That all changes when Jonah a cute soccer star strikes up a converstion with her and begins to realize how sassy, funny and interesting she is.
Jonah can’t stop thinking about the quiet gal from the party and soon realizes that he wants to spend more time with her but after a misunderstanding is their relationship doomed before the start. Cute, Sweet, Sassy and Sexy ..loved Cat & Jonah and their wonderful cast of characters!!

This was a sweet addition to the Kapa Sweets Series. His Smarty Pants (book 01) ended with Cora comforting/talking to Catalina about what happened to make her so upset. Well this story takes off from there. Catalina is a character we all can relate to. It’s heartbreaking yet understandable to have insecurities about the way you look and act. Well in this story Catalina overheard a conversation that was about her and stuff was said that was not nice. After that Cat decided she wanted a new look and with the help of her sorority sisters she does just that. However there’s always 2 sides to every story and maybe Jonah isn’t as bad as she thinks. He is such a sweet and caring guy who means well but sometimes people just don’t understand what he’s trying to say. Like in this situation but once he explains himself it makes total sense. I really enjoyed watching Jonah grovel and Catalina learning that she’s beautiful just the way she is. Now I will say I’m a little disappointed with the whole Colt situation during the party scene. The scene started off really good and it became intense and than…. NOTHING. Cat said she would explain and she never does. The whole situation was forgotten and never brought up again so we never get a full understanding of what happened. Oh well, maybe she’ll bring it back up in Allie’s book which I am totally looking forward to. I swear Mayra Statham knows how to get a reader hooked with those teasers. Soo exciting !!! Can’t wait to find out about Allie and the mystery truck guy.
Happy Reading
PS- I received an ARC for my honest review and I honestly recommend giving this book/series a chance
When Catalina goes to the frat house of soccer star Jonah to invite him to be her date to her sorority’s Halloween costume party, she overhears his frat brothers trying to get him to uninvolve himself with the less than good-looking girl. She hears him defend her by calling her an ‘ugly duckling!’ She leaves the house without him ever knowing she was there. Now he can’t understand why she hasn’t responded to any of his texts or returned any of his calls. This was a good story of the difficulties of college students working into a steady relationship. This was a well-written novella I think anyone would enjoy. I volunteered this review from an ARC.
So good! I absolutely adored this book! Lots of swoonworthy parts, lots of laugh out loud parts and lots of heartwarming parts. YA goodness!
Mayra Statham has always been one of my automatic one-click authors and she continues to be.
*I was given a free advanced copy of this book by the author in exchange for my honest and voluntary review.*
Such a sweet novella. This was quite a quick read but I did love it all the same. It had everything I love in a story without feeling rushed. The storyline and characters were brilliantly written and so enjoyable to read about. I absolutely loved it.
This was a great sweet ya romance. I loved the sneak peek we got in the first book and was not disappointed. I’m loving this series!
Cat and Jonah’s story was great. Cat is determined to come out of her shell and prove she is no ugly ducking. Jonah knows he has found gold now to make sure she knows how he sees her.
I look forward to the next one!
This was a cute, sweet, short insta-love story. Cat is used to be in the background a plain Jane. One Night at a party she makes soccer star Jonah laugh and they spend the whole night talking. After that night they text and talk constantly. Thinking there is something there Cat gets the courage to ask Jonah out but she over hears him and his buddies talking about her. A misunderstanding had Jonah trying to prove himself to Cat. Loved it and can’t wait to read the next book in the series.
I received an ARC and volunteered to leave a review.
OMgosh, His Hot Tamale is absolutely the cutest novella! I knew it was going to be epic with the teaser at the end of His Smarty Pants and it was even better than I had hoped. Catalina has hidden herself in plain sight. She didn’t worry about her looks after growing up in a household with too many beautiful older sisters. There was no way to compete so she didn’t. Smart and passionate she still faded into the background. Then Jonah noticed her and she thought someone finally saw her. They talked and texted, giving Cat the courage to go and ask him to the Halloween dance. What she overheard, sent her running. Jonah is so totally smitten with Cat but now she is dodging his phone calls and texts. When he discovers why, he knows that if he doesn’t give it his all he will regret it for the rest of his life. Can he convince Cat to give him a chance to win her heart? This story is perfect, Jonah and his weird idioms, Cat and her compassion: they are the perfect couple. Watching them fall in love was awesome and I loved every moment! Brava Mayra Statham!
I absolutely loved this book. His Hot Tamale is book 2 in the Kappa Sweets series and it’s Catalina and Jonah’s book. This book had me hooked from the first page. I’m excited to read more from this series.
Hot tamale was another sweet story by Mayra. Jonah and cats story was hot and very sexy. These characters were adorable. This was a fun read.
