Wonderful characters and a steamy story line
I’m fighting with myself to buy the second book.
Character are good. A little unbelievable yet not so far off that it ruins the story.
Nice light reading.
I read a bit I just couldn’t stay interested. I appreciate the reality of the situation of a purchased woman who doesn’t want to have sex, but at a certain point I stopped reading. I was bored and wanted something more.
I didn’t like it,
This book was awful. It reads like a dare to someone who hasn’t yet dig deep enough to produce something great.
This is the first in a new series, and is a short quick read. Kimani is a journalist who is going undercover as she has enlisted herself in a sex slave auction, where she is bought. I look forward to reading the next book.
2.5 Stars
It’s edgy and somewhat entertaining.
Bought is the first book in Em Brown’s His For A Week series that will be divided up over a course of short fast novels. Each, that I will assume will leave you with a cliff hanger that will lead unto the next book. Please make note; this book does have elements of verbal & physical sexual abuse so be prepared for those scenes, however the hero does help diffuse those situations to a degree.
There was a hidden angst element that has you on guard throughout the book that has you flipping the pages. But for me I am missing that spark, that extra oomph if you will. I felt that Kimani wasn’t all in her head space and to me that was annoying. She is undercover for a reason, to get the job she wants, but towards the end I would think the cliffy would give us more of a dun..dun..dun.. high surprise… and it didn’t. I will continue to read the next book, Ravaged to see if the story line develops into anything more.
Not very well written. It wasn’t something I could sink my teeth into. Meh.
different but good read
Boring,
It was definitely not what I thought it was QB and definitely a little too violent for my liking
Difficult to keep my eyes open!
Ben and Jason were cousin’s and if weren’t for the fact that Jake was Jason’s friend and former college roommate, and Ben’s father wanted Jake’s business connections, Ben would have called it a night. He just really didn’t like the guy with his smug expressions and continually spouting off how much everything cost. Hell, Ben could afford everything Jake kept going on about and more but he never felt the need to brag about it. Now they’re talking about going to the Scarlet auction that only happens once a month at midnight. Ben was given a choice, bring a woman from the auction or come stag. Period.
Kimani Taylor had finally made it though all the preliminaries, almost having backed out several times. Signing all the legal documents in front of four different attorneys, being asked when she lost her virginity, how many sexual partners she’s had, the physical exam and then the interview with the woman asking about her sexual preferences. When she agreed to be engaged in hardcore BDSM she wasn’t worried. Her plan was to get bid on, get to know the “buyer” and the other participants of the Scarlet Auction, pull out before any sex actually happened, then write the scoop that would land her a job with the San Francisco Tribune. Given she was only a year out of journalism school, she needed an edge worthy of being noticed.
What a bizarre set of circumstances. Is your interest piqued about the auction, the week at the cabin, even the research for the story. The buildup in this book will keep your interest piqued. Go in knowing there is a cliff hanger.
Contemporary erotic romance, book 1.
When Kimani’s romate came home, battered and bruised, after having been auctioned off to a billionaire through the Scarlet auction. She thought she could combine revenge with the scoop that would land her a job at the San Francisco Tribune.
Infiltrating the auction as an “item” for sale, she had not counted on being hauled off immediately, to a remote location, without her phone.
Ben Lee was meeting his cousin and some business associates at a cabin. Prefering to go stag, he finds one the other mens lady, rather irresistible.
Kimani was in over her head but how far she will fall, was not revealed. Will be eagerly awaiting the next instalment of this serie.
Found the writing inventive for the genre and the author knows when to push and when to hold back.
Received an ARC in exchange for a review.
If you are expecting anything like Ms. Brown’s historical writings – don’t.
Not just the contemporary setting but the type of the main characters are very different. Missing the gentlemanly ways we meet Jake a truly abusive man and the poor dreamy eyed girl he bought. His other purchase, Kimani, he sells to Ben a true Dom.
Kimani is a journalist who has sold herself to write about the Scarlet Auction for two reasons – her friend did it and was horribly abused and the scoop will get her a plum assignment with a highly rated newspaper.
But her relationship with Ben is making her question herself and has her fighting her attraction to him.
I love seeing the evolution of these characters and their relationships. Looking forward to their continuing story.
