Meet Detective Sergeant Alicia Friend. She’s nice. Too nice to be a police officer, if she’s honest. Now the annoyingly-perky detective finds herself in the grip of a northern British winter, investigating the kidnap-murders of two young women. When a third is taken, Alicia has less than a week to chip away the secrets of a high-society family, and uncover the killer’s objective. But Richard – the … objective.
But Richard – the father of the latest victim – believes the police are not moving quickly enough, so launches a parallel investigation, utilising skills honed in a dark past that is about to catch up with him.
As Richard’s secret actions hinder the police, the clock is ticking until another innocent person dies, and Alicia will be forced into choices that will impact the rest of her life.

Wow. Could not put this book down! So unpredictable. The culprit is not revealed until the very end. It’s a real shocker!
It grabbed me and led me forward, to an ending I didn’t expect.
This is an interesting book with a good ending. Characters are well thought out and enjoyable.
this book will give nightmares. absolutely loved it
This is the first book in the Alicia Friend series, and for the most part, I did enjoy it. Alicia is a totally likeable person, and her affects on those around here is fun to read. The book has so much detail, so many twists and turns, and at times, I found myself a little lost. The investigation went quickly, but yet the book seemed to drag. This was a good read, but I was anxious to get through it
To many characters for me….good but just not my style.
I found that I was more interested in characters other than the primary character. I wished to know more of them.
The plot stretches a bit but the characters are great so it is not too jarring. A good read.
Loved it read it in one sitting
Not my kind of book
An exciting story with lots of interesting characters. Action from start to finish. I liked ‘meeting’ Alicia Friend
This was a new author for me and I am so glad I found it.
An interesting, winding story with a twist I did not see coming.
Do not read the end and spoil the book for yourself.
I will watch this author for more of this kind of writing. Always good to find a good, new author.
Lots of gore with a slight agenda from the author. Also lots of word/phrases used in Britain and not the US that makes some of the story nonsense because of the lack of meaning from those words.
Fast moving and very scary
Violent depictions of sadistic kidnappings and murders. Almost a recipe for torture. I gave it 3 stars because I do not like how specific these torture scenes were. I could picture some sadist taking notes. Requisite female detective who cannot work cooperatively since she’s smarter than all the men around her. Complicated, twisted plot sometimes just does not make sense. Motives often do not make sense and are not convincing. Page turner but too much conversation.
It was a complicated murder investigation of many young women by Alicia Friend and a Police Team. There were so many potential male murders involved. I never figured out who it was!!
More plot twists than an alpine mountain road. Kept surprising me. enjoyable and totally unpredictable. If I say more, I’ll give away the plot twists. Just read it and see!
enjoyed writing style but there were A LOT of characters to keep track of Will read more by this author
Great read!
Could not put his book down, the twists and turns keep you gripped till the last page…
