THE COLLECTORS : (BOOK # 0.6 HIS DARK MATERIALS) : PHILIP PULLMAN
Another Short Story & Quick Read In The Continuing ‘His Dark Materials Series’! This One’s Almost Over B4 It’s Begins only 20 pages or so long!
None of the major players or characters are in this book as such, but there is a mention of a beautiful woman in an oil painting and a bronze monkey statue which sound very much like the evil b**** Mrs Marisa Coulter and her despicable monkey Damon Ozymandias from His Dark Materials Series.
This beautiful little tale by Philip Pullman is set in 1970’s Winter in the Senior Common Dining Room in Horley’s Collage in Oxford & Horley’s Own Rooms & is a conversation between Horley & Grinstead about two very unique pieces of art, the oil painting of a beautiful young woman (who sounds suspiciously like the woman who is later to become the evil villainess Mrs Coulter (painted by a chap named Skipton) and a little bronze statue of a monkey with a rather Sinister look on its face (presumed to be Ms Coulter’s daemon Ozymandias) so, beautifully sculpted and in such fine detail every hair & fingernail is meticulously defined by French symbolist Marc-Antoine Deparc.
Miraculously, each time this painting was bought, sold, swapped won or gambled away, the 1ft high bronze statue, magically finds its way to the current owner of painting!
Although this is not the only supernatural occurrence between these two pieces of art, wherever they two claim their home togther mysterious deaths follow.
People who own the pair, try stealing it, separate it, or pray over it trying to remove the evil, end up dead as door nails!
And just like the real relationship between Mrs Coulter (a human) and Ozymandias (her Daemon) this painting & bust can not stand to be apart from eachother for more than a short period of time (just like all humans & their deamons, except for this very special, unique pair).
Although this phenomen has never been explained, how can this pair can exist so far apart from each other, when all other Human’s and Daemon’s can not exist apart from one another for small periods of time & only over a very short distance!
but just like the real relationship they can not exist without the other for more than a small period of time & magically always find their way together.
it seems to soak and the painting and the bus which is quite unusual as no other human and they Damon can be apart from each other more than a few feet or a small distance and bust come together they are owned by the same person and somehow mysterious and magically make their way together one shortly after the other if not sold together at the same time!
