Headstrong cowgirl Peta Dixon has put her life on hold this Christmas to prove she can run her ranch as well as any man. There isn’t anything she can’t ride, fix, or stare down, and the only things to scare her are long hemlines and sky-high heels.Self-made rancher Garrett Ross normally doesn’t take orders – he gives them. But when asked to step in to act as a temporary foreman on a Montana ranch … Montana ranch over the holidays, he can’t refuse.
Yet when Garrett meets the beautiful and stubborn ranch owner, he realizes he’s signed on for a whole lot of trouble. Cynical and jaded, he has no time for feelings. And when Peta meets the man she’s to share her life with until Christmas, she discovers she no longer wants to be the person others expect her to be…
Will the rancher finally listen to his heart and admit he can’t live without a certain straight-talking cowgirl?

I liked that this book was focused on characters who weren’t expecting to fall in love and who fought their feelings for as long as they could. In the beginning I wanted to shake the characters for being so quick to judge and make assumptions about each other. They both held on to those perceptions for a lot of the book. However, their attraction to each other was undeniable. Everyone around them knew what was going on long before the main characters did.
Some of those other characters have big roles to play in this story, they are from previous books in the series. At times it would be nice to know those stories and give context to them and their stories as a part of this one, but it isn’t necessary to understand and follow this story.
There were a few problems with pacing and some inconsistencies with how much the author describes things, but neither of those take away from the story. If grammar errors bother you while reading this probably isn’t the best book for you. There were a lot of extra or missing words; misspellings; sentences that are poorly written; etc. Had these things been fixed, I would have given the book a higher rating. There were too many of them, it made the book seem a little jarring.
This was a sweet romance, no language or graphic sex. Scenes like that were only implied (Ex. Talking about a hotel room being booked for later) There was passionate kissing that could be offensive to people who want a completely clean romance.
It ends with a happily ever after and wraps up a little too quickly in my opinion. The end made it feel more like an instant romance that didn’t have enough time to develop. It was a little too clean the way it wrapped up, not messy enough to make their happily ever after feel deserved. There wasn’t much work put into the relationship.
I struggled to connect with the main characters, the secondary characters were far more interesting (in my opinion), maybe that’s why I’m more critical about this story than I usually would be. It wasn’t a horrible book, I still enjoyed reading it and read it quickly, I just don’t think it was the right book for me.
I enjoyed this book, an interesting story. Hope to read more of Alissa’s books.
A truly sweet and lovely story of two endearing characters. The storyline was well written, engaging and smart. A heartwarming read.
Book six in the Wildflower Ranch series a well written story with a good storyline. Peta Dixon and Garrett Ross gets of to a rocky start when she comes home from her vacation to find him in her ranch house. Things have gone wrong in the places he was suppose to stay in and he had to move into the ranch house until things where corrected. I enjoyed seeing this story come together. I especially liked the surprise their friends and family gets as they are sitting down to Christmas dinner. This is a new Author to me, I now want to read the rest of this series.
Peta Dixon owns and runs a ranch as well as any man and has something to prove. Garrett Ross has been asked to step in as the head ranch hand to help Peta after her current hand has an accident. Garrett is an independent thinker and does not take orders well, especially from a woman. They work together, but will they find love??
A good book. Supposed temporary cowboy
Finds love with ranch owner and ranch life.
It was a enjoyable read!
I enjoyed the characters: both strong yet willing to let their guard down for the sake of love. I also enjoyed the setting as I’m a big fan of the west and I’m a sucker for holiday romances!
Loved it!
Good clean romantic story. You could tell that the setting was a ranch.
Thoroughly enjoyed this easy read. I was caught off-guard at the story’s point end, but definitely not disappointed.
His Christmas Cowgirl (Wildflower Ranch Book 6) by Alissa Callen
Peta Dixon runs her own ranch and not from the office but from the back of a horse. When her foreman is injured while she on vacation he brings in a friend to take his place. Did I mention that there both a bit bullhead. An entertaining story.
I felt this was a good romantic and life eye opener that there are still caring people who like to help others. We forget that quality of life so fast. Being a part of someone else is refreshing.
I fell in love with Ms Callens style. The story was so well constructed that it drew me into the lives of the characters. I felt like I was there and was sorry when it ended.
Don’t read this type of book very often and found it rather slow paced..
I need the remaining books in this series. I loved it!
What a wonderful story! I was truly enchanted with this story. Peta is the tough ranch owner who has come back from a month long trip overseas. Garrett is working as a temporary foreman on her ranch as his good friend was injured. There are a couple of misunderstandings in the beginning but are quickly worked out (kudos to the author for not dragging that out).
This book is written in a dual POV format. I love that. Being able to see what the character is going through and way really helps me to understand the character better and really enjoy the story so much more. You can feel the sexual tension between these two but without that glimpse into why they weren’t acting on it, especially Garrett, it would have been confusing. Garrett has been hurt in the past and is now used to women wanting to be with him for his money so he is wary of getting hurt again. Peta on the other hand is looking for her true love. All of her friends have found it and she has’t.
No more information, you will have to read the story on your own. You won’t regret it. I highly recommend it.
Lovely sweet story.
Fun Christmas read. One of many book, by a number of authors, set in Marietta, Montana. Christmas happy endings.
I found the hero to be so attractive. He was able to show his softer side and still be manly.
