FROM THE NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLING AUTHOR OF Sometimes I Lie “Stunning. Addictive. This book should not be missed!” –Samantha Downing “Deliciously dark…will have readers tearing through the pages.” –Mary Kubica “Gives Gone Girl a run for its money…I couldn’t stop reading.” –Christina Dalcher There are two sides to every story: yours and mine, ours and theirs, His & Hers. Which means … every story: yours and mine, ours and theirs, His & Hers. Which means someone is always lying.
When a woman is murdered in Blackdown, a quintessentially British village, newsreader Anna Andrews is reluctant to cover the case. Detective Jack Harper is suspicious of her involvement, until he becomes a suspect in his own murder investigation.
Someone isn’t telling the truth, and some secrets are worth killing to keep.
His & Hers is a twisty, smart, psychological thriller. A gripping tale of suspense, told by expertly-drawn narrators that will keep readers guessing until the very end.

This is written from the perspective of his(Jack) and hers(Anna) and the killer! One of the best mystery/thriller stories I’ve read this year! It deals with a group of girlfriends that carry horrible secrets into their adult lives! And a small town where everybody knows everything about most that live there!
You hear about the happenings from Jack and Anna’s viewpoints along with the killers. But the author does a great job of keeping you guessing of who the killer is throughout the book! I had many thoughts on who it was but I was wrong in the end! This one keeps you guessing till the very end! I really enjoyed the way the author presented the story of Blackdown and the secrets it hides!
There are at least two sides to every story: Yours and mine. Ours and theirs. His and hers. Which means someone is always lying.
We are a species capable of horrific acts, and incapable of learning from the lessons our own history tries to teach us.
The truth is that life broke us, and when we finally acknowledge that we didn’t know how to fix each other, we stopped trying.
You are more than the worst thing you’ve ever done.
There are at least two sides to every story: yours and mine, ours and theirs, his and hers….
This is hands down my favorite book by Alice Feeney. It pulled me in from the very first and didn’t disappoint anywhere throughout. It was told with such passion and beauty even though it’s a dark thriller that will keep you on edge and wondering who did it. I thought I had it all figured out but was in for a huge shock. Every guess I made was so wrong and that hardly ever happens. This book is great. Best of this series. Hands down the best book by this author.
This book is about a lot of things, mainly murder. The murder of someone that Anna, who is a reporter, went to school with. Who at one time was her best friend. Anna was raised by her mother who did everything she could for her after Anna’s dad left them. She worked hard to make things better for Anna. Anna didn’t always appreciate the things her mum did for her though. She just didn’t understand. Not until she became a mum herself. Even then she didn’t go see her mum like she should have. She had a busy life as a reporter and didn’t want to return to Blackdown for anyone. It held bad memories for Anna.
Jack, Anna’s ex husband, was the DCI on the case of Rachel, who was murdered. He lives with demons of his own and is surprised when Anna is the one covering the story of the woman killed in the woods. Things are not great for Jack. He’s living with his sister and her little girl and it’s not the best relationship. But he does the best he can. He’s never truly got over his love for Anna. He’s helped her mother who is suffering from dementia and tries to tell Anna how bad things are. Jack is a good man and you will root for him throughout this story. Almost always.
This book is told from three different people. Anna, Jack and the murder. You will have many guesses but my guess is you will know figure it out. This is really a very twisted story that takes you places you won’t soon forget. The trip through the woods. It’s so realistic you will feel as if you are there. In the depths of the underbrush. The darkness that is common in thick groves of trees. The many twists and turns. From the young girls to the older women who know these woods well.
I really did like almost all the characters in this book. Some more than others. I felt for some very deeply. My heart went out to them. Some I honestly wanted to smack hard. I didn’t like a few of them at all. Overall though you will root for most to make it. There are some twist that you probably won’t see coming.
I received an audio of this book and though I did love the voices on it, I had bought a paperback copy and read it from there. I’m not good at listening to books. I would much rather read it for myself. It was narrated excellently though for anyone that loves audio. You won’t be disappointed.
Thank you to #NetGalley, #AliceFeeney, #Flatironbooks for the audio of this story. This is my own review.
I had to give this a 5/5 stars and the highest recommendation. Grab it, read it, live it… if you dare.
Oh Wow!! This book was great! Absolutely not what I expected. Sometimes books that have multiple narrators and go back and forth in the store become confusing. Not this book. It was well written for all three POVs. I was kept guessing until the very end and still ended up so shocked with the twist. And let’s just say one of the voices was so super creepy that I had to stop listening when I was home alone!
I received this audiobook via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Feeney does it again! His & Hers is a twisty dual-narrative that gives Gone Girl a run for its money and leaves you wondering if you can trust anyone. I couldn’t stop reading.
Devoured His & Hers. Filmic and gripping with expertly-drawn narrators and a quintessentially English village where dark secrets are dragged into the light. His & Hers is a great read.
This is great. Keeps you guessing all the way through.
All the twists and turns and it took all the way to the end to find out who really done it! There are many sides to each story, his and hers…and the truth…and sometimes it is hard to figure out what that is. Anna is a newscaster and she is being sent back out in the field and her first story turns out to be the case in her hometown and the murder of a woman who used to be her best friend. Add to that, she was with her ex-husband the night before. Oh, but that is only the beginning. Soon, all the “girls” from back in the day are turning up murdered. This story was very, very good and kept me guessing.
Alice Feeney’s novel, His and Hers, is a solid whodunit with the twistiest of twists. You keep guessing who it might be, but find yourself changing your mind from chapter to chapter. Even from paragraph to paragraph, toward the end when things ramp up into an explosive encounter.
To be honest, I usually don’t enjoy books where the characters are all terribly flawed. Not that anyone needs to be perfect, but when everyone is selfish, self-centered, or a hot mess, I tend to check out and start making grocery lists in my mind instead of focusing on the story. But in this novel, I found myself intrigued and feeling compelled to read on, despite the fact that all the characters are people I’d never want to hang out with. They were wholly unlikable characters, all of them really.
Unlikable characters aside, what really elevated this story and brought it to life was the writing. Alice Feeney gave me exactly what I love about a good fiction novel: insight. I love a book that hosts a trove of quotable gems. His and Hers provided them in abundance.
Here are a few of my favorites:
“We rarely deserve the lives we lead. We pay for them however we can, be it with money, guilt or regret.”
“Patience is the answer to so many of life’s questions.”
“Sometimes I think I am the unreliable narrator of my own life. Sometimes I think we all are.”
“I think when we finally get what we think we want, it loses its value. It’s the secret nobody ever shares, because if they did, we would all stop trying.”
“People who get to know the real me are the ones I need to learn to hide from the most.”
“People get preoccupied with the fiction of ‘truth’. The lives we lead need to be gold-plated nowadays, a series of varnished truths for the sake of how we appear on the outside. Strangers who view us through a screen, whether on TV or social media, think they know who we are. Nobody is interested in reality anymore. That’s something they don’t want to like or share or follow. I can understand that, but living a make-believe life can be dangerous. What we won’t see can hurt us. In the future, I expect people will long for 15 minutes of privacy, rather than 15 minutes of fame.”
“Tell a person they’re wrong, and they’ll cover their ears. Tell a person they’re right, and they’ll listen to you all day long.”
Well, I sure didn’t see that ending coming! His & Hers, my first Alice Feeney novel, took me on a dark thrill ride of disturbing twists and turns. I chose to listen to his book via NetGalley’s new audio format and was quite pleased with the experience. The book started off a little slow, but quickly picked up a frenetic pace. The story is told back and forth from two points of view; hers is Anna Andrews a BBC TV reporter, his is DCI Jack Harper, Anna’s ex-husband. To make it even more interesting there is a third point of view, the murderer whose disguised voice is creepy and unnerving.
Anna loses her broadcasting job to the original reporter, Cat Jones, who returns from maternity leave. She is sent back to her hometown of Blackdown Woods to cover the murder of a local woman who is known by both Anna and Jack. Soon more murders occur, and it is evident that Jack is under suspicion. Anna, already an alcoholic, is drinking more heavily from old hurts resurfacing. The two of them are in a race to solve the case.
Several times I thought I had it all figured out, but I was very wrong! Feeney’s master writing skills, plot, and character development made this an excellent read for me. There were some gruesome scenes in the book that may make some uncomfortable. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read/listen to this book. I look forward to more Alice Feeney books. I gave it four stars.
Just when I thought I had it figured out, the twist gets twisty!! Narrated by 2 POVs, news reporter Anna Andrews & DCI Jack Harper. Hers – Anna is asked to cover a murder, turns out the victim is a childhood friend. His – Remains quiet on knowing who the victim is & becomes a suspect on his own investigation! Who’s telling the truth?? Another thrill ride from the author, love this & Sometimes I Lied! Thank you to Flatiron Books for an ebook ARC. This is my honest review.

**********
This book was fantastic! It was a thriller that really fed every aspect and need that readers of this genre yearn for.
The book captivated every sense of mine and I was lost in the story; not hearing a sound, smelling a thing or seeing anything but the visualization that was created in my own head. The two POV’s was told by alternating chapters. It was brilliant and noted at the end of each chapter; by the killer (who could be anyone; even possibly one of the protagonists). I felt such a satisfaction with what occurred and what I didn’t see coming and this book was on my mind whenever I was away from it.
Detectives Jack Harper and Newscaster Anna Andrews are a former married couple, now divorced after the loss of their child two year marriage prior.
They can’t help but get linked up again when there is news of a murder and Jack must investigate and Anna must cover the story. But what they uncover is that this is not a coincidence to either of them. Someone is out to make one of them pay for the mistakes of the past. And slowly, people are dying at the hands of a serial killer. Could they be framing one another or is it someone with an unburied secret seeking retribution for the past. Or simply a serial killer trying to gain notoriety… Regardless, they are suspects but at the same time may be in harm’s way along with their loved ones.
That’s why this needs to be resolved as quickly as possible before the loss of life becomes too great.
I received this complimentary audiobook from NetGalley and Macmillan Audio in exchange for an unbiased review.
I found the narrators of this audiobook brilliant in their roles as story tellers. The story alternates between His and Hers POV plus a creepy “other” character who seems to know the whole story.
She is Anna Andrews a woman who feels like she has worked hard to achieve her dream job as BBC news bulletin reporter. Since she has been filling in for Cat who had been out on maternity leave for 2 years she had not imagined that Cat would return and want to resume her position. She was deflated when she was demoted back to news correspondent especially given all she has lost over the years. She is not a reliable narrator given her alcohol abuse with related memory issues and tendency to twist the truth. Anna is not happy when she is instructed by Cat to return to her hometown of Blackdown to cover a recent murder.
He is Detective Jack Harper the head of the major crime department in Blackdown. After his divorce he finds himself doing things he never would imagined. It’s only when he is called to a crime scene to discover his recognizes the victim does his reckless actions come full circle. He realizes that he will become a suspect if it’s discovered that he was with her that night. When he thinks his situation can’t get more complicated he sees that Anna Andrews is covering the story for the BBC.
It seems both Anna and Jack know the victim as well as the next woman who turns up dead. The workings of a serial killer keeps Anna in Blackdown much longer than she had hoped. The additional murders bring back past memories which they had buried in the past.
There are so many moving parts of this fast paced story. There are many characters who appear to be likely suspects until another character seems to have a better motive. Usually a good crime novel involves expecting the unexpected. Well, this novel goes way beyond that theory so much that right until the end there are still many working theories of the suspect. It wraps up in a manner which makes sense but with no direct correlation throughout the novel to lead you to this conclusion!
I received an advanced copy from NetGalley. Finished this in one go. Nice, unexpected ending which I love.
I actually really enjoyed this one! An ending I totally didn’t see coming. There were quite a few jaw dropping moments! I highly recommend this book in audio, because the mystery killer’s chapters are really creepy.
Narrators Richard Armitage and Stephanie Racine were perfect for their characters. I really enjoyed their narrations.
I received this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this unbiased review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
This was one wild ride!!! It’s dark, it’s creepy, it’s very fast paced and my head was spinning from all the twists and turns. I loved the back and forth His and Her viewpoints and the italicized viewpoint that I kept guessing and guessing at. In the last 20% my jaw was literally dropping multiple times from each new revelation and twist. It was a very chilling read that kept me turning the pages as fast as I could read them. Bravo Feeney on a well done thriller.
This book absolutely deserved all of my stars! If you love a thriller that keeps you second guessing the entire time, this book is for you!
I listened to this on audio and the narrators were superb! This is one of those books that I’m actually thankful to have listened to vs reading. I hated having to hit that pause button, I just wanted to listen nonstop until it ended. For anyone who read the book and was wondering how it was done on audio, feel free to dm me 😉 .
I love (and love to hate?) unreliable narrators, characters that are a hot mess and not necessarily likable yet you still get drawn into their stories. The dual perspective was perfect! The woods were a total added bonus. The entire time I was second guessing myself. I did get it right, but that doesn’t matter since I kept thinking I was wrong and there were such good reasons to think I was wrong! Plus, there was still a twist. I love when I’m constantly reviewing things in my head.
I often don’t put the plot into my reviews because 1) the synopsis is right up there ^ and 2) I know there are other people like me who prefer going into books blind, especially thrillers, so if you want to know any of that, you gotta read the synopsis. Just know that it’s a kick ass thriller with twists that keep you guessing/second guessing throughout. And if you don’t like messy characters and unreliable narrators, then this one probably isn’t for you.

Huge thanks to Libro.fm, Netgalley, Macmillan Audio/Flat Iron books for the ALC!
Darkly twisted, chilling, fast-paced, and unpredictable. Exactly what you want from a thriller!
When you grow up sitting in life’s cheap seats, it’s too easy to see behind the puppets dancing on its stage.
“His & Hers” delivers two sides of a story. One side from Anna, the sophisticated TV presenter of the BBC’s lunchtime news. The other from DCI Jack Harper, the investigator in a series of murders in Blackdown. The small village they both grew up in. Anna and Jack have a complex relationship, that is further complicated by their links to each other and the victims.
”Success is like love-it’s not something everyone can appreciate, even when they have it.”
Is one of them lying…or perhaps both? The author keeps you hanging until the very end! What a crazy and exceptional final twist, when the murderer is finally revealed.
Alice Feeney is a remarkable author, that I can’t praise enough!

ARC kindly received from Harlequin Aus in exchange for an honest review.
I was intrigued by this one right from the start. There are quite a few characters at play in this novel, even though the story is told from two main characters, and a few from the murderer themselves.
Jack and Anna both have many layers and situations that involve them with the things going around them, from their jobs to their pasts, and unravelling it all is quite the journey.
I thought that I had an idea of who the murderer was, and then new things would come to light and I would change my mind. This book delves into many issues that people deal with, horrific things, and it adds depth and suspicion to everything.
By the end, I thought I had a pretty good idea of who the suspect would turn out to be, and then that was thrown on the window. So then, I thought, it’s the original person I suspected. Next minute, at the very end, the author throws you truth, and it was so completely unexpected that I was just like, wait…what?!
Keeping you guessing until the end, this was a great thriller/mystery novel, and although my first from this author, will not be my last. Would recommend.
Trigger Warning: I deducted 1* for descriptive animal cruelty
This a mind blowing psychological thriller in every sense of the word!! If you are looking for a book that will keep you guessing at the “killer” until the very end, this is the one for you. I was convinced I knew what was going on until the very end, and I was very wrong!! The ending was great and tied up the novel brilliantly!
The first POV is that of Anna Andrews, a news journalist that has finally been working in her dream job. She is anchoring a noon hour broadcast on BBC. She has given up a lot to get here, started from the very bottom rung of the ladder, even sacrificing her relationship with her husband which ended in divorce. She is never really happy with herself though, is an alcoholic and eats almost nothing to maintain the look that she wants.
She thought her job was secure, until the woman who had this job previously, comes back. After a maternity leave for two children, Cat Jones has come back to claim what she feels is her rightful place. “I picture her sitting in what, only yesterday, was my chair. . . . .The mental image doesn’t make me feel sick, it makes me feel thirsty. My fingers come to the rescue, and automatically start to search inside my bag for a miniature whiskey.”
Anna is demoted back to a correspondent. She is assigned to cover a murder in sleepy Blackdown Woods, a place that she never wanted to return to. This assignment will open up everything you need to know about Anna, and the cult of friends that she was a part of in high school. This group of girls did some pretty horrible things to be included in Rachel’s exclusive group. You have never known a group of girls like this one!!!
The second POV is that of DCI Jack Harper, he is the inspector who is assigned to the murder in Blackdown Woods. He is shocked when he sees the victim, he knows her, intimately. He has his own problems. He has a 2 y/o toddler with a woman whom he isn’t married to and still holds a flame for Anna, his first wife. He is generally bored with his job until the first girl is found murdered in Blackdown Woods! He will have lots of action to keep him busy for the next weeks and he will never be the same again.
There is a third POV, that of the killer. I paid attention to every word and still didn’t guess the outcome! Everyone is a suspect, everyone has motives.
You won’t be able to stop reading this one, clear your day and your night! This author is a master of psychological fiction, I just wish that she hadn’t chosen to include animal cruelty in her last book as well as this one.
I received an ARC of this novel from the publisher through Edelweiss
His & Hers is set to publish July 28, 2020
So good, so good
