The hero in the story was written to appear like a teenager. He is heir to a Lairdship that he fears and feels he does not want. He is shy and blushes a lot. His people were run out of their homes when a vicious man killed his father. Now that he is twenty-one apparently old enough to lead men to war to win back their rightful home and place, he is frightened and confused. He is encouraged by his mother, step-father and uncle. However, he is constantly distracted by a young lassie who has captured his heart. Our heroine is the daughter of the man who killed his father and took over the castle and lairdship. But that makes no difference to our hero. Worried yes, so he gives her a false identity to protect himself and his people. They get to know each other and find the attraction mutual. There are hurdles to overcome but the heroine seems much more mature than our hero even though she is a year or two younger than him. She hates her father who treats her and her mother abominably. He lives life as if he is the ruler of the world and he really does not realize those he thinks as allies are not. They despise him. He is a wicked evil man who has a revenge grudge against our hero’s mother and step-father (who happens to be his own brother). Two thirds of the book is about the H/h trying to get away from their perspective families to see each. In secret of course. It describes how they get to know each other and fall in love. Our hero is caught by the captain of the guard from the heroine’s castle and he is thrown into the dungeon. At this point is was good he never divulged the truth of who he was to our heroine. Her reactions to her father were so convincing that he was of no harm. Had her father known he was the heir to his clan he would have been killed on the spot. She managed to help him escape. Now his family said it was time for him to lead their people to victory and take back their legacy. When he saw her again it was sweet, they were both virgins when they first made love. Now that he knew he could trust her he had to come clean about who he was. He was not sure he would lose her forever. He did not. He warned her of the attack so she could keep herself and her mother safe. On the day of the battle, the enemy’s supposed allies did not come to his aid and he was outnumbered. But he was so enraged to get revenge on the heir and his brother he fought to the death. This is a sweet story for a younger person who loves historical romances. I feel the audience for this book is geared or should be geared to the youth who love to read. I have read Kenna Kendrick’s other Highland books and found them entertaining. This one I would recommend to my niece or nephew. I do recommend this to a young teen audience.
A good read of Love winning over hatred. The extension was short and felt hastily written. Some grammatical errors here and there throughout, but overall a good read. Thank you for the chance to be an ARC member.
Like mother to son their road to love has not been easy. Due to mom running off with the Laird’s younger brother after he killed her husband leaving their unborn child without a clan home.
Now the son is of age everything one treats him as if he is a youngling who has to be told what to do.
Nairne is raised by a tyrant that doesn’t love her or her mother.
When these two meet thing will be come dangerous for both of them.
This book was well written but came off feeling like a young teen read not a true adult romance. I enjoyed it but felt it was meant for a younger audience.
The storyline was wonderfully written with characters that were written with such great detail and depth that as I turned each and every page I felt like I was sitting on the sidelines watching as the story unfolded between Andrew and Nairne!
I got to escape to another time and place that gave me a grand adventure. Given the mission that Andrew has we follow him to see where he goes. Oh and does he have a good predicament to overcome in the form of bad really bad-Murdoch.
Then there is Nairne whom is enchanting but oh the devil of a father she has. When these two cross paths then this really begins to become exhilarating. Seeing where this is going pulls us forward but danger is there. Oh does this weave around us captivating us. We are given a dangerously delicious love story that leaves us very satisfied.
A sweet romance with wonderful characters. Kenna Kendrick breathes life into her characters and I always feel like I am right there in the middle of each story watching it unfold. Suspensful and exciting, with a great HEA!
