Love highlander stories
I have been provided with a review copy of Highlander’s Passion by the author for an impartial review. This is the second book in The Matheson Brothers trilogy and it picks up shortly after we left off in Highlander’s Desire. In this book we get to see Finlay one of the Matheson brothers that we previously met in the first book. I really enjoyed getting to see the continuation of this series and to see how Finlay and Arabel would come together to figure out her skill. This book was such an easy read and I can’t wait to read the conclusion of this series.
this book is not a stand alone as the information indicates, it ends just as a war is starting and then you have to buy the next several in the series. I like series books, but not if it is listed as Stand Alone.
This story follows Finlay and Arabel as they meet. Arabel with her Fae powers fears she will harm Finlay who is sure that she is the one he is meant to be. After she asks for him to be compelled to forget her after each time they meet, Finlay knows that there is something wrong. He knows that his mate is near and every time that they meet he is sure that they know each other. Fighting each other as to what is right, they must find a way to be together.
This is the second story in the series and I really liked it. The only reason I would say to read the first one is because I liked it. Even though a part of a series, all information that is needed from the first book is included in this one.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I love love love this series so much! She really creates a world that I can just escape to. Finn and Arabel are such a great couple. I loved them from their first interaction at the lake where she is cooling off and her sister asks Finn to keep an eye out for her. I love that he “schmoozes” his way into her room. I love that Joanne can switch between the current time and the past so effortlessly and that she writes such strong female characters. I was so sad when she makes Finn’s sister-in-law (and brothers) help him forget he meets her every time they meet but Joanne gives me my HEA :-)! Go power of three, go elements!!!
Well written story with nice story line and plot. At time very repetive and that spoiled the story a bit. But a part from this it is an enjoyable read that has nice characters who are well described and develops well. A lot better that the first book in this series.
The second in the Matheson Brother series. You might be able to read it alone, but you’ll miss the backstory. I’d read Highlanders Desire (#1) first. This continues the story of the Power of Three. They are three brothers that are shifters and they have come from the present to the 12th century. The oldest met his match in the previous book. This is Findlay’s story. He has found his mate as well and she is a fire wielder (dangerous). Off to read #3. (I voluntarily reviewed an ARC).
The second book in The Matheson Brothers series this one is Fae-blooded Arabel and Highland warrior shifter Finlay Matheson’s story. A well-written book and I want to read the next book. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and I also bought the book.
This is a wickedly delicious continuation of the time traveling Matheson Brother’s saga. Book two concentrates on one of the Matheson triplets warrior Finlay. Finlay, Kirk, Iain and Iain’s mate Isla, has crossed back in time to the twelfth century. The year is 1210. The preparation for the fight to save the fae clan village is in full swing. Due to their future knowledge, the brothers and Isla know in advance when the attack will take place. Nessa the seer in the twelfth century has communication with Isla’s father Murdock Matheson of the seer clan leader of the present day fae clan. They can talk to each other through time when they have the same vision. Both Nessa and Murdock know how important this battle is. It must be won or the future of the fae clan will become extinct. Meanwhile Finlay and Kirk are on the search for their fated mates. Nessa has seen that their mates will be found in this twelfth century not in their present time. Finlay and Kirk are meeting all the eligible maidens in the area searching for their true mates. Nessa has twin granddaughters, Julia and Arabel. Arabel has been gifted with a rare fae skill. She is a fire-wielder. Arabel can produce fire from her hands. She is the last of her kind. Since the Matheson brother’s arrival, Arabel’s control over her fire was wavering. Sometimes up to several times a day, she had to go swim in a cool pool of water to calm her fire down. One such evening Julia accompanied Arabel to the pool. When Arabel’s aura turned ice blue, Julia became alarmed. If it continued, Arabel could lose her life. Julia left Arabel in search of their grandmother Nessa to find out what they should do. Finlay was riding by when Julia asked him to guard Arabel. Finlay was unconsciously attracted to Arabel and yet Arabel did not want Findlay anywhere near her. Arabel was afraid she would burn Finlay alive causing his death. She could not have that. But Finlay followed his instincts and was determined to get to know Arabel. He took her all the way to her chamber in the castle. He decided he would not leave her. He finally recognized Arabel as his fated mate. When he told her this, despite what she was feeling for Finlay, she refused to believe it. It was forbidden for a fire-wielding fae to mate. The past generations of faes like her, had married. One their wedding night, when they first had intimate relations, they caused the death of their mates. Thus Arabel was forbidden to marry. Findlay was not deterred. He pursued Arabel. When she again fell to her knees suffering from the ice-cold blue aura, she had to do something to save Findlay. Arabel convinced Isla, who had the skill to compel, to compel Findlay and his brothers to forget her being Findlay’s mate. Isla complied. Arabel at the time did not understand that when two fated mates met, it would be painful to be apart. Arabel was constantly running away from Findlay. Despite being compelled, Findlay was still drawn to Arabel. Arabel knew that it could no longer be avoided. Findlay and Arabel took shelter from a storm in a cave. Arabel found her fire was gone and she was shocked that she could now be joined with Findlay. They performed the hand-fasting ceremony and pledged eternal devotion and love for each other. They now became mentally and physically joined. Their chemistry was beyond words. It was extremely hot. (no pun intended) Arabel now understood everything Findlay had been telling her about fated mates. When she awoke in the morning, Findlay was still asleep. She knew she had to undo the compel command. But Arabel also knew when she left Findlay’s side, he would automatically forget all about her and the night they spent together. Isla gathered the three brothers together and between her and Arabel, they explained what they did and why. At first the men were put out, but eventually understood. Isla reversed the spell and Findlay was desperate to have Arabel alone and have her tell him all that was hidden from him. As they spent time together, Arabel had to take the intimacy factor with Findlay in care. Otherwise her fire would become uncontrollable and Findlay would face death. But had they not been able to be joined in the cave? They discovered if the elements of air, fire, water and earth were aligned, they would be able to join. Findlay had a theory that perhaps if the conditions were duplicated, they would be able to be intimate. Interrupting their pondering, the bugle sounded twice indicating they were under attack. What confounded everyone from Nessa to the brothers was that the attack was two days ahead of schedule and they had no warning. Findlay told Arabel to stay with Isla and Julia in the castle to be safe. Findlay rushed to his brothers and the other warriors. Arabel found Isla and they decided that they were not to be left behind. Their place was beside their mates and they would use their gifts to fight alongside them. When they arrived at the battle, they went into action against the wishes of their mates. It was a good thing that they were there. They turned the tide against their enemy, the MacKenzie clan and the battle was won. The future of the bear shifter clan and the fae clan was now secure. All the men cheered and in the future Murdock’s new reality now represented their new lives. Findlay swept Arabel and returned to the cave where he reproduced the four elements. It worked and now Arabel was able to have intimate relations with Findlay. She wanted a family and Findlay promised to do his duty to ensure she became pregnant. The Matheson brothers and mates cannot return to the future until all the brothers have their mates. Now it was Kirk’s turn to find his. The next book in the series is Highlander’s Seduction. I can’t wait to read the book. I highly recommend this series. You will not be dissapointed.
Three identical brothers know as The Power of Three seek their mates in order to save their clan from extinction. This book is shifter Finlay and Fae Arabel’s story and what a tale it is! Finley travels back in time to find his bond mate who he has been searching for five years. Now, in centuries past, he is pulled to Arabel, a rare Fae blooded fire wielder. Due to the nature of her gift, she has not been granted a mate. Each time they meet she wipes he mind so that each meeting is new to him.
But as fate would have it they continue to be drawn together and hope they will be given a chance to bond.
This book went through the gamut of emotions and kept me wondering what would happen next as I turned the page. Do not miss this addition to The Matheson Brothers trilogy. It can be read as a stand alone but you do not want to miss a minute of this series…
This book was such a delight to read that I had a very hard time putting it down, so I ended up reading it in one sitting! The great character and storyline development kept me totally engaged throughout the entire book! I look forward to reading more from this author!
Highlander’s Passion is the second book in the Matheson Brothers series. Finlay has been searching for his mate for the past five years, and while he feels the call, he’s never been able to find her. Now, centuries in the past, he’s drawn to Arabel, a fae-blooded fire wielder. But due to her nature and the dangers of her gift, she’s not allowed to have a mate. She begs for Finlay to stay safe, and asks his sister in law to compel Finlay to forget all about her. But when fate brings them back together, will it also give them the opportunity to be a true mating, or will their hopes dash with her flames?
Oh my, this book brought out all of the emotions within me. I was cheering, tearing up, nervous, and just about swooning with everything that Finlay and Arabel needed to go through. I loved their romance! Finlay was so determined to find his mate, to make her happy and keep her safe. Arabel was just as fierce with need to keep Finlay safe, and was willing to give it all up in order for him to fulfill his destiny. Together, their passion was bright and strong, I loved how sweet they were together, and the plot line definitely kept me engaged and wondering what would happen next! While you don’t need to read the first book in the series (this is a stand alone), I think this would be best enjoyed reading the series in order. I absolutely loved reading this book and I am really excited to read the next book to find out about Kirk’s romance!
While I truly enjoyed the storyline, I felt that the dialogue was stilted at times as well as the writing being generally repetitive in spots. The characters are interesting. The premise is original. Overall it’s a good read with a happily ever after ending that builds on the last book in the series and sets up the next book in the series as well. I would have rated it higher except for the clunky dialogue and overexplanation. It probably won’t stop me from reading the next book in the series, as I enjoy the storyline enough to want to see what happens with Kirk, since Iain and Finlay have both found their mates. Kirk deserves to find his happily ever after too.
Another enjoyable read, thank you ! Theresa
Nicely engaging!
