Ann Marie has done another great job !! I loved this book. Absolutely love the wittiness, smarts, protectiveness and determination of Leana, a farmer. She has taken over doing the farm work as her dad came back from war and two days later had a bad chest. Of course back in those days that is very deadly especially in their living conditions.
Laird Fraser has been angry every since his wife died, even towards his daughter. She doesn’t understand why he doesn’t love her like he should. One day an heirloom candlestick and a horse was stolen and the their thief was later found my Laird Fraser and his men in Leana’s hut. When he first saw her he thought she was beautiful and then he was angry thinking she harbored a thief on purpose. She despised him.
A few days later he went back to collect the rent, or at least that’s what he told himself, when he actually just wanted to see her. He also needed her help. From that day forward things progressed.
From lost love, anger, bandits, fighting, death, health issues, forming friendships and love. It’s all in here.
I received this as an ARC for my honest and voluntary review.
I loved this story. So inspirational. The h is a good moral Christian woman and only desires to be good to other and think well of them. She is a hard worker. She tends to the farm, works the land, keeps the house, cooks and cleans and takes care of her ailing father. The H has an angry intimidating attitude and has been this way for at least ten years since his wife died. He has a young daughter who is thirteen and he has been neglectful in showing his love to her. He never shows any emotions other than his angry side. The he meets the h and his heart is stirred. He has not felt like this since his wife died. He wanted, no needed to get to know her and spend more time with her. When he was around her, he was calm. She showed him how to have mercy for others and to see the plight of the unfortunate under his care as laird. She tried to extinguish any attraction to him. She was of lowly uneducated birth, a commoner. He was nobility, a laird. But he showed her how that did not matter. There were problems with other high-born lairds who looked down on the relationship. He would not have her name besmirched in anyway. Unexpected problems arose which caused the h to reconsider her relationship with the H. But he reassured her nothing could come between them. One laird in particular took offense and demanded satisfaction in the form of a duel. It was crazy. This is a fast-paced story packed with inspirational messages, action and adventure and true love. Please do not get the wrong idea. This is not a religious preaching story. It is more about how to treat others with kindness, love and mercy. A great story and I highly recommend it.
