Collette wastes no time, diving into this story with great details, fun characters, and a unique plot. Warmth, adventure, and a few moments of humor make the book an entertaining read!
Ewan and Yvette are on the run from people trying to harm her. They are chased across England to Scotland where the culmination happens. What happens to the young couple? For eighteen and above. Some violence. I loved the book and will read it again. I also like the difference from this version and the last.
What a delightful read by Collette Cameron. Perfectly engaging main characters and supporting characters, some who did not have two legs. There is laugh out loud humor, mystery, attempted murders and abductions, spies, villains, and brawny Highlanders. But most of all, there is an endearing and wonderful romance between Ewan and Evvy. I loved the funny, witty, lively back and forth banter between them. They were perfect for one another. Thank you Collette. You rock as an author!
Rated: 4 1/2 – 5 Stars
Why oh why can’t all books be like this? I loved everything about it. I loved the characters, the story, and the feels between Ewan and Yvette. I felt them falling in love even while Yvette was being pursued by some very bad people who wanted to kill her.
I’m ahead of myself. I apologize. Yvette Stapleton is Vangie Caruthers cousin (see book 1, The Viscount’s Vow). During the mentioned book, it is said that Yvette is going to America for two years. She did and had to make a quick getaway. Her parents have perished under questionable circumstances and she’s next. She knows her stepbrother is behind it all and he is tenacious as all get out. What she wasn’t counting on was it being a conspiracy and the actual motive. It surprised me.
Ewan McTavish, wow. I adored him so much. He’s the Laird of Craiglocky as well as Viscount Sethwick. He doesn’t have much of a brogue normally, but when he needs it, he’s got it. It also surfaces when he’s having intimate moments with Evvy. I loved it when that happened. He’s a mix of Scot, his mother is French, and he came to be a viscount…it’s convoluted, but works so well. His speech was what drew me to him. He spoke clear English, Scot, and French. He captivated me. He had a lot of feelings for Evvy, even though he didn’t come right out and say it. He was so protective right from the moment he swooped her up in his carriage while she was running away from her stepbrother on the docks of the harbor where she’d arrived by ship.
Yvette–Evvy–she was so sweet. I liked her so much. She wasn’t an overbearing, spoiled wealthy woman. She wanted to be independent and wasn’t sure if she would ever marry because she wanted to marry for love. She didn’t want her husband to want her for her money. She wanted him to want her for her. But with Ewan she seemed to forget all of that. She was undeniably attracted to him as he was her, but she didn’t think it was love.
This led to some great tension and some compromising situations that were rated PG-13. Lots of people like the rated R scenes, but PG-13 was more than sufficient for this book. The scenes were descriptive rather than fade-to-black and were done without the crass language, yet it was totally understood what was going on with plenty of sensuality and sensitivity. The feelings between Ewan and Evvy screamed from the screen, especially during these scenes.
These components, combined with a more than a few villains and antagonists, made this book an easy, easy five stars. I’m excited to read the next book in the series.
Just as a side note, I like big books, but sometimes they tend to drag when there’s so much information and things going on. That did NOT happen with this novel. Every page was worthwhile. I didn’t feel the need to skip parts nor did I think there were any parts that were just fluff. The book was a mover and shaker from the second I started reading it.
Hard to put this book down….found myself finding excuses to sit down and read this delightful story! Hated for this book to end…..plan to read the rest of the Castle Brides series.
I always enjoy the romance with just the right amount of humor.
I started the series in the middle with Adaira’s story, so had to peddle back and read Vangie and Yvette’s! Loved reading how Yvette and Ewan came to be together as well as the evil they faced to get their HEA. Hopefully we get to Ewan’s sisters’ stories soon!
Wonderful, Adventurous & Exciting
This Book has Absolutely Wonderful Characters, it’s well written.
The twist & turns it has with murder, abduction & Romance.
A definite reread.
Heiress Yvette Stapleton is beautiful, rich & single and she is running from a man who is trying to kidnap her & force her to marry him so he will have her money. He is willing to even murder to obtain the end result he desires. She is strong willed & will be successful in her own future without being tied to a husband – which she does not want. In an attempt to escape, she stows away on a ship out of Boston sailing to England to obtain help from her solicitor.
Ewan McTavish, Viscount Sethwick & Laird of Craiglocky Keep has one more mission for the Crown before he resigns. He has never forgotten a young lady he met and danced with at a wedding (The Viscount’s Vow) and now he has met her again.
When Yvette and Ewan meet again, she is trying to escape her pursuers and finds herself in Ewan’s carriage. After discovering more about Yvette’s problems, Ewan is bound to protect her from her enemy and at the same time find the traitor he has been after – as they are the same person. The danger, adventures, denial, and fighting are entertaining and finally lead to a HEA. I highly recommend this book and the series to all historical romance readers.
This one is a solid 3.5 star book. It had some steam in it though not overly. I do have to admit to flipping through some pages that I felt were dragging on.
“Highlander’s Hope” (nook) is another good story by Collette Cameron. I love how Ms. Cameron combines unexpected love with danger and angst. And, a HEA.
There were a few editing blips but did not detract from my enjoyment.
Yvette and Ewan shared a dance at her cousin’s wedding (The Viscount’s Vow) and then left for America. While there her step-brother murders her parents and tries to force her to marry him. She escapes back to England but now has other’s who true to kidnap her. Ewan, still working for the crown, knows who are after Yvette and tries to protect her. He agrees to escort her to the northern estate of her cousin. On the way, they are caught in a compromising situation and pretend to be married. Now on the way some Assassins want Ewan dead so Yvette gets caught in the middle! Ewan calls for aid (since he is Laird) many Scots arrive to help. While in Scotland they get caught in a snowstorm. At the pub Ewan is force to say out loud that they are married. Yvette not knowing any better way it back to Ewan. Well in Scotland that is legal and binding. Now Yvette has to fix that mess and hide from her stepbrother and dodge the Assassin! All the while Ewan wants nothing more than to stay married. Will Yvette finally find someone who loves her for her?? HEA of course
