I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.
I love Fiona’s writing, and this sequel to Highlander’s Virtuous Lady is a very good book. It should receive 5-Stars from me, but I was disappointed in the attitudes of both Margaret and Gilbert. Even though they redeemed themselves at the end, I wasn’t expecting them to be so outside the loving characters they were in Book 1. Lizzie has gone through a lot in her young life – that she should not have had to. And to be bullied and blackmailed after she was so abused as a child, I’m glad that Duncan could overlook her past and have a happy ending.
Don’t you just love a story where the guy finally gets the girl? Fiona certainly kept me guessing right to the end. Highlander’s Forbidden Love is full of surprises and a few shocks. Two people trying to find their place in the world, find each other and fight for their love despite the odds. Another wonderful read.
I received this book as an ARC and am reviewing it of my own free will. I love this authors’ writing. This is the story of Elizabeth Bryce. She was sexually abused since she was a very young child. She is taken in and educated and taught to be a lady by Lady Margaret and Sir Gilbert. She still has an enemy in the castle, unbeknownst to Margaret and Gilbert. What will happen to Elizabeth? Is she destined to be abused the rest of her life? I recommend this book to mature readers.
Once again, Faris offers up a most unique story line with heart-warming characters like Elizabeth and Duncan that you can really get attached to. Her plot ideas are fresh and exciting and always keep me riveted to the pages.
I became an instant fan of Faris, when I read her first book, A Maid for the Grieving Highlander. Her second book, The Highlander’s Virtuous Lady, turned me into a dedicated fan. And, with this book, she becomes one of my favorite new authors of historical romance.
Wow! I have to say that though this story started off a bit slow, it very quickly gained speed – so much so that I couldn’t put it down. Elizabeth Bryce has been abused all of her young life. She is taken into the Hay’s castle by its mistress Lady Margaret Countess of Errol to serve as her personal handmaiden. One day, Elizabeth goes exploring near the castle and is trapped in a cove by the sea. She is rescued from certain drowning by Duncan Comyn. She doesn’t realize that Duncan is the sworn enemy of the Hay family who have taken her in. Thus begins the dance of Elizabeth trying to decide to follow her heart or betray the family who has loved her.
Faris spins an amazing tale using historical facts among her threads. This is more than just a Romeo and Juliet remake. Each character is brought vividly to life with all their strengths and weaknesses. I really enjoyed it.
