It was a great read.
Beautiful romance with so many twist and turns I started to worry. How much longer they have to suffer and fight to be really together?
Very enjoyable and entertaining.
Part of the Scottish Medieval Highlander Romance Novel series a well written story that drew me in from the start. Lady Madeleine Campbell and Ian Arthur’s story has suspense, drama, danger, murder, villains, and romance. A story I enjoyed reading.
Strong women as well as strong men!
I enjoyed the heroine Madeleine as she had both the physical as well as emotional strength to lead her clan. Great love story with a variation on Romeo and Juliet that was enjoyable to read. Many twists and turns keep the pages turning!
What a wonderful story! I actually couldn’t put this book down. Massive turns and twists a true romance in the end always wins out. Thank the heavens. The two most unlikely people to meet and fall in love.
I loved the book. The characters had good depth and very realistic. Maddie had great courage over the many obstacles that were put in her path. Didn’t notice any grammar mistakes.
Two clans that have been at battle with each other a long time the Campbell clan and the Arthur Clan and it could get worse when Madeleine and Ian of clan Arthur meet.

James goes one step further with the help of Maggie’s Aunt they petition the King for Marriage how will Maggie get out of this with the help of one jealous women. But when she thinks she’s free with only her name tarnished she heres from someone that Fyn has kept a secret about who he really is she decides to go back to Scotland.

And when Ian decides to take back what is his he will dicover just how gready and manipulative his uncle is. With divided loyalties danger from there own and murder Ian and Madeleine will either unite against there enemy and find love and peace or be lost to each other forever.
I was allowed and advance copy of this book but also purchased one.
Finding this story a very interesting story about a woman who was told to go to her aunt and learn to be a lady. She met four lady’s who becomes her friends and she also meets a man who she fill in love with. She also found out that he lied to her because of their clan. The woman went back home after she found out the truth. I give this story a five star rating
The path to true love isn’t always easy and that is especially true for Maddie Campbell and Ian Arthur. It is even more complicated when the two Scots meet in France where Maddie has been sent to become a refined lady and meet someone and marry well. When Maddie becomes engaged to James Crussol, the most eligible bachelor at court, all hope is lost for her to become Ian’s wife. After a deceitful turn of events Maddie is forced to return to Scotland leaving Ian behind. Will Ian follow her back to Scotland and try to win her back or will their love die on the battlefield?
This is a & strong willed girl who is sent to France to find a husband. As two men found out when they tried to rape her. As she told her parents she didn’t kill them but children aren’t possible anymore. No female was taught how to use a broad sword except Madeline?
A common practice in Queen Mary’s time. It was felt that the French Court was more lavish, more exciting and the place to be if titles and land are what you are looking for..
Two men find that they must have Madeline, one with a title and very close ties to the French King and Queen; and the other a fellow Scott, from a warring clan. One who wants to break Madeline’s spirit.. One who loves her no matter what.
I found myself thinking “Fynn” a less strong willed male, however he makes women swoon.A little like Romeo & Juliet.
Where to start …
This is my 3rd Fiona Faris book. I’ve just reached the 66% mark and I’m going to stop reading. This book, like her previous ones, uses what I call “Scottish dialect spelling” and although it’s often distracting and interrupts the flow of the story (I find I have to go back and re-read a passage to make sure I know what’s going on), in this case it’s not the most distracting aspect. The story just has TOO MUCH … too much back and forth drama – “I love him”, “I hate him” “I want him” “I can’t be with him”, etc. In order for a story to pull me in and make me care about the characters, those characters need to be multidimensional, human, flawed but likeable. Maddie comes off as a very immature and indecisive creature. Her Aunt Margaret is so focused on HER goal, that she ignores all the signs that Maddie is heading for a catastrophe. Early on in the story, they both began to really annoy me. Fyn/Ian is almost too good to be true, but he’s more believable than most of the other characters. The “bad guys” (James, the murdering Arthurs) are so bad, they are almost caricatures. Both Maddie’s father and Ian’s father ares wise and saints. So, I guess what I’m saying is this story needs better character development. Extreme characters have no staying power … this reader loses interest because there’s nothing new or deeper to learn about them by continuing to read the story. At this point, I feel like I’m wasting my time reading about something I don’t really care about. Because I recognize the amount of work and heart that goes into creating a novel, it kills me to give a poor review.
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. I wish it were a better book.
In this one, Madeleine finds herself forced to go to France to look for a husband and learn to be a lady after her mother is frustrated over her rough and tough ways and lack of interest in marrying. The story line was more original as part of the book takes place in France, and her mother is hoping for her to marry up instead of just finding some Scottish man. I enjoyed the story, but I just found it a tad bit of a culture shock reading back and forth with the Scottish and French tones, and it read more like a Victorian romance than a Scottish one to start with. It just wore me out reading, and I had to keep myself in a different frame of mind for what I’m used to reading in a highlander book. But the author keeps the suspense going, and there are lots of twists and turns, which still make it a good read.
Maddie is a fiery Scottish maiden sent to France to find a noble husband. Fyn is the highlander heir of her rival clan. They fall madly in love before she learns who he really is. There are some R rated sex scenes and an alternate suitor of great wealth and power. The dialect is a bit distracting. The plot is good but overall the story is just more of the same highlander romance I’ve seen before.
Aunt Margaret was singularly focused and a woman on a mission- not to be swayed. She acted like a tactical advisor in war games and had her game plan and sights blindly set on James. I loved that Ian had integrity and morales and insisted they both vow to marry each other if they consummated their relationship. You have to appreciate Francie’s spirit and tenacity. She was the mean girl who does what ever it takes to trap her quarry! The crying during the sword fight gutted me!! My heart ached for Ian when he said all he wanted was “family ” from Maddie- so bittersweet. I voluntarily read an advanced copy of this book and am giving an honest review.
I loved this book. It has all you could want in a book. When I read Fiona’s books,it is like being taken back into time and it is like watching a movie ,I can imagine the whole scenes and like watching Maddie riding her horse tearing through the rolling hills of her beloved Highlands.. Make sure you have plenty of time when reading this book ,because it will catch you at the beginning and not let you go until the end..
