I just loved this book. It was so well-written that it captured my mind and I was dragged along for the ride. Once I started reading I could not put it down until I read the last page.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I have been provided with a copy of Highlander’s Claim by the author for an impartial review. This is the eleventh book in The Matheson Brothers series and the second book in The Matheson Warrior series. I just absolutely loved getting to reenter this world and see characters that I had previously fallen in love with again. I was also really glad to meet some new characters and fall for them as well. This story centers around Ailith and Hunter and I just loved getting to see their journey. It was just so easy to get lost in their story and I just didn’t want to put it down. I can’t wait to see what’s next for this series.
3.5 star review:
Well written fairy tale/time travel story. Nice storyline and plot. It was not easy for me to get into the story in the beginning but that got better later on towards the middle. I could not connect with the characters first.
She meets her mate but she does not want to admit it to herself. But she finally has to and what then? Is it too late?
The story has drama, danger, emotions, twists and turns in it.
Recommendable read.
She has visions and she needs to help those in danger. She goes into the future by a portal. He sees her and he knows she is the one for him.Can she save him? Can she keep her heart safe? Follow them to find out

I love all of Joanne Wadsworth’s books! She is a master of romance! And this series is nothing less than five stars each book. I always look forward to her new releases and rereading old ones. This particular one was given to me by the author as an arc and I’m leaving an honest review.

It was hard to engage with the story at the very beginning. It was uninteresting. Then the action picked up and now our heroine, Ailith, was trying to save the life of the hero Hunter. Based on her visions, he dies in battle when he travels to the past with her. She is in his present and refuses to acknowledge that he is her mate. When she does decide they are mates, she travels to the past to bond. The bonding is stronger closer to the battle that supposed to take his life. The battle was anticlimactic. It was not as exciting as I expected it could be based on Ailith’s visions. I have read over 10 of Joanne Wadsworth’s books and have really enjoyed them. This one disappoints. This book combines several current popular themes in romance: shifters, Highlanders, time travel, and the fae. In this installment of the Matheson Brothers series, Hunter–who is a bear shifter–has been foreseen to die in Ailith’s visions. She’s an immortal fae warrior who sees upcoming battles a few days before they happen. She comes forward in time to learn which of the Matheson clan is the warrior she sees in her vision. She wants to determine who he is and protect him. Once she is in his time, they both sent a strong mate bond, but they will not know if it is true until the next full moon. She wants to deny the bond until they’re certain, but he does not want to.
Are these two soul-bound mates? Will her visions come true, or will she be able to protect him?
I found this a surprisingly interesting read. I don’t usually read shifter books as it’s not really a genre that interests me, but I was fascinated by the Highlander and fae aspects. I’m glad I chose to read it, as it was an engaging read.
The book has some of the common issues with grammar, punctuation, and usage that are seen in modern books, but it wasn’t terribly distracting in this particular story.
If you enjoy shifter romance or fae romance, you might enjoy this book.
Book eleven in The Matheson Brothers series a well-written story that had me turning pages. There is suspense, drama, danger, evil, and romance between Warrior shifter Hunter Matheson of the twenty-first century and Ailith, the granddaughter of the King of the Fae who comes from 1211 to save him. I want to read the next book in this series.
Combine time travel, love, adventure, suspense, drama, emotional situations and so much more and you have this excellent read. I just love this author’s books. They grab your attention and keep it. The heroine in this story has a gift and sees the future for one man and sets out to protect him and to stop what she has seen. I highly recommend it. I voluntarily review a copy for booksprout.
Love books with a strong female lead.
I cannot get enough of these time-travel, bear shifter romances that are so incredible. This one like the others I have read have a solid base with great flow, outstanding plot that will blow you away. Hunter our bear and Ailith a fae warrior take center stage in the book. Ailith has the ability to see visions of death and destruction before they happen and she will travel to the future to save a man she sees died. Hunter, now he is a bear with attitude! These two really need together! Loved the book it was a great read.
I am SO enjoying this series!! If you love strong heroines, sexy Highlander heroes, fantasy, magic, steamy romance, humour and more, then you’ll love this book. Ailith, the granddaughter of the King of the Fae, travels in time to the 21st century to try to protect her future mate from getting killed by the enemy. She’s had visions of his death so she needs to make him understand that he cannot go back in time with her, less he be killed but Warrior shifter Hunter Matheson refuses to leave her side. I loved their humorous exchanges, had me giggling out loud! lol There is never a dull moment in this story and I read it all in one shot, just couldn’t put it down.

Highlander’s Claim: Time Travel Romance (The Matheson Warriors Book 2) by Joanne Wadsworth is a great Time Travel Romance. While book 2, I feel, it can read as a stand alone.
This is the journey of Ailith, the granddaughter of the King of Faes and Hunter Matheson, a warrior shifter. Ailith travels through time, when needed to help her half-blooded Earthbound kind. Ailith, has the ability to see visions of war and destruction before it unfolds. Now death is coming for one of the fae warriors so she is called to protect, but in order to save him, she must first figure out who he is, and which time he hails from. Enter, Hunter Matheson, a warrior shifter. Hunter is intrigued by Ailith. She arrives through a portal into the twenty-first century, not from his world, but from the year 1211.
Slow to begin with, to me, but picks up quickly.
Well written with great world building from the past to the future. The characters are enjoyable. While a Time Travel adventure, the characters feel realistic and believable. The plot was intriguing, very interesting, captivating and flows seamlessly and effortlessly. I was held in awe after the first few pages.
Ailith and Hunter, certainly belong together, rather soul mates or not. They make a unique and interesting couple. Sparks fly off the pages from their first meeting, the reader can feel the chemistry between them. The danger, consequences, drama, romance, chemistry, feuds, war, suspense and mystery, brings HIGHLANDER’S CLAIM, to a climatic conclusion. This book has so much to offer readers, not just Time Travel fans, but fans of Highlanders, as well. The Highlands are filled with myths, folklore, legends, and more, after all. Ms. Wadsworth is a talented author, who draws readers into her stories of romance, love, Time Travel and HEAs.
Once I got into this story, which didn’t take me but a couple of pages, BTW, I was absolutely delighted. Ms. Wadsworth did a great job with her details, her characterizations, and her story development, that I was truly in awe. Strongly recommended. Well done, Ms. Wadsworth.
I received a complimentary copy, however, all opinions are my own.
