Jullianna’s past meets here future in this story. Duncan’s determination to win over Jullianna makes for an interesting tale.
What a story! Julianna goes to Scotland as envoy to form alliances for her brother. She never expected that a painting would cause so much trouble. For Duncan he has had a thing for the woman in the painting every since he was a child. Imagine his surprise when the very woman almost knocks him down in his home and turns out to be his true mate! There is so much drama going on in this story that will draw you all in and keep you mesmerized until the last page. I voluntarily agreed to receive an ARC of this book for an honest review.
4.5 stars. Ms Montgomery is really stirring the pot with this book.
This is book five of a spin-off series and it is still grabbing my attention. We are getting so many sub plots that will all hopefully get their own stories.
Julianna goes back to Scotland and England as the envoy for her brother Lucas. She is to explain what is happening and forge alliances to help fight against the Mages.
In Scotland she meets her Fated Mate and in England some ghosts are put to rest.
Nothing is ever that simple though and you will enjoy who her mate is, how he behaves and misbehaves.
We do get some very interesting characters along the way, Karim especially, a bit of other woman drama as well as some surprise information from the Mages.
We also get a couple of big surprises dropped.
I thought Julianna was a bit rude when she first arrives in Scotland, not taking into account someone else’s beliefs when she knew about them from her earlier visit 200 years previously.
I was given this book to read for an honest review but have also read it again though Kindle Unlimited.
Wickedly fierce Julianna finally meets her match!
Acting as envoy for her brother, the Alpha, Julianna returns to the UK for the first time in this century. Her memories of her previous visit in 1820 (in a nifty time-travel story from the previous book) haunt her as she copes with the inevitable passing of the people she met then. Her arrival at the castle of the Scottish Alpha reveals that she’s not only the True Mate of the Alpha’s son and heir, Duncan, but also the subject of the mysterious painting he’s been obsessed with since childhood.
Julianna resists Duncan at every turn, not convinced of either their True Mate connection or her own suitability for a long-term relationship. I loved Duncan’s single-minded pursuit of her. He’s perfectly willing and able to stand up to her as often as necessary, yet he’s right there beside her ready to fight for her when trouble finds them.
The return of the Mages forces secrets to be revealed and takes the story back across the Atlantic. The excitement and suspense in this book is well-balanced by the affectionate humor and intense passion. This is an expansive story, filling in a lot of details about the ongoing attacks by the mages, and giving us quite a few glimpses into future couples and storylines.
I really enjoy the way this author ties each of these standalone romances together into a sweeping story of epic proportions. This series is one of the best shifter series I’ve ever read, and I dare not miss a single one. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
These True Mates stories just keep getting better and better! Julianna and Duncan are a great couple…Even if she can’t tell him the truth about her portrait she feels the pull of mating she just doesn’t want to believe! This is another good one from Ms.. Montgomery.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book. This series keeps getting better and better. This time the story leads the reader back to the UK – No time-travelling this time, when Duncan, heir of the scotish Clan is struck by lightning when first meeting Julianna, sister to the New York Alpha… Such a lovely story. But don’t forget about the mages, that try to make a move again along the way as well. You have all the drama of an enlarged family. Pregnancies, kidnappings and all the other stuff – absolutely wonderful.
I have loved all of the True Mates books and the second generation is no exception. Great characters, old and new. Couldn’t put it down.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC copy of this book
Romance for some may be a passing thing. They experienced it and now they don’t wanna read about it. For some, it’s a type of passion you have burning inside you for all time. That light may dim a little from time to time, but passion, real romance doesn’t die off.
No matter how many times I read romance, I still get so excited about the story itself just like we all love to hear how our favorite couples, friends, met. I love reading romance and every story is different. We may see similar patterns here and there. But, all in all, romance is new and exciting.
Duncan and Julianna were definitely one of the favorites. Mostly because it was so smooth. The passion was there but you couldn’t really see the moment where Julianna stopped fighting. She just did. It was hidden. And then it hit her like a ton of bricks when she was about to lose him.
As far as I can see, romance is always ready to surprise you. Love especially.
I didn’t think I would enjoy another series like I did the ‘True Mates’. Then I read the ‘Lone Defenders’, ‘Blackstone Mountain’ and now this. So apparently, it’s Ms. Montgomery’s writing that I’ve become addicted to. All of her stories bring a level of love and loyalty, to family, friends, clan and mates alike, that exceeds so many others. Julianna and Duncan’s book did not stray from that. There is also no repetition in how these pairings come about. However, a twist was thrown in recently. There are certain Lycans that recognize their ‘true mates’ immediately. Duncan happens to be one of them. Beginning their journey in Scotland, accent and kilt included, this sets the stage for a great romance. However, the last thing Julianna is looking for is a mate. She also has a secret that cannot be revealed. But she is having a hard time ignoring her feelings. Still, Duncan will definitely have to ‘woo’ her. The mages are back and stronger than they’ve been. An emotional journey for Julianna. The ‘past’ is haunting her. Duncan is patient, but everyone has a breaking point. The romance was sweet and hot. The banter between them, hilarious. Action, drama and mystery included. Alliances are being built. New characters were introduced. And it wouldn’t be complete without a few surprises thrown in. The epilogue was such a tease. The wait for the next book will be a difficult one. All said, I couldn’t put it down. This is my voluntary opinion of an advanced copy I received. You’re in for a wild ride. Don’t forget to buckle up!
Julianna and Duncan’s story is full of drama, surprises, romance and enough mystery to make you want the next book right now. This whole series is great. Every True Mate is revealed in a different manner and it is great to read each love story as it unfolds, they are never straight forward but they are always steamy and unpredictable.
I think what I enjoy most about Alicia Montgomery’s books, that I don’t get from most of the other things I read, are the adventure and fantasy. Things happen in her stories that are just crazy, and she takes you on a journey. While you can basically read each book as stand alones in the series and not be totally lost, I suggest reading them in order, and definitely reading the previous book before this one.
Julianna is an independent tough chick who isn’t looking for her happy ever after. It found her anyways. Duncan has a yummy accent, a confidence in himself and what they have, but he’s honest and good. And I love how he shows her he will support her strengths and not hold her back.
So much going on, with the mages, and the past being revealed, and before you know it- boom. Finished this in a day. Dang it, I hate when I’m so into something I finish it immediately. But it was that good.
Really enjoyed reading Duncan and Julianna’s story. Very well written and an engaging storyline that kept me intrigued from beginning to end. This is one to read. I received a free copy of the book and I am voluntarily leaving a review
