This is not your light-hearted Scottish romance it is very serious being set in 1742 you will find a man setting out to complete a promise he made. Gowan Dunbar is that man who has seen battle and death now journeys to fulfill the promise made. You will enjoy it when Morna and Gowan first meet. This is their story and it is a tale worth telling it was such a pleasure spending time with Morna and Gowan in this well-written tale. A very different style than I expected. I liked that. Great storyline and plot. Likeable well defined characters. It is sweet, romantic but also very sad to read. A mix of promises, drama, emotions, twists and love. A couple that has a great chemistry but they have to fight really hard to get their mutual HEA. Can they get through all the struggle that is thrown at them?
Recommendable read which is entertaining and captivating.
I was honored to read this book. It is a great story and quite entertaining and engaging there are totally unexpected scenes, twist and turns with realistic details.
A well written story that held my interest throughout, some places in the story had me laughing especially at the children. Gowan Dunbar sets out to keep a promise he made to a friend to look after his sister Morna. The story flows smoothly from page to page.I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
The good storyline and the well rounded characters made this book a real pleasure to read! I was so invested in this story that I ended up reading this book in one sitting!
This is sweet, romantic and sad. Gowan left to fight in a war after he lost his family and home. When his buddy Robert died he promised to take care of Morna, Robert’s sister. Morna has always been headstrong and willful, so by the time Gowan gets there she’s engaged to a man older than her father. The two quickly form an attachment, but have to run if they want to be together. They don’t have it easy, but they’re determined to be together.

This was a very different type of romance and I liked it very much. Our hero Gowan vowed before his best friend Robert died that he would look after his sister Morna. I enjoyed reading about Morna. She is spirited, lively and knows how to defend herself. She is kind and can be quite sentimental. Gowan is a man of honor. He is honest and as independent as he knows his place. It was amusing to read how Morna and Gowan were constantly at odds physically and emotionally, fighting their attraction to each other. This is a sweet romance, hard fought and has an HEA. This was a delightful quick read and held my attention from start to finish. Morna is headstrong and would love nothing better than to do what she wants to do, without the interference of her father. Gowan, who befriended her brother on the battlefield and promised him he’d look after Morna, doesn’t quite know what to make of her when he first meets her! It doesn’t take long, though, before they fall in love and face many trials and tribulations before getting their HEA. Well written and fast paced. I had to giggle at the ending….what goes around comes around!
