Taken back in time.
Highland Steel, by Elizabeth Rose. I was impressed by this book. I think the author did a good job with the description of a number of things in the book. This gave it that extra visualization that I needed while reading. I did though, find it a little hard to imagine a love scene between Rhoswen and Logan.
Picturing a young woman under the age of Twenty four, having a love scene with an older gentleman worked against my focus of that particular scene. That’s my only scratch about the book. I found the dialogue among the characters interesting and somewhat humorous. The drama is definitely intimidating among the characters. As in the beginning, it took a moment for me to warm up to the book.
But as I continued to go further the story didn’t seem slow at all. For me the story seemed to pick up with a quick pace. The book was a very entertaining read. For me the book is a page turner. The Romance between Rhoswen and Logan was very cute and sweet.
Hands down to the writer for incorporating the animals into the story. I think it gave the book that added touch of a good read.
Logan- Aiden and Effie’s son- has his trusty wolf. Feels guilty for the sword of triumph that was stolen.
Rhoswen- was travailing with her father and siblings to the highlands to retrieve her nephew when they were attack and father with his guards killed.
I enjoyed reading and listing to this captivating story that drew me with it’s magnificent characters intriguing/ witty dialogue and an unique story line. Their story has a loving hea!
Very good read about love, vengeance, retribution, and the meaning of family. It is as good as the rest of the series. I received an ARC of this book.
Highland Steel
The Highland Chronicles #3
Elizabeth Rose
Lady Rhoswen Asquith is English and accompanies her father and siblings on a harrowing journey to the Highlands under false pretences. They are setting out on an important and dangerous mission, but all is not what it seems. The plan is to save her baby nephew from her late sister’s murdering husband, Ranulph Drummond. Along the way her English escorts have been attacked and many are dead including her father who is gravely injured. Now that the only item that they had left with to barter for her nephews release has been stolen, she and her siblings are left without any escorts and stranded in Scotland.
Logan MacKeefe travels with his pet wolf at his side and his sword in his hand. He always goes to the local tavern however he has been thrown out today because his wolf stole a chicken right out of the soup pot. Needing a few minutes of peace and solitary he decides to bath in the bay and then sun on a rock to dry off. But before he really gets the chance to relax he is shocked to see a bonnie lassie on a horse that comes crashing through the bushes, heading straight for the water. He grabs the horses reins stopping it in the nick of time.
Rhoswen begs him to help her dying father and never being one to not help a female in distress, Logan agrees, becoming her and her siblings protector. But before her father dies she is truly dismayed to find out the real reasons for this trip to Scotland and she is not happy about it at all. Now Logan has found himself in the middle of a very harrowing situation, since she wants him to take her to his enemy’s den.
Will Logan go along with this plan of action or will he say no it ends here? And if he does go will he fall in love with one of the most beautiful lassies that he has ever had the pleasure of knowing?
Elizabeth Rose has outdone herself once again. This book is utterly fabulous and I enjoyed it immensely. I really enjoyed how these books are a spin off from the original series. The two main characters were not only brave it was like they were made for each other. She was spunky and he was fearless. I read this book in no time at all as once I started reading I just couldn’t put it down until it was finished. I can’t wait to see what Ms. Rose comes up for us next.
Highland Steel is another action-packed adventure about the lives and loves of the MacKeefe Clan. This story features Logan MacKeefe and Rhoswen Asquith, an English noblewoman. Rhoswen thought the family was traveling to the Drummond Clan to exchange a valuable sword, which was taken when they were attacked by bandits, for her nephew. It turns out her father had more in mind. When Rhoswen’s father dies, Logan, along with his cousins and their pets, brings her and her siblings to the Mackeefe Camp. From there, Logan and Rhoswen embark on a mission to find the sword and rescue her nephew. Do they succeed?
This exciting story is full of drama, danger, secrets, and surprises. There is also some humor and passion. The strong and protective Logan and the feisty and independent Rhoswen are a great match. It was nice to have characters from previous stories; to visit with this large devoted family. I enjoyed Highland Steel. It is an excellent addition to the Highland Chronicles and to the Mackeefe saga.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
Rhoswen is an English pampered miss that is torn between what she should do after her father is killed and her sister and brother are depending on her to take care of them. She wants her orphaned nephew because the man, Drummond, that holds him killed her sister when her was duped into marrying her when she was already pregnant.
Logan holds guilt of losing the sword that belonged to his clan when he was caught with Drummond’s daughter and she was killed.
Logan doesn’t want to care about Rhoswen, but he falls for her and she for him.
Will he help her or will he convince her to leave Drummond alone so they don’t go to war with him again?
Insta-Love.
Logan MacKeefe falls for a Yorkshire lass who he rescues when her horse runs away with her but her desire to rescue her nephew from the Drummonds may lead to trouble for his Clan.
Another story about a member of the MacKeefe Clan and well worth the read for fans of this series. Rhoswen Asquith is a feisty young woman who knows how to wield a sword and a fitting mate for the son of a Madman MacKeefe. Enjoyable story about family love and loyalty.
This book can be read as a standalone.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from the author. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I really enjoyed reading Logan’s story! Logan comes to the rescue of Lady Rhoswen, whose father and guards were attacked by brigands while traveling to the Highlands of Scotland. Her father, Sir Joseph Asquith, has been critically injured. With Lady Rhoswen are Newell, her father’s squire as well as her handmaiden, Blaine. Upon Sir Joseph’s deathbed, he reveals some horrifying secrets about her older sister and her sister’s husband, Lord Drummond, a man who has boasted of killing his Sassenach wife and is known for his extreme cruelty. Sir Joseph begs Rhoswen to fulfill his wish of killing the man who has killed his eldest daughter, and retrieving a famous sword he had previously stolen from the King of England as a bargaining tool, but was stolen from him when he was attacked. There are some major underlying concerns about what has caused Lord Drummond to murder his own wife upon the birth of her son.
Lady Rhoswen is desperately wanting to rescue her nephew from the hands of Lord Drummond. As an Englishwoman, she and her companions are not welcomed by the MacKeefe clan, not only because they are English, but also because of her desire to reach their sworn enemy, Lord Ranulph Drummond.
As Lady Rhoswen falls in love with Logan MacKeefe, their lives begin to intertwine, the legend of the infamous sword is revealed. As the MacKeefe clan comes to trust Lady Rhoswen, their desire to retrieve the mighty sword makes it easy for the clan to assist her in recovery of the sword and find revenge upon Lord Drummond.
There are many twists and turns in this story, and the outcome of everything is up in the air.

An exciting adventure that will ensnare you in the first page with Logan MacKeefe and his wolf, Jack. He is approach by an English lass, Rhoswen and her siblings who have just been attacked and her father almost dead. She is frantic for his help as they race back to see if her father still lives. He is but not of this world for long but he tells her of a secret that changes everything. She must find a special sword, to use as a bargaining tool to get back something precious to their family.
But it would be dangerous and she needed Logan and his clan to help her. But what she needed was in the hands of the enemy, the Drummond clan.
Elizabeth Rose triumphs again with a story that is filled with her fabulous storytelling words that always pull me into the story. Humor, danger, a strong hero and an equally strong heroine bring this through many twist and turns to a sigh worthy ending. Wonderful!
After her father and guards are killed on the way to Scotland, Lady Rhoswen and her siblings are continuing on there mission, to save her sisters son from the clan Drummond.
They meet up with Logan MacKeefe and asks him for help and he takes them to the MacKeefe camp. Soon Logan and Rhoswen develop feelings for each other.
When an opportunity arises to get into the Drummond’s keep unseen, Rhoswen takes it. But she soon runs in to danger. Logan decides to help Rhoswen, but finds she left the safety of the camp. Will Logan be able to save her?
I haven’t read a medieval romance for a while and had forgotten how nice it is to read a book full of action, suspense and of course romance. Ms Rose knows how to draw you in and want to keep turning the page. The characters were well written and it’s nice to have past characters involved in the story. There was a couple of sex scenes and this reviewer, as usual, skipped them and it didn’t affect my enjoyment of the book. I received this as an ARC and freely give my review.
Highland Steel

I absolutely loved Logan and Roswan’s story. Roswan Asqwin and her siblings Blaine and Newell are attacked while traveling and their father and guards are killed. They are found by Logan, Caleb, and Aiden Mackeefe, sons of the Madmen Mackeefe and they take them back to the Mackeefe camp. Before Roswan’s father succumbs to his injuries, he confesses to her that her older sister Ailsa was already pregnant when he betrothed her to Rannaulth Drummund, chieftain of the Drummond clan. Drummond found out that the child was not his and they were told that she was murdered by him. It was Roswan’s father’s intention to trade a sword for her sister’s baby, Lockie. He told her that’s the sword belong to King Richard and that he stole it from him, when in actuality it was a sword that Logan lost that belong to his clan. Logan was involved with Drummonds daughter and lost the sword of triumph, which both clans believed was a Lucky sword in which the clan that was in possession of it could never lose a battle. Roswan’s father wanted her to kill Drummond and retrieve the sword. She was trying to get the Mackeefe clan to assist her in this endeavor. However the chieftain, Storm Mackeefe, told Logan that they could not stay there because they would bring trouble. However Logan could not find it in his heart to tell them to leave. Storm would not agree to help in their mission until they found out that the sword in question was the sword of triumph. Roswan decided to hide in the merchants wagon to infiltrate the Drummonds fortress to see if she could sneak her nephew out of the keep. She ended up getting captured and Logan, Caleb, Aiden oh, and the rest of the Mackeefe clan had to rescue her. She ended up fighting Drummond one on one for the sword of triumph.
I liked Logan and Roswan’s story because there was a lot of swordplay in it and the plot was exciting. The lead female character was a very strong character and wasn’t a typical simpering female. She gave as good as she got.p there was always something happening in the plot. It was never boring. I tuned in just to see what each of their pets were going to do next. but mostly I like the fact that even though they drove each other to distraction they still stood by one another. I like this one the best of the three Highland Chronicles. I am looking forward to reading the conclusion.
Well written and full of action and interesting characters. Part of a series but easily a standalone. Logan MacKeefe finds Rhoswen and her siblings after and attack left everyone else in their party dead. Her father survives long enough for her to learn some ugly truths. She decides she has to rescue her nephew from Clan Drummond which clan MacKeefe wants nothing to do with until they learn it involves the Sword of Triumph. Danger, surprises and a happy ending follow.
Not only is the cover gorgeous, the story is absolutely riveting!! I have to say this is one of my favorite Elizabeth Rose novels.
Rhoswen and her siblings find themselves homeless in Scotland after their father succumbs to his injuries caused by the bandits who attacked them on the road. What her father tells Rhoswen, just before he takes his last breath, will change her life forever. A special sword must be found and what follows is full of adventure, doubts, twists and turns, and heated passions.
Logan finds himself torn between helping Rhoswen and the safety of his clan. I loved his character and it’s so perfect that he has a pet wolf named Jack:) I loved the humor between him and his friends, some of the scenes sure did make me chuckle.
All in all, this story is very well written and kudos to the author for writing such a wonderful book for us to read. I received an ARC of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest revie
Could not get into it. Didn’t finish
I love anything by Elizabeth Rose.
This book was entertaining and the characters enjoyable, but it felt rushed and I didn’t feel like it was realistic enough. I would have liked to have seen some aspects of the plot fleshed out a little more.
I received a free copy in exchange for my honest review.
