Strength is not always measured by physical prowess!
Spring has been raised as a warrior, always trying to please her Scottish father of Viking descent. Through the years she’s tried to be the son he wished her to be. At a young age she’s chosen the bow and arrows as her weapon and has now mastered the skill. Growing up without a mother, the only skill … skill. Growing up without a mother, the only skill she hasn’t learned is how to someday be a mother to children. To her dismay, her father decides to marry her to their enemy, Shaw Gordon, as a ploy to get inside his castle and claim it as their own.
Chieftain Shaw Gordon is a widower with two boys and one unruly adolescent daughter. He decides it’s time to take a wife again, but never expects to be presented with his enemy’s daughter. The woman is fierce, and nothing like the mother he wants for his children. The Gunn clan has been an enemy of the Gordons for as long as he can remember. While an alliance would be good, he still doesn’t trust them.
Can two enemies push aside their differences for the benefit of all? And can a woman draw strength from herself as well as from her new husband when she discovers the horrible secret of her past, that her entire life is nothing but a lie?

As with all of Elizabeth Rose’s stories, you know you are in for an adventurous and emotional tale. A warrior, Spring Gunn has not grown up with the niceties of life. Although one of the best warriors of her father’s Clan Gunn, she has never been treated well by her sire. Unexpectedly, her father decides to marry her off to enemy clansman, Shaw Gordon, in order to get inside his castle walls and basically spy on him. Shaw is a widower with small children and only agrees to marry Spring in order to obtain her weapons that were made by him and his father. Can you image marrying a stranger and being thrown into enemy camp? Spring just wants to be loved and have a real home and feel safe, which she has not felt all her life. As her new life begins, she is torn on what she should do as her feelings start to be engaged by her new family. Full of secrets, betrayals and danger, this story will take you through a web that will make you turn the pages as fast as possible. You will not be able to put it down! This book was gifted to me.
This well-constructed complicated story follows Spring and those around her as she learns who she is, what she wants, and where she belongs. It is a tale of deceit and betrayal, of secrets and lies, and of discovery and love. The characters in this story are well developed, some new, and some already familiar. Spring and Shaw are great together. Gunn and his crew are strong, but that strength is evil, not honorable. The secondary characters flesh out the story. The children are instrumental in the changes we see in Spring as the story unfolds. Nairnie’s part in the story is essential and adds a little humor. There are twists, turns, and surprises all through the story, but the biggest and best is at the end. A superb job of narration by Brian J. Gill. Another great story from Elizabeth Rose.
I love Elizabeth Roses’ stories. They suck you in get you involved and looking forward to the next in the series. Highland Spring is the beginning of a series about four sister’s who have the names of seasons. Great read.
I really loved the characters; it was fun to read
Nice to see a woman in a different role.
First book I’ve read by this author and now I’m hooked. Well worth your time. Liked her historical accuracy.
After reading many of this series, I am happy to say that this is my favourite. It is the first in the series of sisters but brings in other characters from other stories and stories to come setting the pace for many hours of enjoyable reading. I found myself very wrapped up in the characters, at one time with tears in my eyes, something that doesn’t happen often. Ms Rose developed the characters so that you felt for them and their situation and wanted only the best for them. I also enjoy the way Ms Rose puts detail into a certain aspect of life, in this book it is how bow and arrows are made. The story line was developed well, with adventure, humor, suspense and surprise. Plenty to keep you reading. A very good place to start the series and you will want to continue on to Summers Reign
After Spring is forced to marry to form a fake alliance, she finds out that she was stolen as a baby, and her whole life has been a lie. Now, she has to determine where her allegiance should lie – with the man and clan who raised her, or to her husband and newly found birth family. Great story. Received a copy of this book from the author.
I won a copy of this and i received it yesterday. As soon as i got it downloaded i started listening to it and I couldn’t stop until I was done. Spring is a women that is a true warrior and she learns that love can come when we are not looking for it and that true family excepts us for who we are. I loved this story and think that it had everything in it that made the story great. Love, hate, betrayal, family, hope and of course fighting for honor of family. If anyone is looking for a great book to get this one is a must read. Great Job Elizabeth Rose – Author I look forward to reading more.
Wonderful Historical Romance!!! Fast-paced, action filled with great characters. This story has substance with a touch of steamy passion too!! Well done!!
I loved this book. I loved how the characters evolved and love triumphs overall. The obstacles they face and come together in the end. Spring shows herself to be true to herself and is the perfect balance to the lonely laird.
Love this series – I realized near the end that I had read Summer’s Reign and went back and re-read it!
Good story but would have been better without so much sex.
I love reading romantic highland books. I just prefer no steamy situations.
I enjoyed this story as well as the other stories of her family.
Strong characters. Great story.
Summer raised to be a warrior . Her father tells her to marry their clans enemy so he can take the castle over. While with her husband she tries winning his kids over and while doing so some secrets come to pass to reveal themselves. Can she betray the family she just came to love
Great story this author writes with characters that seem to come alive as the pages turns.
Elizabeth Rose brings us an engaging read with Spring, the first offering in her Seasons of Fortitude series. We have a woman raised as a highland warrior, a widower with two sons and a daughter, who is chieftain and laird of a neighboring clan, and enough action and adventure to keep our interest until the last page is read. A very enjoyable highland romance. Thank you Ms. Rose.
I wanted to love this book, but I could never understand why she had to change so completely. Why did she have to wear a dress EVERY day to be accepted? Why couldn’t her husband come to love her for who she was, not for who he wanted her to be? I didn’t like this primary message that the main character could only be loved fully if she completely abandoned who she was at her core.
I thought the plot was a little silly. But I did finish it.
