This book is an example of why I love reading historical romances so much! I absolutely loved Lachlan and Maggie’s story, so much goes on from the time they meet until they finally reach their HEA. Lori Ann Bailey writes this story so well, you can feel every emotion the characters feel and you can picture everything in your mind.
Lachlan is the type of hero I fall in love with every time and Maggie is the type of heroine that I adore. Both of them together makes for an explosive relationship filled with heated passions but secrets tend to have them not trusting each other and that leads to many misunderstandings.
I had a hard time putting this book down when I was needed elsewhere, the story just sucks you in from beginning to end. I definitely look forward to reading more of Lori Ann Bailey’s books, her style of writing is exactly what I look for in a historical romance.
I received an ARC of this book via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
I finished this in two days and it follows the format of hate each other and then can’t resist each other and possibly a follow-up book.
Enjoyed every chapter!
If you enjoy reading about the Scottish highlanders as much as I do with a bit of the brogue included then this easy to read romantic novel is pure
Delight .
I generally like Scottish romances, read a lot of them, and enjoy ones, such as this one, that have an unusual story. Fresh, innovative, not too predictable.
Maggie is on the run from a very dangerous man! Her betrothed! He has made it clear how he is going to treat her both in bed and out in the open! He is a cruel pig! Just before her wedding she runs off. She comes upon men fighting and when one gets hurt she jumps into action! Having learned the art of healing Maggie saves a powerful Laird’s brother. Lachlan doesn’t know if Maggie is friend or foe. She hides in boy’s clothing and doesn’t explain her intentions or reveals her identity. He trusted a lass once before and it ended badly so he has vowed never to do so again. He has bigger problems too, he is protecting a lad who has proof of a murder and that there is a conspiracy going on! He needs to get the lad and proof to safety and into the hands of the other chieftains! When he finds out the traitor/murderer is none other than Maggie’s betrothed he thinks she is a spy. She has already fallen in love and must prove she is innocent and worthy. He realizes almost to late and now he must convince Maggie he is worthy. Lachlan is just the Highlander to do it.
I loved this book so much! Maggie is fleeing her home to escape an unwanted marriage to a known abuser. When she witnesses a fight from a hidden spot she sees someone seriously wounded and springs into action to save his life. It turns out that he is Lachlan’s brother, but she cannot tell anyone who she is for fear that she will be returned home. Lachlan protects her but is suspicious of her motives, and the story only gets better from there.
This story is fast paced with lots of action and wonderful romance. The characters are well-developed and so interesting. I was totally engaged in the story from the moment I started it right up until the last page. A very exciting and well-developed story that enthralled and excited me, and at one point I was so emotionally involved with the hero and heroine that it brought me to tears. Happy tears? I will not say, but I will say that you will not regret reading this story. It’s wonderful!

Only animals especially horses does she feel comfortable and at peace with herself. So when the shy lass opens up to heartbreak, she exiles herself from family and the clan she loves! It is only the day after he broke her heart and rejected her.
As it has been years since they lived under the same roof. Is it too little too late, or can they ever reveal the truth and the real reasons for their past difficulties, dilemma, and complications? Not to mention each of them are putting themselves in explicit danger snooping and investigating an enemy clan. This could result in torture and death for both Kirstie and Alan.
As Alan was always trying to do the right thing she being his best friends sister. Not to mention he feels he is protecting her from him and the monster he inherited from his father! Plus he still feels he would be dangerous to any woman. It was the Camerons that took him in as a lad. How could he betray them by lusting after their daughter/sister? In other words spying and gaining the enemies trust. This is for secret information, snooping and investigating. As an enemy clan that wants to to harm to the Cameron clan leaders. A fabulous summer read that historical romance readers don’t want to miss. It’s the third novel in her Highland Pride series. It can be read as a stand alone book as her previous books in this series. This phenomenal novel is so wonderfully incredible!
A second chance romance story with true historical facts. It has all the elements historical romance readers love! Emotional passionate love story, historical facts and issues between Royals and Covenanters. It is an exciting adventure, misunderstandings, complications, betrayal, threats, rejection, heartbreak, murdering schemes, rekindling love, passion, and so much more. The setting, plotting, dialogue characters are all absolutely superb! I was holding my breath in this twisting and turning trail, not knowing what could possibly happen next!
