From the moment he first sees Sela Seton, Connor Grant is drawn to the woman known as the Ice Queen. Although his cousins assume she’s as guilty as the men she serves, the unscrupulous smugglers of the Channel of Dubh, Connor is convinced she’s being coerced. His mother was abused and controlled, and he suspects the same is true of Sela. For five years, Sela has known only misery, with one … with one exception: her sweet daughter, Claray. But her love for her bairn has been used against her in the worst way possible—the men who run the Channel use Claray to ensure Sela does their bidding. The last thing she’s liable to do is trust a man, any man, let alone fall in love with one. But Connor Grant is the son of the great Alexander Grant, and he’s every bit as fierce, noble, and protective as his sire.
If Sela helps Connor and his cousins, they stand a chance at crushing the nefarious Channel of Dubh once and for all. But what does the future hold for Sela and Connor if they succeed? Is a second chance at life possible for someone who’s been forced to do horrible things?

Ms. Montclair has given a wonderful gift to the readers of her series with the conclusion of the Band of Cousins series. Once again she has created dynamic characters who evoke emotions … the reader is able to feel love, hope, fear, forgiveness, and happiness, all wrapped up in a novel that focuses on the importance of guidance and strength provided by one’s family. Anyone familiar with the Grant and Ramsay clans will want to read this moving addition to Ms. Montclair’s series. I look forward to reading further books as the next generation is brought to life!
I have enjoyed the entire series, but this book is one of the best!
Highland Brawn by Keira Montclair
Band of Cousins Series Book Eight
Connor Grant doesn’t understand his need to find the woman who is involved in the Channel of Dubh. He just doesn’t believe she’s the Ice Queen she shows herself to be. He believes there is a deeper reason why she’s involved. And he’s determined to find that reason and help get her out of there.
Sela Seton is so full of guilt. She hadn’t realized all that the Channel was involved in until recently. And even though she hates what she’s done and what they’re continuing to make her do…she has no choice. And no hope. Even though a part of her wants to believe there are good men who could help…like the handsome Highlander.
The finale to this series was incredible. I always enjoy “seeing” the characters from previous books, especially Alexander Grand and Logan Ramsey. The villains are nasty men who need doing away with. Good thing the heroes can do that. Loved this series!

This was an excellent finish to a fantastic series. We have seen Sela and Connor through out the series and to see their story come together with an end to the Chanel abductors made for an exciting read. This book had everything you would expect from Ms Monclair, suspense, adventure, tragedy, humor and romance. I found this every hard to put down and was glad it wasn’t too long. The final ending, which included all the families was the perfect ending. There was a few sex scenes but this reviewer skipped them and it didn’t affect my enjoyment of the book. I received this book as an ARC and was happy to review.
Keira Montclair, please take a bow, as you have put together a wonderful, emotional, final story in the Band of Cousins Series. This was the best one I have read since the original Grant & Ramsay leaders & I will feel the emotion in this story for a long time to come.
Connor is the exact image of his father, Laird Alex Grant, the Highlander legend. Those are big shoes to fill & Connor did it with fierceness, strategy, love, humor & determination! Sela has been forced to work for the Channel of Dubh – they are blackmailing her by threatening to hurt her young daughter. Connor & Sela’s journey sucks you in to the book & you cannot leave until “The End”.
I loved the Grant & Ramsay Clans came together to defeat & finally end the Channel of Dubh. I have finally quit crying sad & happy tears & I highly recommend this book & all of series’ based around the two clans. I was gifted the Advanced Reader Copy of this book; all opinions are my own & have been voluntarily given.
I cannot recommend this series enough. All three related series are some of the best I have ever read. If you love highland romance, you won’t find any better. There are some that are just as good, but I don’t think they are any better.
