I usually a sucker for continuing series. I jumped on this one because it sounded promising, with a few of the books out already. After making it through this first book, I’m not sure whether or not I will continue on.
The characters in this book are vapid and very hard to like. They are all self-absorbed and one-dimensional. Now, this could be intentional, but then again, all of their negative qualities are written in such an exaggerated way, I struggled with most of the book.
The plot itself isn’t so bad. But like I said, the characters pretty much did me in. The ending should have been a huge cliffy… It’s not. It just kind of ends, leaving you knowing there will be more. I was pretty disappointed.
I will say, things in the book picked up a little, which is why the middle of the road rating instead of a lower one. I found myself intrigued here and there in the second half. I might venture to the next book at some point.
A new series from this author with a bit of a slow start. Fiona is the daughter of a very rich man with a stepbrother who doesn’t like her very much and is very jealous. The two just don’t get along. Alex who is her father’s bodyguard has caught her eye and she has his. What will her father think if he finds out they are sneaking around? When a sex tape of the two of the come to light thanks to Jack her stepbrother, will what he wants pull them apart?? What happens when murder is involved. It’s a good story but as I said a very slow start so be patient.
I can’t decide how I feel about this one.
Fiona is daddy’s little girl who gets caught on tape having sex with her dad’s bodyguard. Her step brother uses that against her to have her become an escort in his club.
Jack the step brother is a world class douche. He allows his friends to do whatever they want to his step sister because she’s gets everything and he gets nothing.
I really needed Fiona to be stronger than she is. She’s playing the victim.
All the possible characters are here for the Who dun it.
Alex the ex bodyguard turned detective.
Lucy the bff that forgot about her friend and is jealous of her lifestyle. Her boyfriend, either one.
I love the twist of the cards being the clues to who killed him.
Look forward to book two.
This is an honest voluntary review.
Blackmailed by her stepbrother. This is a great beginning of a new series. It starts with Fiona getting caught on tape doing something that her father would hate. It also could mean the life of the other she was with. Her stepbrother gets the tape and blackmails her into doing whatever he wants. He has her working in a exclusive club where she is in the VIP room and does whatever his friends or members want! She finds out that it’s dangerous as she gets drugged and remembers nothing! What will she do and what more will her stepbrother do next! I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
A dark beginning
I liked the subtitle which suggests a lot for the story: tit’s not about the cards you’ve been dealt. It’s how you play your hand.
Fiona comes from a wealthy family and lives with her divorced father whom she adores and for whom she would do anything. She hates her former half-brother (by marriage), Jack, who has a club where she and her friend Lucy would like to go out. But the exit allows Jack to film her when she seduces Alex, a police officer. Jack has a very dark side and he is going to manipulate Fiona into his flesh, using him sexually for his club, and blackmailing Alex so that he lets him continue his activity in his dirty establishment.
The story is a bit difficult to read and you can see the transformation of the frivolous Fiona in this world she discovers. However, it remains strong despite the heaviness of the events it undergoes. The story is far from romantic, and it sinks, full of twists, but at the same time there is always hope for Fiona, especially in the last chapter before the cliffhanger.

This had a bit of a slow start for me and Fiona being spoiled and immature also didn’t help.
But I’m so glad I pushed through it because second part was amazing! Once the story picked up I became so engaged I couldn’t put it down. I can’t wait to see what will happen next! Despite the slow start I think this series is shaping to be my favorite from this author!
I voluntarily read and honestly reviewed an advanced copy of this book I received from author.
I loved it, Great start to what promises to be another awesome series from this author, oh the deception you know your going to love a series when you feel automatic disdain for certain characters cause they’re just so hateful. Fiona Wilde has everything she could possibly want however her stepbrother caught her in an act that her father would definitely not approve of and blackmails the bodyguard to resign from his beloved Job an uses her at his club. Five years later her dad is Murdered who would kill a dying man? I received this as an ARC and voluntarily choose to reveiw.
Fiona is caught on tape with her father’s body guard, Alex, having sex. Her father would get rid of Alex if he knew. Fiona’s stepbrother, Jack, has the tape and will make her do what he wants to keep the tape secret. Jack has her work as a dancer/escort at his night club. The novel keeps you interested from the beginning. It ends with you wanting more.
A thrilling mystery adventure
Fiona, a rich daddy’s girl, and Alex, her father’s bodyguard, are each dealing with events that have created problems. As the story progresses things get out of control, harsh reality comes crashing down, and dealing with the fallout may be the least of their worries. WL Knightly has once again started the reader on a thrilling mystery adventure in Highest Ranking. I don’t know whether I love or hate the fact that all of the books will end in a cliffhanger. I just know that I love the start of the VIP Club series and hate that I have to wait for the clues and conclusion. Reader discretion advised due to dark subject matter and/or possible triggers.
Once this story gets rolling, it really doesn’t stop for anything until the end. The first part of this book goes to some very dark places and should probably come with a trigger warning. I know I found it very difficult to get enough emotional distance from the story to get to the “5 years later”. I came very close to setting the book aside and not finishing it. But once we were able to jump ahead in time, I absolutely couldn’t put it down. Now, I’m a little desperate to find out what’s really going on and learn if Fiona gets her man… and the killer.
I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book from the author.
Once I started this book, I did not want to put it down. Fiona starts out as a spoiled, immature, little rich girl, whose best assets are her looks which makes her completely annoying. She is living the dream until her douche of a stepbrother gets some dirt on her and her father’s bodyguard that sets in motion a blackmail scheme that spans years. I enjoyed the book. I know I was completely invested in the story because I yelling at Fiona for being a doormat after such a brave front and at Alex for being easily swayed and Jack for being a douche. There is definitely a lot a room for growth with Fiona and some serious excitement with the murder mystery. I look forward to the next book and hope to see Fiona start to come into her own. I recommend giving this start to a new series a try.
Ooh the deception! The VIP Club Series is full of shady players, anyone hiding an Ace up their sleeve, a Wilde card has just been dealt. I’m all in, the deck has been stacked, and who put these jokers in charge? I’m addicted to the story of these high rollers, cheats and rogues. So, so good and I’m wanting more.
Fiona is daddy’s little girl, her mother died when she was young and her father pulled her through it. He remarried and adopted his new wife’s son…Jack. She has never been able to trust him, but this time he holding something over her head. Fiona is forced into a lifestyle she would never choose, to keep those she treasures the most and her secrets safe. Her daddy would play cards and tell her stories about her great grandmother. He gives her cryptic advice and a precious gift which holds the clues to his murderer.
Jack is a controlling, jealous ba$tard, who wants ownership of his stepfathers company. He has no conscience and will do anything for a dollar, without a blink of an eye. One thing is certain, Jack is not bluffing. His new club is a huge hit and the VIP floor is booming. Where privileged men go to play games and money can buy you anything. He’s soulless, self indulgent and I can’t wait to see him fold.
