A big Irish knight, much beloved by his English men, faces his biggest challenge when an injury nearly claims his life… and his confidence as a warrior. A USA Today Bestseller 4/25/18!The man known as the “High Warrior” is an Irish knight with an English overlord. Sir Bric MacRohan serves the House of de Winter as the head of the de Winter war machine. He is big, loud, and fearless.Once the most … fearless.
Once the most aggressive, all-powerful knight in the realm, a great injury forces Bric to realize that he is, indeed, mortal. Though he recovers from the injury, it changes how he commands his men and how he handles himself in battle. Mentally, his is far more injured than he is, physically.
Enter Lady Eiselle de Gael. The daughter of a bastard of the Earls of East Anglia, Eiselle is ‘gifted’ to Bric by a very dear friend as a reward for saving the man’s life. The lady is resigned, but Bric is positively adverse. He doesn’t see it as a reward; he sees it as a punishment.
But what they didn’t expect was how much they would come to love each other.
When the greatest swordsman that England has ever seen lays down his weapon due to battle fatigue, it’s up to Eiselle and those who love Bric to help the man regain his confidence as a warrior, and to once again do what he was born to do. Men like Sean de Lara… Dashiell du Reims… and many more recognizable knights from Le Veque’s Medieval world all pull together to help Bric recover what he has lost… himself.
Medieval Romance has never been so emotional – or so romantic – as Bric and Eiselle discover the true power of their love.
(Note: This book is also related to the House of de Winter series and includes characters from the de Lohr Dynasty and Lords of de Royans series. Also note that it is a full length book, not 18 pages as indicated)
more
Sir Bric MacRohan has watched most of his contemporaries get married but he is the High Warrior, he spends his time fighting and killing. He enjoys it, there is no way a wife and family would fit into his life.
He is related by marriage to the lord he is pledged to. Now that lord, wants an alliance with a neighbouring lord who has decided to “reward” Bric for saving his life with the hand of his cousin.
Eiselle de Gael is only the daughter of a merchant, but she does have important relatives. Her father is delighted that his only child has made an advantageous marriage.
Our heroine could not be more different to her betrothed. She has never lived around warriors, so when something tragic happens she has no idea how to help. Luckily for our hero, he is well loved by his brothers in arms. Battle fatigue was known but always looked on with a hint of shame.
A very emotional story about an incredibly strong man facing something scarier than the enemy. Will the new love of his life be enough to save him? .
You will feel just about every emotion while reading this book. There will be tears and laughter. Lots of intense love and understanding from the other characters for what our hero us going through. If like me you have read Kathryn’s books before, you will certainly know the men involved.
As usual I loved every page.
The wait for this latest book of Kathryn Le Veques, was well worth it. I warn you, have your box of tissues on hand for you will need them. The lady has done it again bringing us into the world of the High Warrior Bric MacRohan and his lovely new wife Eiselle; their story sure has its ups and downs. Newly married barely knowing each other is bad enough, but then as High Warrior and leader of the army he has to go into battle and gets severely injured. Eiselle turns out to be a wonderful wife, she may be young and not know much about war, or what’s expected of her, but she sure learns fast just what this man she married needed and I loved her for that. Doubt and fear could be a death sentence for a warrior like Bric and the anxiety crippling. This new hero has won my vote; his story really touched me a fierce fighter for the de Winter family who his cousin Keeva has married into and his being Irish made me love him even more. His friends men who are great knights and fighters in their own right give him support and help him. One of these friends is another great knight Sean de Lara from another great Le Veques book The Shadow Lord.
I know this book will keep you turning the pages; I could not put it down. To me it was a wonderful story of a great man and his journey back to being the great warrior that he once was, with the help of a wife who he has fallen deeply in love with and his band of brother warriors.
Love this author and all of the series!! They keep you wanting to want to know more about the families and the history! I have even looked up historical facts to become more familiar with the timeframe of the period so that I can relate better to the books!! The author pulls you into the books and the lives and that is what makes a great book!!
This has to be one of her best books to date! It is a completely awesome, unforgettable experience.
This is another great story from Kathryn le Veque. If u love a story about commitment, tragedy, love and understanding, this book is for u. I was so caught up in the moment and all the trials Bric went thru and the love of a good woman he didn’t want in the beginning. Anyone who loves medieval stories will love this book.
An Amazing story!! I was not prepared for the emotions that seeped through the pages as I rapidly read this book. The life of a knight came alive and the hero Sir Bric MacRohan, named the High Warrior as head of the de Winter war machine, was one of the fiercest men alive. He is respected by all of the knights and is very aggressive and without fear. Never thinking of marriage, he is unexpectedly betrothed to Lady Eiselle de Gael as a reward for saving a friend’s life. But as this strong knight and this gentle lady meet, amazing feelings emerge for them both. Before they can even get their married life started Bric is off to battle and for the first time being severely injured and fighting for his life. As he begins to heal he is again sent to battle and upon his tragic return, he experiences feelings he has never felt before, having a fear of battle and no spirit of the warrior left inside. This opened my eyes to thoughts of warriors through the ages that experienced the modern term PTSD we label today. But in those times it was thought they were weak. When Bric’s fellow warrior knights band together to help him, can he be saved? Can Eiselle’s love be strong enough to support him? This book made me feel so many emotions. I smiled, I cried ( yes I did) and I cheered Bric on his journey. Kathryn Le Veque is a master at bringing the characters to life and making the history real. She captures the essence of the medieval times and does not let you go until the end. I know this story will stay with me for a long time and It will have a place in my heart always.
This is an exceptional story about a renowned knight named Bric. He is respected, revered actually, by all who know him, and those who fear him. As a relative to a man of high rank, and a descendant of a rather important family, Bric ends up marrying a beautiful young woman named Eiselle. As far as marriages went in that era, this was arranged for Bric, who had long said he would forever remain a bachelor. Well, forever is a long time, and sometimes life sends surprises.
At first Bric is not enthralled with the idea, but the more he comes to know Eiselle, an only child of rather unhappy people,he finds he is happy. But life throws the two newlyweds a series of events that could break far lesser men and marriages, and Eiselle must rise to the challenges fate presents them.
This is a story that could have ended in tragedy but for the insight and bond of a man with his friends and the encouragement of his partner. It is a medieval look at a situation that affects warriors of many types even today.
This story is wonderful! It is filled with battle, friendship, heartbreak, and love. The descriptions of their lifestyle were so detailed that the narrative had me envisioning the castle, keep, and grounds. It was difficult to put down and thoroughly engrossing. I highly recommend to readers of historical romance who like plenty of action and romance with their hea.
Great Historical Romance! Full-bodied, fast-paced, action packed with steamy passion! Well done!!!!!
Kathryn Le Veque does it again! This book has it all. Kathryn pulls you in hook, line, and sinker from the first paragraph to the very last word. She is truly one of a kind.
This book is about a very fierce Irish knight named Sir Bric MacRohan who found out he is indeed mortal after receiving a great injury. He recovers but trains his men differently and is not the aggressive knight he once was in battle. Enter Lady Eiselle de Gael, who is his gifted wife as a reward to Bric for saving a mans life. The lady is resigned. He is less than pleased. He sees it more as a punishment.
What neither of them expected was to fall in love.
When the greatest swordsman gives up on himself due to battle fatigue, it’s up to Eiselle and those who love him to help the man regain his confidence to once again pick up his sword and do what he was meant to do.
This is an amazing book.
An Irish Knight must face his demons and forgive himself for the accidental death of a fellow knight. Only a woman who loves him and his closest friends can help him fine peace and return to be the knight known as “HIGH WARRIOR.”
A difficult subject, PTSD is debilitating for those who live with it and painful for friends and family to watch.
Le Veque has written with compassion and an understanding that there is no easy path to finding a way back to living in the light. (5 STARS*****)
High Warrior Sir Bric MacRohan is an Irish born knight who’s the Commander of Daveigh De Winter’s English army. He’s the one most aggressive and powerful knights in the realm. All of his friends are getting married and he has no plans to follow the suit, but one of his closest friends Dashiell Du Reims has other ideas. He tells Bric of his cousin whom he thinks would be the perfect match for him. Bric tells him no way!!! Daveigh receives a marriage proposal from Dashiell for his cousin to marry Bric, Daveigh knows there is no greater honor than to marry Dashiell’s cousin for Bric and accepts the marriage proposal.
Lady Eiselle de Gael is the daughter of the bastard son of the Earls of East Anglia. Her father is a merchant and is ecstatic for his daughter to be marring the High Warrior linking his family to the famed de Winter’s. She is forced to marry de Winter’s greatest knight, but she wants to know if he wants to marry her. Eiselle is not quite what Bric expected and he unexpectedly finds himself drawn to her and agrees to the marriage.
No more than a day after the wedding Bric is called into battle against the French the High Warrior leaves his good luck talisman with Eiselle to keep safe. Bric is severely wounded in battle barely making it home alive. Eiselle and the priest nurse him back to health. Their love blossoms and becomes a most endearing relationship that is strong enough to endure yet another battle with a battle worn husband coming home with PTSD. I loved this book, I laughed, I cried the story is amazing in the telling of history as Kathryn weaves this tale of hardened warrior and his sweet wife who learns to be strong and stand by her husband in times of self-doubt, battle fatigue and troubles. 5 STARS!!!
This is my honest opinions after I voluntarily read a copy of this book that was provided to me with no requirements for a review.
I love this often.
Always enjoy her books
One of LaVeque’s best.
Other reviewers have already well stated what I cannot do better. High Warrior is such an emotional rollercoaster. The story and characters will be well remembered by this reader. No one can do it like Kathryn Le Veque does with her writing. Amen.
Forced into a marriage he finds a happiness he never expected, Bric then has two epic back to back tragedies that his new wife helps him over come with love and grace. Add a little steam to the mixture and this book was a true winner!
Yet again, a truly great LeVeque medieval novel!
Powerfully and Boldly Told! – “A man hath no greater love than he lay down his life for his friends”
Le Veque always writes a ‘meaty’ tale, and High Warrior is no different. In fact, once the tale ended, I felt completely replete and extremely satisfied with the outcome of two lovers and their heartache finding their dream.
Le Veque’s stories, with richly textured, often deeply scarred or flawed characters keep me thoroughly entrenched page after page. With all the conflict and struggle of life challenges, I have much to ponder, for I can always take away something of import from her stories – situations, although in Medieval times. They resonate deeply within my own romantic heart.
High Warrior goes beyond just another historical romance, our hero fights the effects of PSTD, a mental condition not accepted with compassion as we have come to understand presently, nor understood as anything other than weakness.
Our hero warrior is Bric MacRohan, revered for his mighty strength and unquestioning fearlessness on the battle field, and loved by his men. He is a man of little emotion, the men are used to that.
However, a talisman given him long ago holds much wisdom in the words inscribed upon it. He carries it always, often taking it out and kissing it during battles. The words, “A man hath no greater love than he lay down his life for his friends” a knight understands. Their brotherhood and protective spirit to bring them all home is paramount.
Bric has been instrumental in saving many lives. His close friend, Dashiell, is in a position to pay him back, but with a gift Bric does not want—Lady Eiselle. Bric is coerced into marriage; he must marry as his liege, Daveigh De Lohr, commands.
After being wounded in battle, the fearless, no emotional man who is feared as he cuts heads off on the battlefield, does the unthinkable. He runs. He’s confused. He isn’t able to understand his fear. He’s never been afraid. Is it because he has a wife and he is beginning to love her? Is she his weakness?
Lady Eiselle learns much about herself. She had been resigned to this marriage as most women are during this period in history. She finds inner-strength she knows not she has. The depth of love she finds with her warrior knight will just plain curl your toes and seal your fate!
You will experience a great love affair, shed tears of sorrow, and share the pain that Bric fears of swords and arrow. The story moves along with a fast-clip, secondary characters whom are friends of Bric support him and his wife is awesome in her support and love.
You will not be able to put this one down. I can’t wait until it comes out in audiobook. Le Veque’s books can be enjoyed over and over – so moving, so emotional and so inspiring.
