High Tide and Island Side is a heart-twisting, gut-churning, page-turning, coming-of-age duet. It is a triangular second-chance love story with two compelling alpha males but no cheating. Romantic and suspenseful, it sparkles with the glitz of Hollywood, sizzles with the tropical heat of Hawaii, and steals your breath at times, but it will also make your spirit soar.
Don’t miss High Tide and Island Side by New York Times bestselling author Michelle Mankin, the highly anticipated two-part conclusion to the Rock Stars, Surf and Second Chances series.

Michelle Mankin has left me stunned yet again! This book was absolutely fantastic and so very heartbreaking. Hollie is such a beautiful soul, and she’s been repeatedly beat down by life. I’m so stunned by the ending, that I’m at a serious loss for words. I am counting the days until I can read Island Side, the continuation of Hollie’s story. Give me more, quickly, I am dying to know what happens next!
Hollywood media, manipulation and machismo
4.5
Good romance well written, sometimes very hot, containing reversals, including a huge cliffhanger. The characters are endearing: Hollie is a young actress who will be 18 years old and is protected by Max her bodyguard after the psychological attacks she suffered from her stepfather a powerful man of Hollywood.
But between the media, the scandal she seeks to reveal, the pressure surrounding her revelations, the consequences on her loved ones, her age gap with Max, the paparazzi, the lies, the manipulations around her, a story without pretense is complex to set between Hollie and Max. Not to mention that Hollie tries to continue to invent a life for the media and to want Max at the same time, while pretenders harass her as soon as she goes out.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book
Oh my! High Tide was akin to a roller coaster ride. It started kinda slowly, making its way around those warm-up curves and dips. Things changed once we hit that big hill, building tension and anxiety. Once we went over? Well all I can say is you better hang on! There is so much I want to say about High Tide but can’t because it would spoil the story. And this is one to be experienced.
If you haven’t already read Oceanside, book 3 in Michelle’s Rock Stars, Surf and Second Chances Series, it might be a great way to get all the feels for Hollie’s backstory and some of the ‘players’, by reading this first- you still have time to catch up!!! Oceanside was Fanny’s heartwrenching story with Ash and still my favorite in this series.
These two sisters lived a wealthy and privileged life but their home wasn’t a happy place for them or their beloved mother. Growing up under the thumb of her father, world renown in the entertainment world, Hollie was a teen actress and he never spared his criticism of every aspect of her life.
High Tide takes us right back to where we left off as Hollie is fighting her personal legal battle with the powerfully connected man she thought was her father, after he attacked and assaulted her and she ran for her life.
Hollie, now 17 years old, is still acting and working hard to stay on top her game. It’s the only life she’s known and she’s in demand, trying to stay one step ahead of her stepfather as he uses every trick in the book to take her down and ruin her reputation. Good thing Hollie has 24/7 live in protection courtesy of that hunky blond adonis bodyguard, Max Cash…yikes, he’s intense!
She has a major crush on him, but, hello..still 17 !!! I didn’t feel their connection the way I thought I might. Don’t get me wrong, their mutual attraction was real, but maybe it was the fact that she was so young and I’m not!!! Haha! Maybe because I thought he was hiding something from her which made me wary since she seemed to be missing all the obvious clues. Her immaturity was showing at times and I wanted to say..stopppp! She was very young and inexperienced with relationships and it showed.
Anyway, when Diesel Le, super sexy, dirty talking Dirt Dogs manho comes charging over to escort her to her 18th birthday party, their sparks are flying, while Max is suspiciously MIA on her special day. Warning- Hollie’s got her hands and mind full of not one, but two gorgeous, possessive men who both are very excited that she’s finally turning 18. Some swoonworthy moments going on here!
So, this book has everything a beachy summer read needs to snag you into its wicked web- secretive hot bodyguard, suspenseful and dramatic twists and turns, sexy rocker and his talented band that you’ll be so happy to see again. Then, of course, a wildly unexpected ending that will have you saying WTF did I just read here????
Thank goodness the 2nd part of this duet, Island Side, will be out very soon after this one releases because..just WOW, I’m not quite sure I know exactly what happened here, and I need more details to discover how this unbelievably shocking final scene plays out. I know what I HOPE will end up happening..let it happen, Michelle, please!
An early copy of this book was given to me in exchange for my honest review of it.
Hollie, Max and Diesel star in this angsty, yet sweet read. Hollie is on the cusp of womanhood, caught up in the affections of two sexy hunks as she fights the legal battle of her life. The dichotomy settings of Hollywood glamour and the idyllic island life made this an intriguing romance. It’s a two-part story, and I am excited to find out what happens with Hollie!
This was not the book for me. I did not enjoy a lot of this book for several reasons, none of which I can explain because I don’t want to spoil anything! Still…
This story is beautifully written – I’ve said about this author’s writing before that it’s lyrical. This book falls into that category. The characters are well rounded and fleshed out to the point they feel like ppl you know or want to know. You want to hug them or yell at them or smack some sense into them.
This is a HIGHLY emotional read. And part of the reason I didn’t like it is also the reason I’m HIGHLY anticipating and looking forward to reading Island Side. : )
