Emma Andrews has a plan.Grocery lists, daily task lists, five, ten, twenty year plans, so what if she’s the list whore everyone says? They must know survival depends on the protective shell of structure. Her past was chaos. Her future will be anything but.Order. Intent. Purpose. She can’t afford to stray from her lists. Definitely can’t take risks or let go like other university students. And at … university students. And at the very top of the no’s? She absolutely, positively cannot fall for temptations like Christian Lukáč—the enigmatic lifeguard who explodes into her life and threatens the very foundation of her fortress.
Emma Andrews had a plan.
Christian Lukáč blew it up.
An angsty, sweet, and emotional beach read.

My first read by this author and don’t think it’ll be my last one. It was a great, sweet read and when you think it’s going one way, it’s going the other way. It really left me guessing. If you haven’t read this author yet, it’s really a great way to start 🙂
Emma has been through a lot and the only thing that really keeps her sane are the lists she makes. She has never really dealt with her past but this summer should be a new start. When she first meets new lifeguard Christian, there’s this instant chemistry between them but she doesn’t need any distractions. But life has a way throwing you curveballs you don’t see coming and it’ll be an eye-opener for her and maybe, just maybe, he is just what she needs to deal with everything…
Even though Christian still deals with his own past, there’s just something about Emma that makes him want to try for more although when everything comes back to haunt him, he’ll have the need to run again. But being with Emma seems to change it all… Will both be able to deal with their past and see that they can have a happy ending?…
4.5 Soul Seeking Stars
What a sweet coming of age romantic drama following two extremely lost souls. Both with a past filled with family tragedy and heartache, neither looking for love, but finding a connection so strong it can’t be ignored. When Christian Lukáč and Emma Andrews meet on a busy beach in America, the stars align and life becomes easier, and that scares Emma no end, they have nothing in common on paper, but if you look a little deeper, and if Emma stopped being so stubborn and opened up to a relationship, she would see they could be great together. Wonderful writing (in a style unique to Ayson Santos), in-depth characters that I loved and a love story that will pull at your heart strings. I loved it.
I was expecting a fun and sexy summer beach romance read and this book was not it. Emma and Christian are two troubled souls who have problems moving forward from their pasts. While they have the potential for a great connection and romance, I felt at times we were so stuck in Emma’s head that it was hard to really feel their connection. I’m a huge Alyson Santos fan, but although this was a decent book, it wasn’t my favorite of hers.
4.5 Cranky Stars
Lists help us keep our tasks in order but for Emma they are a coping mechanism she hides behind. A childhood marred by tragedy she is so type A to a point it hinders relationships except the obvious important one between her and her best friend and her Gram. She’s a 21 year old college student living in Deepsilver but she doesn’t do the typical things a 21 year old does. Her life is neat and organized and certain words trigger panic attacks. When a jellyfish sting puts her in the path of the hottest but most guarded lifeguard on the beach what follows is awkward and painful and beautiful.
Christian has come to the states from Slovakia to lifeguard. This was the perfect opportunity to see the USA. He is pursuing a degree in physics is Bratslavia so along with his best friend from childhood they hit the American beaches. His past is much like Emma’s full of painful secrets that hold him back. Relationships don’t register on his list. He’s too busy running to stay still long enough yet when he meets Emma things start to change.
I loved Christian! He was such a broken soul with so much heart. My heart hurt for his story. Emma I wanted to hug her and tell her she would be ok that life is scary but that’s ok too. I like that Alyson Santos puts a lot of heart and soul into her books. I mean I’m not a serious beach person but she made the beach sound downright heavenly. Also if you are a follower of Sunniva Dee books then you will notice some familiar places!!
Emma and Christian both had traumatic pasts and are dealing with that when they meet. This is quite an intense love story it takes awhile to get to both of their pasts and then they allow themselves to fall. wow
This is a sweet read, with likeable but quirky characters. Emma and Christian are both serious and old before their time. They’re drawn together but both have pasts they are struggling with and do not want to let anyone in. I did find sometimes that I was confused by the flashback scenes.
I love that it was set in Deepsilver, the overlap with Sunniva Dee’s and Alyson’s worlds always leaves me with the warm and fuzzies. I really liked the secondary characters of Harley and Jakub too.
Need a perfect angsty summer read? High Tide is your book. Emma has plans. Emma makes lists. Emma doesn’t fall in love…. until Christian. “How do you let go of the person who’s touched your soul?” You shouldn’t Emma, don’t let go. Emma and Christian both had traumatic pasts and are dealing with that when they meet. Christian is running, he has come to the US from Slovakia to be a lifeguard for the summer and had no plans on meeting Emma and her changing his life. Both of these beautiful characters are a flawed mess at first, but that is the thing about love, it can heal. I could relate so much to Emma and I loved her character. I was rooting for this couple to work through their issues together, instead of apart. Sometimes we don’t realize what we need until it is standing in front of us, on the beach, in swim trunks, ready to save us from drowning.
I enjoyed this story very much. Two broken people who find an undeniable connection to each other when they’re least expecting it. The characters were great, their plights and backgrounds definitely interesting. There some transitional and memory sequence issues that kept me from rating a full 5 stars that I felt could have been massaged a bit for better reader understanding and flow in the story telling but the actual plot of the story was interesting and the characters were as enigmatic as they were charming. Definitely worth reading. I’m a big fan of this author.
