After inheriting a house in Seattle, Jax O’Connell is living the life of her dreams as a glass beadmaker and jewelry designer. When she gets an offer to display her work during a bead shop’s opening festivities, it’s an opportunity Jax can’t resist—even though Rosie Perez, the store’s owner, is the surliest person Jax has ever met.
The weekend’s events become a tangled mess when a young … young beadmaker is found dead nearby and several oddball bead enthusiasts are suspects. Jax must string together the clues to clear her friend Tessa’s name—and do it before the killer strikes again.

A slow-moving story.
Okay story, okay mystery although easy to figure out. I felt sorry for the writer in the story as he seemed like a nice guy so not sure why he wasn’t given a chance but maybe he figures into the story line in subsequent books. I am not interested in following the series.
A good mystery along with information in the world of beading.
I’m a multi-media artist and one of my media is beads. That’s what drew me to this book. This is extremely well written, well paced and the characters are believable. I kept guessing until nearly the final chapter about who done it.
I wanted to like this book, I really did, but I just found it too descriptive in too many directions… beads… murder… friendships… unlikely weekend guests… a “psychic” cat that was missing for most of the book.
Easy read, fun Seattle local.
I loved it!! Loved hearing all about bead making.
Boring
I love cozy mysteries and I love beading so a mystery about beading, what’s not to love. It was a good book. The characters were well developed and the plot was good. I will plan to read more books in the series.
If you want to learn how to make a glass bead it is a good tutorial.
A good who do it, didn’t see the end coming, keep guessing wrong.
Good mystery with a different story line. Easy to read because it kept my interest. Would definitely like to continue this series.
Very entertaining
Fell flat after a bit.
I enjoyed this book and learned a about jewelry making/business.
Really enjoyed it. I know a bit about bead making but at 75 there is no way I could get into it now. Still, I enjoyed the images of the bead studios. The worst thing was I knew WHO had done it right from the start [I read too much], just not WHY.
Great cozy! really enjoyed
Amusing characters throughout this mystery. Cute read and unsuspecting ending
This short book contains a fair amount of information about bead making, some possible romances, a missing teen, twists and turns in the lives of the characters and a couple of murders. It felt like the author was torn about what to focus on or that she is laying the ground work for a series. I would have appreciated a tighter, more engaging story.
High Strung was an okay light read story. The plot line involves a mystery related to Jax, a talented bead maker. As the story progresses, multiple characters are introduced, and Jax feels she needs to play detective. This book interesting and is a good choice for those times when you want to read something quickly and don’t wish to invest too much time in doing so. This was what I was doing. I wanted a brief late night time filler, and this book worked well for that purpose, but the story has some short comings. There are incidents that don’t play any real role in the plot development of the story. One example is the friend’s missing daughter episode. This whole deviation from the storyline seems misplaced and serves no real purpose in my mind. Overall, good time filler but not your best choice if you want a more complex mystery.
