The murder of a notorious public figure places police chief Jesse Stone in the harsh glare of the media spotlight in this New York Times bestseller. When the body of controversial talk-show host Walton Weeks is discovered hanging from a tree on the outskirts of Paradise, Massachusetts, police chief Jesse Stone finds himself at the center of a highly public case, forcing him to deal with … him to deal with small-minded local officials and national media scrutiny. When another dead body-that of a young woman-is discovered just a few days later, the pressure becomes almost unbearable.
Two victims in less than a week should provide a host of clues, but all Jesse runs into are dead ends. But what may be the most disturbing aspect of these murders is the fact that no one seems to care-not a single one of Weeks’s ex-wives, not the family of the girl. And when the medical examiner reveals a heartbreaking link between the two departed souls, the mystery only deepens.
Despite Weeks’s reputation and the girl’s tender age, Jesse is hard-pressed to find legitimate suspects. Though the crimes are perhaps the most gruesome Jesse has ever witnessed, it is the malevolence behind them that makes them all the more frightening. Forced to delve into a world of stormy relationships, Jesse soon comes to realize that knowing whom he can trust is indeed a matter of life and death.

Loved the book. Highly recommend it.
Good characters, clever story, should be an interesting series!
I love Jesse Stone character. Great books.
Hard to beat Robert Park for dialogue.
As usual with most Parker’s, it has a clever and interesting plot with characters that you get to know and can understand. I recommend it for a fairly quick and easy read.
He’s the best. Love Spenser, Sunny and Jesse, and of course Hawk.
Love this series!!!
Robert B. Parker wrote an exceptional series about Jesse Stone and I’ve loved every one of them. The characters come to life and the way he wove the mysterious crimes in each that you struggle to try and solve in your head as you read makes for a 5 star reading experience.
If you’ve ever watched the Jesse Stone movies (we have the entire set) you can seriously picture the scenes and dialogue in your mind. Another good Robert Parker book.
Jesse Stone at his best1
Character Jesse Stone is well portrayed and irresistible to follow. Can never guess the ending!
I really enjoy Robert Parker books. You always wonder “who did it or who the bad guy is”. Not bloody or gory and You can see his soft and human side too.
Somewhat of a downer, definitely disappointing.

Always a good read from a reliable wordsmith
I am getting annoyed with the dysfunctional relationship. I still picture Tom Selleck in the character.
