“Reading Hideaway is like a mini vacation, as Roberts transports you from the sun-drenched mountains of Big Sur to the rolling hills of Ireland to the bustling streets of New York City.” – Associated Press A family ranch in Big Sur country and a legacy of Hollywood royalty set the stage for Nora Roberts’ emotional new suspense novel, Hideaway. Caitlyn Sullivan had come from a long line of … Hideaway.
Caitlyn Sullivan had come from a long line of Hollywood royalty, stretching back to her Irish immigrant great-grandfather. At nine, she was already a star–yet still an innocent child who loved to play hide and seek with her cousins at the family home in Big Sur. It was during one of those games that she disappeared.
Some may have considered her a pampered princess, but Cate was in fact a smart, scrappy fighter, and she managed to escape her abductors. Dillon Cooper was shocked to find the bloodied, exhausted girl huddled in his house–but when the teenager and his family heard her story they provided refuge, reuniting her with her loved ones.
Cate’s ordeal, though, was far from over. First came the discovery of a shocking betrayal that would send someone she’d trusted to prison. Then there were years spent away in western Ireland, peaceful and protected but with restlessness growing in her soul.
Finally, she would return to Los Angeles, gathering the courage to act again and get past the trauma that had derailed her life. What she didn’t yet know was that two seeds had been planted that long-ago night–one of a great love, and one of a terrible vengeance…

Great story! I enjoyed every moment of this easy to read story. The characters were great.
I enjoyed Hideaway but I don’t think that is Nora Roberts at her best. The time line wasn’t clear judging by comments about people’s age there were years that seemed missing. One significant medical error; she mentions a drug that couldn’t have acted the way it was described. There was no need to mention the name of the drug at all but by naming it she brought attention to the error. I have found similar errors in some other recent books. In the Cousins O’Dwyer trilogy she repeatedly mentions potatoes and tea neither of which was known in Ireland in the 13th century.
Caitlyn Sullivan at age ten was smart and brave enough to escape her kidnappers by running through the woods to the home of Dillon Cooper. His mom and grandmother helped in the rescue, contacting the local police and Caitlyn’s family. There was a terrible betrayal – Caitlyn’s mother Charlotte Dupont had helped the kidnappers. When Charlotte and her lawyer make a deal that gives her a shorter prison term and longer ones to her accomplices, she makes a vengeful enemy which once again puts the adult Caitlyn in danger. Even surrounded by family and her now lover Dillon Cooper, she is threatened. Will her courage and strength help her to her happy ever after?
Another wonderful suspenseful romance!
One of Robert’s best. Strong characters and very believable.
Nora Robert, may she live to see 100…
Incredible writer!!
I loved this character drivn page turner. Nora Roberts is an American treasure
Keep up the great work.
Another great book by Nora Roberts. Roberts is one of my favorite authors. The story of Cate and Dillon will get your attention from the first page and you won’t want to put it down until the end. Lots of action and lots of love as the lives of family members intertwine.
Sometimes I just want a comfort read and Nora Roberts is that. I love how family is so centric in this one and it’s written almost like a saga. The touch of Ireland in this book that you find in so many of hers was great. The setting of Big Sur plays a big role and is just the calm and comfort I was looking for. There’s love, family, and of course, a bit of mystery in Hideaway that kept the pages turning. I really enjoyed this one but am not surprised as Roberts is not one to disappoint. Highly recommend!
First Shelter in Place, then Undercurrents and now Hideaway-all 5 star reads for me! Hideaway was a wonderful story filled with family, love, violence and friendship. The theme of a strong family unit plays out with Cate’s family and Dillon’s family and that connection starts when Cate was 10 and kidnapped. Another fantastic story!
Unique story line. Kept me interested all the way through. I like this author a lot.
As always, Nora Roberts is wonderful.
It’s a Nora Roberts book! It’s a wonderful read and will be a wonderful reread.
Enjoyed the premise and especially the first part of the book. It was an interesting plot and seeing it develop. It became a little predictable toward the end, but I think Nora Roberts books are always enjoyable and a pleasure to read and enjoy.
I’ve started to realize that Nora Roberts books have a formula. And that is fine, but it needs to be updated from time to time. She has updated it…somewhat. My problem is that she’s begun writing these amazing female leads who are perfectly capable of saving themselves, but at the last minute the male hero has to come in and finish taking care of business. It’s starting to really get repetitive and annoying. She almost got there with Undercurrents, she was so close, although I didn’t connect with the characters as much as usual. I had high hopes she’d do it this time. That she would let the female lead stand on her own and have the male support her. And she got so close, but still just couldn’t do it. Here’s a radical thought: let the girl save the guy! (actually that almost happens in Angel Falls, but even then the guy comes to the ‘rescue’) I liked the characters and the stories. The years given are making me sad because I am now older than the main characters and that makes me feel old. I also have to question Dillon naming his dogs Gambit and Jubilee after the 90s X-Men when he was a something like 12ish in 2001, but I digress. There are definitely recognizable elements from some past works in here (Public Secrets, River’s End, a bit of Tribute), but the way they are woven together doesn’t make it feel fully recycled. I’ll admit, after the number of Nora Roberts I’ve read all the leads are somewhat starting to run together personality wise. Basically this was a nice outing of a fairly boiler-plate Nora Roberts. There isn’t really any ‘mystery’ involved (anyone who hadn’t figured out who was involved in the first crime before the reveal needs to take a course on reading comprehension), but it was enjoyable and the characters are likable. I actually found myself more interested at times in the side characters. I borrowed it from the library, I don’t think it’s likely to be one I go out and purchase for repeat reading, but still well worth a read.
I loved this book from the very first page. The characters, the setting, the story….everything! Just a wonderful book that totally captivated my attention. Nora Roberts draws you into her story with such ease. You feel like you are part of the Sullivan family. I did not want Hideaway to end!
Nora Roberts has done it again! She has created some amazing characters in a wonderful environment! There was intrigue, murder, love, family and an awesome happily ever after ending.
I’ve been reading La Nora’s books since late ’80s and going back to her after a string of new authors always brings me comfort. A lot of her critics call her formulaic but I don’t care. After writing nearly 300 books, she knows what works. What’s not broken needn’t be fixed. For me, I love the familiar, the expected – sympathetic characters with fascinating jobs, strong family ties, tight friendships, swoony romance, taut suspense, the touch of the Irish, and educational competence porn. They’re all there in Hideaway with Cate and Dillon and the Sullivans and Coopers.
What’s also there that is new is the inclusion of diverse characters. La Nora has her lead character Cate be in an interracial relationship. More of that please. Also fresh (to me) is the deep dive into the world of audiobook recording.
While the suspense part was not as strong as in many of her previous books and the middle part sagged, Hideaway still engages overall.

Hideaway
by Nora Roberts
An excellent read keeping the readers spellbound, with tension and intrigue that pulls at the reader from the very beginning; turning the pages wanting to find out the characters final destiny. Hideaway has non-stop action and family drama, with romance and enough suspense to get the reader hooked, certain for a happy conclusion.
The characters in Hideaway are well developed, smart and resilient, powerful, wealthy, and sophisticated. A tight knit family with emotional scars, readers can relate to, making the readers more involved in the storyline. Hideaway has plenty of back-story and the characters play well off the other characters.
Hideaway has everything fans of Ms. Nora Roberts love and want; her signature style of writing comes to life in her books. Creating a scene that the readers are drawn into her novels, with sentence structure describing not only the action but the settings. The depth of her characters, the detailing of her storyline; Ms. Nora has done it again, captivated her readers from the first page, keeping the readers attention throughout the entire book. A book that could very well become a bestseller and turned in to a movie.
I enjoyed reading all the story that Ms. Nora has written. I was thrilled when I saw who the book author was, I had received; but, when I read that it was a pre-published copy of the book, I was in tears. It is an honor to add Hideaway to my collection of Ms. Nora’s work, count now of one hundred. The thoughts and feelings about this author and her work are completely my own. Giving Hideaway and Ms. Nora Roberts 5-stars.
Disclosure of Material Connection: I received a complimentary pre-published printed copy of Hideaway from the publisher, St. Martin’s Press; thank you. Perfect! Love her books!
