“Reading Hideaway is like a mini vacation, as Roberts transports you from the sun-drenched mountains of Big Sur to the rolling hills of Ireland to the bustling streets of New York City.” – Associated Press A family ranch in Big Sur country and a legacy of Hollywood royalty set the stage for Nora Roberts’ emotional new suspense novel, Hideaway. Caitlyn Sullivan had come from a long line of … Hideaway.
Caitlyn Sullivan had come from a long line of Hollywood royalty, stretching back to her Irish immigrant great-grandfather. At nine, she was already a star–yet still an innocent child who loved to play hide and seek with her cousins at the family home in Big Sur. It was during one of those games that she disappeared.
Some may have considered her a pampered princess, but Cate was in fact a smart, scrappy fighter, and she managed to escape her abductors. Dillon Cooper was shocked to find the bloodied, exhausted girl huddled in his house–but when the teenager and his family heard her story they provided refuge, reuniting her with her loved ones.
Cate’s ordeal, though, was far from over. First came the discovery of a shocking betrayal that would send someone she’d trusted to prison. Then there were years spent away in western Ireland, peaceful and protected but with restlessness growing in her soul.
Finally, she would return to Los Angeles, gathering the courage to act again and get past the trauma that had derailed her life. What she didn’t yet know was that two seeds had been planted that long-ago night–one of a great love, and one of a terrible vengeance…

The romance between the grandparents was so nice to see. Overall, this is a good read.Though I went into this book expecting mystery/suspense, it was more of a family drama mixed with romance. The story flowed well and I enjoyed it, but I kept waiting for the suspense.
I loved this book as I love all of Nora Roberts’ books.
This book follows the Sullivan clan as they leave their mark on Hollywood. Caitlyn Sullivan finds herself in trouble early on. As a kidnapping on gone wrong. When she breaks free and gets help no one counts on her remembering so much about her kidnappers and the situation that led to her life being turned upside down.
Caitlyn’s kidnappers and family member can’t believe what they have had to go through and one is out for revenge. Unfortunately Caitlyn doesn’t make this easy at all. She moves with her father to Ireland to recover from her kidnapping, then to Hollywood to see if she can’t still act which she totally rocks at it. Then she winds up in New York for a bit before going home to find her way and what she wants in life.
This book showed a young girl, a brave warrior child to a young adult taking her life back. So much was going on that you find yourselves rooting for the Sullivan’s that they can move forward from what happened so long ago. Definitely a keeper of a book long after the story is told I don’t think Caitlyn will leave my mind as a great book to have read by a fabulous author as always!
Caitlyn Sullivan comes from a multi-generational, talented, hard-working acting family, Hollywood royalty. She was already a child star at the age of nine. But then, while playing hide and seek with cousins at their Big Sur family get-a-way home, she’s kidnapped, drugged, and held for ransom. She manages to escape, and chances upon a near-by farm, where she’s discovered by teen-aged Dillon Cooper, whose family gives her safe harbor. The kidnappers are caught and go to jail.
But the incident affects her entire life, and the lives of her family. She grows up secluded and protected in Ireland, but when she ventures out on her own, isolated incidents and vague threats follow her. Eventually, she returns to the family home in Big Sur, and reunites with a now grown-up Dillon and his family, but again, danger follows her. As always, Nora Roberts’ fabulous characters keep the story moving along and compelling until the exciting conclusion.
A solid Roberts suspense thriller. Not quite as gripping as, say, Shelter In Place, but still a good plot and interesting characters.
Hideaway by Nora Roberts is a story about a young, 10 year old brave girl, Caitlyn Sullivan, who disappeared playing hide and seek. She was kidnapped by two bad men and her own mother for the root of evil, money. What she endured and how she escaped unfolds a captivating saga that held my interest from the first page to the last page. Cate, who comes from Hollywood royalty, was a already a star. She escaped from her abductors and ran across the woods to a house where Dillon Cooper, a teenager lived. Dillon and his family provided her refuge and reunited her to her dad and grandfather. After the harrowing night, she gathered up the courage to go on with her life. This brings about an amazing story of love, family drama, vengeance, ranch life, life in Ireland, Hollywood, New York, and at the end back at Big Sur. Cafe’s journey is a great romantic, suspenseful thriller that is well worth reading.
I borrowed this ebook from my library. All thoughts and opinions are my own!
I loved this book! Great mystery plot, superb character development.
4 1/2 STARS!
A temptation of love and vengeance! With a tale centered around a family filled with Hollywood royalty, Nora Roberts takes her reader on an emotional journey of love and suspense in HIDEAWAY. The two families at the core of the story are well developed and extremely likable. The plot hooks the reader very quickly and while there are a few disjointed curves that take us from one point in the story to another, the heart of the story is very satisfying.
Caitlyn Sullivan is an endearing character who stole my heart right from the start. She manages to outsmart kidnappers as a child and make her way towards a safe haven that will get her back to her family, and just when we think we can’t like her more, she manages to pick up the pieces of her shattered world and go on to live a successful life.
Watching her come full circle and return to Big Sur and the guy who helped reunite her with her family all those years ago is a welcome twist that seems to only raise the intensity of the danger still swirling around her.
I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a drama filled book revolving around an accomplished family and the ups and downs of life’s circumstances.
Wow. Awesome book. 6 stars. Long book but worth it.
As always a good story!
Awesome
Captivating Suspense! It was dramatic and emotional. The audio version is superb. January LaVoy is excellent as the narrator. She is creative at changing her voice to fit the character and she has MANY characters she pulls out of her repertoire.
I loved it. Kept my attention the whole time.
Another great book from this popular author, a very enjoyable read
One of the best Nora Roberts’ novels! A heartwarming, beautiful story of true love and family values.
The Hideaway by Nora Robers is an entertaining read for those who like to settle in and enjoy a book rich in plot and character, The story follows “Cate” from an early tragedy to the happy-ever-after end. The “princess” in a multi-generational theatrical family, the book features clearly defined characters with themes based on love, family, and the courage to face the challenges in life. Although the opening reads a little slow, the story develops with complex layers, and for those who want to spend time lost in a fictional world, I would recommend The Hideaway.
Another Great read from Roberts. Well developed characters, well developed story, and a family that you wish was yours.
I so enjoyed this book.
I find you can never go wrong with a Nora Roberts book, own them all including her JD Robb books. The only bad thing is they read so easy, I feel like I wait so long for them to come out and I’m done in 23-48 hours.
Entertaining as are all her books
