“Reading Hideaway is like a mini vacation, as Roberts transports you from the sun-drenched mountains of Big Sur to the rolling hills of Ireland to the bustling streets of New York City.” – Associated Press A family ranch in Big Sur country and a legacy of Hollywood royalty set the stage for Nora Roberts’ emotional new suspense novel, Hideaway. Caitlyn Sullivan had come from a long line of … Hideaway.
Caitlyn Sullivan had come from a long line of Hollywood royalty, stretching back to her Irish immigrant great-grandfather. At nine, she was already a star–yet still an innocent child who loved to play hide and seek with her cousins at the family home in Big Sur. It was during one of those games that she disappeared.
Some may have considered her a pampered princess, but Cate was in fact a smart, scrappy fighter, and she managed to escape her abductors. Dillon Cooper was shocked to find the bloodied, exhausted girl huddled in his house–but when the teenager and his family heard her story they provided refuge, reuniting her with her loved ones.
Cate’s ordeal, though, was far from over. First came the discovery of a shocking betrayal that would send someone she’d trusted to prison. Then there were years spent away in western Ireland, peaceful and protected but with restlessness growing in her soul.
Finally, she would return to Los Angeles, gathering the courage to act again and get past the trauma that had derailed her life. What she didn’t yet know was that two seeds had been planted that long-ago night–one of a great love, and one of a terrible vengeance…

Another fantastic psychological thriller. When I started reading this I wondered where Ms. Roberts was going with this novel. Within the first few pages she had told a story that other authors could write a whole book on. But boy did she come through. It’s the story of the multigenerational Sullivan family that deals with the kidnapping for ransom of 10 year old Caitlyn. They’re an entertainment family, so as Caitlyn grows up she has to overcome how this traumatic ordeal affected how she sees herself and her future in the business she loves. But is the ordeal really over? I think Nora Roberts just keeps getting better with each novel she pens. She is one of my favorite authors and reading this one just proved again why she continues to be on my list. Already looking forward to the next release.
As always, Nora Roberts succeeds in writing a book I want to devour. Loved the characters. Her writing just sucks me in. Always has. Classic Nora Roberts. Enjoy!
Loved this book. Loved all the characters and the extended family of characters. I adored them all. How is Nora continually this good? I’m in awe, as always.
I can’t deny that Nora is a storyteller. The book hooks you right away with a kidnapping. I was worried about Cate and couldn’t stop reading. I have to admit, this is a long book and the pacing… Well, Nora does like her descriptions of characters and settings. We have Hollywood types and ranches and the beautiful Monterey peninsula. I’ve been there and Nora made me see it. Over and over again. That’s okay, but this book was a mystery too. So I wanted her to get on with it. I couldn’t take away a star though because it had a sweet love story. Enjoy!
I haven’t read a Nora Roberts book in a while, although she has always been a favourite author in the past. When the book appeared on #Netgalley I jumped at the chance to request and was so happy to get a review copy.
I’d forgotten what a brilliant storyteller she Is! With a diverse range of characters , that are well fleshed out , her protagonists are so relatable, Nora Roberts creates such romantic heroes , you can’t help but fall in love with them yourself alongside the heroine. She certainly didn’t disappoint with this latest offering.
I was drawn into the storyline within the first few pages. I literally found it hard to put the book down.
The storyline revolves around the Sullivan family , members of the Hollywood elite. The scene is set when nine year old Caitlyn is abducted from the family home Big Sur, she is very resourceful and subsequently escapes her kidnappers , finding help from the Cooper family , when she stumbles onto their ranch . She finds her way back to the safety of her family , betrayal is not far behind though , causing repercussions that reverberate through the years as we watch Cate grow from child to adulthood
This was a pacy, suspenseful romantic read , Cate was a feisty heroine that you couldn’t help but like, it was an emotionally charged family drama and I was rooting for Cate to find the happily ever after she deserved.
I really enjoyed this book and thoroughly recommend it.
I received an early review copy of the book and voluntarily leave this review. All thoughts are my own and unbiased.
A legacy of Hollywood royalty sets the scene for this beautiful new story from Nora Roberts.
Hideaway was nothing like I expected from reading the blurb, and I mean that in the best sense. The Sullivan family was a force that I immediately fell in love with from the moment the story started with Caitlyn’s Granda and his journey from Ireland to becoming one of the most respected actors in the world. Think, Cary Grant but IRISH!!
Some of the reviews for this book are less than stellar, for me though it was one of a kind. That might be because it is a story unlike, I have never read before or because the family reminded me a lot of the family everyone longs to be a part of. The suspense part was a bit predictable and there were times especially towards the end where I felt like she could have wrapped up the book sooner. Even with that though, it wasn’t obnoxiously long around 450 pages.
There is no reason to go in depth to what the story is about the blurb does a fine job of it. Nora Roberts was the first author that got me into the romance genre so I will always have a special place in my heart for her and her books. I’ve read better and I have read worse, but I still thoroughly enjoyed this story.
I enjoyed this. It was a fairly quick moving story line, with action, but not a lot of gore, thank goodness. The characters were very likeable and interesting. It was nice to see the romance develop over the years, and to have a happy ending.
As always, Nora delivers a page-turning story infused with romance. I really liked how this one had an element of glamour to it, thanks to the leading lady’s Hollywood family. Add in a super capable rancher, a quest for revenge, and an attention seeking mother, and I didn’t want to put it down.
I loved the way this book followed the character through her entire life but left you feeling like no time had passed since you began reading. Excellent storyline! Just the right amount of suspense!
Generations of a film star family. Will-written action-packed. I loved the family she created. As usual, her research is impeccable. Hey, it’s Nora Roberts. Nuff Said.
Hideaway follows the life of Caitlyn Sullivan, a child of Hollywood Royalty, from the time she’s ten through to adulthood. The star of this novel is the lush Big Sur setting and the sprawling ranch close by. Not a typical romance novel by any means, but romantic, nonetheless. I enjoyed it.
5 Stars
Loved this book…a couple of unexpected twists kept me turning the pages long past bedtime 😉
Good read. A little disappointed because I wanted the last scene with Mic, Red and Sparks. Really liked these characters especially Dillon and Cate. Always looking forward to reading the next book by Roberts.
When it comes to comfort reading, Nora Roberts never fails.
I’ve been enjoying this author’s book for years now. I love the way she writes, I just sigh and sink into the story.
This is a lifetime tale of a Hollywood family, generations of actors. The main story is a kidnapping and their lives later, we watch this child grow into a young woman with deaths, marriages and drama creating a wonderful story.
A story of family and revenge. A twisted family member and criminals creating chaos.
Dillon and his family on the nearby ranch have been part of the family for a long time, since the kidnapping. It was nice to see the kids come full circle through their lives. I just wanted a little more by the end but it was beautiful.

I enjoy a Nora Roberts Read! Loved her characters…
Classic Nora Roberts with unexpected twists, great story.
Hideaway is a romantic suspense that is less romance and more of a suspenseful multi-generation saga. The main character is the one who is in the most danger, but the book spends a lot of time on her extended family. Nora Roberts is on my Must Read list, but I’m a bigger fan of her contemporary romances and her JD Robb “In Death” series. Still, everything she writes is impressive, and I can recommend Hideaway to anyone who likes romantic suspense with an emphasis on the suspense.
I listened to the audio version of this book. The narration by January LaVoy was extraordinary! She is so good at so many different voices. To be honest, she is the reason I gave 5 Stars.
The story itself is probably 4 Stars. I haven’t read Nora Roberts for quite awhile. I much preferred when she was writing straight up romances.
