DEVIL’S NIGHT is returning! Hiding places, chases, and all the games are back… BANKSBuried in the shadows of the city, there’s a hotel called The Pope. Ailing, empty, and dark—it sits abandoned and surrounded by a forgotten mystery. But you think it’s true, don’t you, Kai Mori? The story about the hidden twelfth floor. The mystery of the dark guest who never checked in and never checks out. You … never checked in and never checks out. You think I can help you find that secret hideaway and get to him, don’t you?
You and your friends can try to scare me. You can try to push me. Because even though I struggle to hide everything I feel when you look at me—and have ever since I was a girl—I think maybe what you seek is so much closer than you’ll ever realize.
I will never betray him.
So sit tight.
On Devil’s Night, the hunt will be coming to you.
KAI
You have no idea what I seek, Little One. You don’t know what I had to become to survive three years in prison for a crime I would gladly commit again.
No one can know what I’ve turned into.
I want that hotel, I want to find him, and I want this over.
I want my life back.
But the more I’m around you, the more I realize this new me is exactly who I was meant to be.
So come on, kid. Don’t chicken out. My house is on the hill. So many ways in, and good luck finding your way out.
I’ve seen your hideaway. Time to see mine.
*Hideaway is a romantic suspense suitable for ages 18+. While the romance is a stand-alone, the plot is a continuation of events that began in CORRUPT (Devil’s Night, #1). It is strongly recommended that you have read Corrupt prior to reading this.

“There’s freedom in hiding.”
I really hope the Devil’s Night books get made into movies because they are engrossing and wild. Honestly, I spent so much time during this book wondering how the hell Penelope Douglas comes up with these things. She must have a very vivid imagination. Everything feels so real. The scenes are atmospheric and the author is descriptive enough to make the reader feel present. Characters are complex and have real feelings, even if those thoughts and feelings are uncomfortable or taboo.
One thing I noticed while listening to Hideaway was that Douglas’ scenes are long. I think thats because she spends so much time exploring each scene and each character. I honestly have to say that after reading Corrupt and Hideaway, her writing is so different from what I’m used to.
I was not all that interested in Kai’s character during Corrupt, but I came to really like and respect him in Hideaway. I also really liked Banks’ character. Our lives are so different, but I just really understood her and felt for her. I love how things turned out for both characters. Their relationship really surprised me. I loved them together and the way they connected.
I never understood why so many fans of Devil’s Night were infatuated with Damon. I get it now. I really do. Damon steals every scene he’s in. The way Douglas slowly unraveled bits and pieces of Damon’s character was so intriguing. During Corrupt, I was like ‘this dude is freaking psychotic’. During Hideaway, I saw his humanity. His relationship with Banks really showed how capable he was of loving and connecting with someone else — even if not exactly healthy. The way this book ended… I was engrossed in trying to understand him.
I listened to this book on audio. It was narrated by Tatiana Sokolov and Jeremy York. Sokolov’s scenes are emotive and never flat. York did a surprisingly good job narrating Kai in a way that differentiated him from Michael of Corrupt. Although it was the same narrator, I felt like I was now reading Kai instead of Michael.
The Devil’s Night series gets even better with book 2! Hideaway was Kai and Banks’ story. Corrupt gave us a brief glimpse into Kai and how prison broke him. Banks was the secret girl who always hid in the shadows but no one ever knew about. The twists and turns in this book were just amazing and I want to visit all these old hotels! Looking forward to what is in store in book 3!
Hideaway is good. Banks and Kai’s story is twisted and dangerous but man do they belong together. Hideaway is as intense as book one and I can’t wait to see what book three has in store for us.
Penelope Douglas did it again! Kai and Banks’s story was AMAZING!!! Twists and turns, my heart was in my throat through the whole book! My stomach in knots until the very end! I actually woke up super early in the morning to my husband kissing me before he went to work and I had been up reading this book for hours before I fell asleep and I ended up wigging out! So terrified I couldn’t breathe and was shaking lol! I thought I was going to have a heart attack! Damon seriously creeps me out in this book! Penelope’s writing is so fantastic! It really gets under your skin! I’m so ready to dive into Kill Switch!
I knew I would like Kai.
Penelope cant WRITE! Dannnng Girl!
Each Hero and Heroine is broken in their own way, but yet each has amazing strengths. Kai and Banks are perfect for each other.
I can not articulate my feelings. Just know this.

What’s this book about? (I’m trying to give as little spoilers as possible)
Kai Mori wants to protect what’s his. He wants HIM gone. Banks either knows where he is or she doesn’t, but she’s too close. She’s hiding something and Kai wants in on that hideaway of hers.
I didn’t like Corrupt much and therefore, I didn’t review it. I started Hideaway out of curiosity, because it was on sale and because of Kai. I remembered liking him in Corrupt.
Well, let me hereby confirm that Hideaway was entirely MY JAM. Kai is a snack. Banks is a tough cookie. Michael served hardcore hilarious eggplant vibes. Yes, it’s all food references. The intense chemistry amongst King Kai and Baby Banks was fleshed out superbly; I loved their steamy interactions and their back and forth. Baby Banks had a lot of shots to fire throughout the novel and it was just priceless to see her in action. KANKS had some heart-breaking moments, too, and those were all-consuming since there were a lot of obstacles for Kanks (which can be pronounced KINKS if you’re one of us). The dynamics in this novel were everything. Corrupt definitely needs to be read prior to starting this instalment because it was basically a continuation of what happened and how the characters deal with the aftermath. I owe a special shoutout to Alex; she’s a lovely side character who deserves some of her own fun! She made some of the scenes she shared with the leads here HILARIOUS.
There were a couple of twists in Hideaway and I confirm that I didn’t see any of it coming. They were glorious, sad and captivating. Douglas did what she always did; she swept me away and made me go WOW and speechless.
I recommend this to all the romantic suspense lovers, people who love themselves a privacy-loving mysterious leading man who gives the best confessions, a somewhat lost leading girl with secrets and intensely twisted family relationships that make her loyal to her core.
“Oh! Darling, if you leave me
I’ll never make it alone
Believe me when I beg you
Don’t ever leave me alone.”

This book is EVERYTHING!! It was absolutely phenomenal. I am completely in love with this story!! I literally can not stop smiling because it was so good. Banks and Kia captivated me from the very first page. This story was Suspenseful, Intriguing, Exciting, Shocking, Angsty and Sexy as hell. It was the perfect dark romance. Banks was so interesting and different. She is strong and thinks she knows what she wants until she is forced to see from a new perspective. Kia is a man with a mission. He has a dark side that he doesn’t like to let out but when he does it’s magic. Together they are the perfect pair. Their romance is unconventional. Their connection is strong. They are crazy and intense and so made for one another. This book had me on the edge of my seat. I never wanted it to end. I could not stop reading. I am so completely in love with this story. I seriously want to re-read it right now. Everyone needs to pick up this series and especially this book! It is officially one of my Favorite reads of 2020. I can not wait to read the rest of this series! I am obsessed!!
5 Stars
I was over the moon when I saw that we will get the story of every Horsemen. This right here is Kai’s story. Kai is an interesting character. Sexy, mysterious, rich, ambitious and dark. I loved him. I liked his dark side.
One year has passed and Damon is still missing out there, free, watching them, waiting for his revenge. After all Devils Night is coming, and it’s his favorite night to play. Everyone is in danger, especially Rika. Kai decides to take the matter into his own hands and be prepared…Banks is Kai’s obsession, the tie with Damon and the only person loyal to Damon. Everybody thinks that she knows where Damon is, but she doesn’t have a clue. Banks is the girl that 6 years ago made a powerful impression on Kai. She was the only girl that challenged him and enjoyed his games and now she is the girl that Damon’s father employed to convince Kai to buy The Pope.
Banks was a strange girl, still is. She still wears man clothes that unfit her and she still loves Damon. Had a rough life, her brother bought her from her mother and kept her locked away and under his thumb for years. She is feisty. Her relationship with Kai is complicated, constant fighting, arguing, hurting each other, but as much as they hate each other as much they love each other.
I hated her when she always picked Damon over Kai. I felt sorry for Kai. I didn’t like her very much as a character but I loved Kai. The story of the book was good, intense and suspenseful. Damon made quite an appearance, didn’t expect that from him. Can wait to read his story, especially now, after learning something about him and the way he is. That scene with Rika and Banks…WOW. Overall it was a great book, but my favorite remains Corrupt and Michael!
I highly recommend!
This story picks up where Corrupt left off, with explaining what happened to the guys. Banks has a secret regarding Damien and his father Gabriel. Kai wants to find Damien and put an end to the situation that Michael, Will, Rika and he are in because of Damien. Kai can’t forget Banks and ends up in a contract to purchase a hotel from Damien’s father. He adds his own rules in keeping Banks. I don’t want to give too much away. I love this series it has twists and turns and keeps you on the edge. There are so many things you won’t see coming until it is too late.
Penelope has created an intensely dark and delicious world that will enrapture you from the first page until the very last moment. This series is a delightful blend of scary, twisted and decadent to the angstiest degree. This is book 2 in the series and should be read in order. It’s not completely necessary as they are written as standalones but they definitely have interconnecting story-lines. This story follows Kai and Banks.
“A man cannot destroy the savage in him by denying its impulses. The only way to get rid of temptation is to yield to it. –Robert Louis Stevenson”
I loved Banks, her character is so multi-layered and fascinating. How this girl had to grow up and still be who she is just floors me. She is strength personified and does everything she can to just be seen by her father. She spent her whole life living under the radar and not being noticed in her house because she is female. And according to her father females are essentially worthless other than bearing sons. She has struggled and clawed her way to being more than what he has deemed her as, and it’s empowering to see.
“You are one of my secrets,” she shot back. “I’m trying to steal you, but I wish I didn’t want to.”
The relationship that she builds with Kai made perfect sense. There was so much push and pull between them for obvious reasons. And she was very much Hot and Cold through most of the book. Which again makes sense as to how she grew up and what her ultimate goal was. But the slow burn intensity between them was sizzling. Kai was drawn to her from the moment he met her. And you can feel that attraction jump off the pages. Every time they are in a room together it’s like you can feel the heat pouring from the pages. (The closet scene enough said).
I love Kai’s character he’s actually a really good guy with a slightly skewed moral compass. He was raised to never disappoint and to do the right thing. And since his arrest has felt that his parents are perpetually disappointed in him. I love the glimpses into his culture and you can really see that he never wanted to bring shame on his family but knows that he has and is fighting with that. He’s Alpha protective and has a seductively dirty mouth, he is; All. The. Things!
“Around you, I get hungry. Like I’m starving.”
What I loved most about this story was the intensity throughout and the perpetual state of unease due to not knowing where Damon was. It set the book on a whole new level of angst. Will he or won’t he type of thing? And you can feel that from everyone in the story. You could tell that each character was tense and it showed. This series is completely addicting, what Penelope has created will take you on an intense journey that you won’t want to leave. She has roller coaster level twists and turns that leave you gasping for breath but screaming for more. Trust me you want to read this series, you will not be disappointed.
Not my favorite in the series so far, but still good. Unfortunately, I couldn’t connect with Kai, I felt that it lacked emotion.
This continuation of the Devil’s Night series is freaking epic and deserves every freaking star plus a 100 more!!! The suspense is at an all time high with Damon on the run and more secrets are unveiled!
The 4 horseman have now become 3 lonesome knights and no amount of reparation will replace the damage these men have put themselves through. As a year goes by, Kai sets himself in preparation for Damon’s arrival back into Meridian City. Rika joins Kai in training for self defense but doesn’t always seem to put her training to good use.
The suspense just keeps growing when Banks, the mystery girl from Kai’s past, appears at the Torrance mansion during a meeting with Gabriel. Kai’s new love interest falls under his command when Gabriel and Kai attempt a peace offering that will secure Damon’s return to Thunder Bay. The only thing is, no one knows where Damon is hiding.
This book was thrilling and electrifying!!! You never know when you’re going to be thrown for a twist and I freaking love that it’s unpredictable! On to Kill Switch my dears!!!
“Every touch, every breath heightened the weightlessness taking over my body. I was floating, the room was spinning, and I didn’t want to get off the ride.”
I’ll be honest, I wasn’t as impacted by this one as I was the first, but it still held the swirling, hypnotic, rush-inducing chase of a backstory and I enjoyed unraveling it immensely. I was gripped at how everything might play out after all the events that took place in Book 1. It was always heralded that Kai was “the nice one”, I enjoyed all his many facets much more than the few peeks in Book 1. I adored Banks and her tragic story, and how everything came together. It left me smiling and eager to start Book 3!

I am loving this dark, twisted thrill ride Penelope Douglas is taking me on! Hideaway was the story of Kai and Banks and it was everything. The heat and the suspense were overwhelming. The characters were larger than life and jumped off the pages at me. I can’t wait to read the next book.
I think I loved this one more…
Than Corrupt. I’m not sure. I can’t decide, but Kai and Banks definitely gave me life. This book was just so good. Like, secret good. I’m talking so good that you never want it to end, and you just want to live and get lost inside this world forever.
At this point, I feel like I know the Horsemen. And I want to know them. I desperately want them to be real people I can watch and listen to all the time.
When reading Corrupt, I fell hard for Michael. And actually I started to love him a little more in Hideaway because of how he is with Rika. That being said, Kai is amazing. I mean, he’s like everything I dream of in a book boyfriend. I think he’s going in the top 5 for sure. That ending?? I just swooned so hard I feel like I won’t be able to stand up for a while. LOL
And in Hideaway we also got to know Will a little more, and I’m absolutely certain I’m going to love him sooo hard too. Where’s his book, dammit??! (Kidding, of course. Take your time sweet thing. I’m an author, too so I get it)
But then there’s Damon. Sigh. Damon Torrance.. what are we to do with you? Finding out details about Damon’s completely fucked childhood broke me. The scene at The Pope on Devil’s Night had me sobbing. Harder than I’ve cried in a while over a book. So Damon now has a place in my heart, regardless of how evil he is. He can change!! Lol
Can he? I’m gonna start Killswitch right now and find out.
Thank you again, Penelope for creating this world and these dark, sexy, exciting stories that make me feel so much. You’re so good it’s almost indescribable. APPLAUSE FOREVER!
4.5 Stars
I haven’t read a Penelope Douglas book that I even remotely disliked. I’m not sure I can say that about any other author I’ve read, except maybe JR Ward. Douglas is an unapologetic author, giving her readers the antiheroes that we crave. I love the depth of her characters and the stories that she consistently write that grab me and don’t let go. I loved everything about Hideaway: romance, suspense, and action that had me breathless.
-4.5 stars-
This series get more suspenseful and intense! The anticipation of what’s about to come grips me with every page turn!
Kai, he’s still quiet and intense and dangerous as ever. I just hoped to have seen more of his much darker side though. To explore more of it and use it in a way that’s very suited to his character.
I can’t wait to dive into the next book! The suspense, drama, mystery, secrets, lies and deceits makes me go bonkers here!
I would recommend for you to read the first book, Corrupt, first.
I loved it! They’re back and this time they’re being hunted by one of their own. Kai’s story was dark and twisty, with an ending I never saw coming!
I absolutely am in LOVE with this series and this book! It is perfection. LOVE, love, love!!!

Review:
I liked this book but not as much as I liked the first book. The thrill I felt while reading the first book was missing in this book. Well maybe not missing but it didn’t grab me as much as it did in the first.
I was very curious to see what would happen with Kai. I really liked him in the first book. It was fun seeing the other characters again.
I also really wanted to know what the hell Damon was up to.
I liked banks but I also had trouble connecting with her at certain times. I don’t know sometimes she rubbed me the wrong way.
I didn’t really feel the chemistry between Banks and Kai if I’m honest. I like them together and I’m glad they are happy but there was something missing. Something to convince me that they really loved each other. I felt it from Kai’s side but really missed in sometimes from Banks.
Overall I enjoyed reading this book.
What is this book about:
This book is about Kai. He is searching for what he really want in his live. He feels like his past mistakes are still hanging over his head no matter what he does.
And it doesn’t help that Damon, old friend turned enemy is still out there and he made it clear there is unfinished business.
Banks didn’t have it easy growing up. Her mom wasn’t there for her, and her dad is a piece of shit. She had one person to rely on and he wasn’t the most stable person either.
She and Kai have a history, but will they have a future?
What did I like about this book:
I still liked the suspense in the book. I liked seeing more from their past. What made them what they are. And I liked seeing certain events from book 1 in another point of view.
I’m very curious to see where Damons story is heading.
Rating:
4 I liked it stars.
