DEVIL’S NIGHT is returning! Hiding places, chases, and all the games are back… BANKSBuried in the shadows of the city, there’s a hotel called The Pope. Ailing, empty, and dark—it sits abandoned and surrounded by a forgotten mystery. But you think it’s true, don’t you, Kai Mori? The story about the hidden twelfth floor. The mystery of the dark guest who never checked in and never checks out. You … never checked in and never checks out. You think I can help you find that secret hideaway and get to him, don’t you?
You and your friends can try to scare me. You can try to push me. Because even though I struggle to hide everything I feel when you look at me—and have ever since I was a girl—I think maybe what you seek is so much closer than you’ll ever realize.
I will never betray him.
So sit tight.
On Devil’s Night, the hunt will be coming to you.
KAI
You have no idea what I seek, Little One. You don’t know what I had to become to survive three years in prison for a crime I would gladly commit again.
No one can know what I’ve turned into.
I want that hotel, I want to find him, and I want this over.
I want my life back.
But the more I’m around you, the more I realize this new me is exactly who I was meant to be.
So come on, kid. Don’t chicken out. My house is on the hill. So many ways in, and good luck finding your way out.
I’ve seen your hideaway. Time to see mine.
*Hideaway is a romantic suspense suitable for ages 18+. While the romance is a stand-alone, the plot is a continuation of events that began in CORRUPT (Devil’s Night, #1). It is strongly recommended that you have read Corrupt prior to reading this.

Following on from where Corrupt left us, Hideaway continues in pretty much the same manner. Full of lies, secrets and deception. This is Kai’s story. Alternatively between the present and 6 years ago.
Once again an addictive read and full of irony in the search for Damon. The Horsemen are weakened. We see different sides to each of the characters, their strengths and vulnerabilities. Their determination to make the heroine their own and the secret past surrounding her.
Difficult to say much more without giving any plot lines away. Suffice to say if you love romantic suspense, hot guys, and a plot that has more twists than a screwdriver then you need this series on your tbr… at the top!
I’ve gotten nothing done all week. I can’t put these books down, and I’m about to get even more nothing done as I read book 3. Banks is a big surprise, a mystery, and I’d love to just watch her bloom. Kai has two sides to him, but he’s definitely not as dark as he thinks he is. I was so drawn into this story, and there’s a lot going on, a little bit of heart pounding fear as well as love and friendship.
This one started off very promising and I thought it was going to be darker than it was. I liked Kai and really wanted his story. The best part of this book was Damon. Probably cause he is such a dark messed up character. I will go on to the next book cause of him.
So, Hideaway continues from Corrupt and gives you all the dark, twists and turns just as the first book. Again, I was intrigued with this book and kept telling myself just one more page time and time again but still couldn’t put it down because I was so consumed with the story. Each book takes you further down the rabbit hole with a gritty, dark all-consuming, read that you just can’t stop. I’m on to the next book and already on the edge of what’s to come.
Two books in and I can’t get enough of the Devil’s Night series. It started with Corrupt and now Hideaway, it’s an interesting dynamic created among the four Horsemen – Michael, Kai, Damon & Will. They are more than friends and closer than brothers. A world created as boys that have grown into men. A world I didn’t want to leave even though I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough to find out what was happening next.
Kai Mori is different from his friends. Sure he likes to play games of fear, likes the chase, has that edge, but there’s an inherent goodness to him too. He has flaws. His struggle between right and wrong makes him more human. His feelings of remorse and disappointing his family weigh heavily on him. He’s gentler, but make no mistake he can be mean and cruel.
Banks is a mystery – dresses like a guy, completely covers up leaving everything to the imagination. She may come across as weak but she isn’t at all. She strives to be independent, but wants deeply to be loved and respected. She is completely loyal to those she believes deserves it and will battle anyone who doesn’t.
There’s a simmering, intense attraction that started with their very first meeting. They battle with each other and themselves to fight it. They both need to feel in control, yet neither of them completely has it.
Penelope Douglas has taken someone you shouldn’t even like and made him someone you love. She has crafted a story with all the best elements of romance and suspense. Honestly, I didn’t want to stop reading. And I won’t for long because Kill Switch is next.
Oh god these books are just everything .
I’ve loved Kai since corrupt so I couldn’t wait to read this and get me my horseman fix.
It was amazing didn’t disappoint one bit your gripped from beginning to end on this roller coaster journey of hate and betrayal.
Cannot wait for kill switch lets see what Damon brings !
Wow just wow!!!!! I was so amazed by this book!!!! Hideaway has the perfect combination of dark, intense, scary and surprises. And boy is it FULL of surprises. The Horseman came back with a bang and Kai is definitely my favorite Horseman so far. Banks….my heart hurt for her and Kai is just the man she needs to save her. But at the same time she’s a total bad ass and I loved that about her. And oh Damon….I’ll be on the edge of my seat waiting for his book!!!
This flipping book!!
Kai and Banks blew me out of the water. The twists and turns this series takes you is so captivating. I am always wondering what is going to happen next. I can make guesses but 90% of the time I have no idea what’s coming next. I love how this series always keeps me on my toes.
It’s so intriguing to get inside Kai’s head. To feel his struggle to see that though he battles a dark side, he is inherently good. Kai is fiercely protective of those he loves and his loyalty is something to behold.
Banks…this woman is one tough lady! She kicks butt and takes names. Though she has a tough exterior and blocks out everyone except the one person who “protected” her, she is vulnerable and craves human connection. Ever since meeting Kai she knew there was something special about him, she knew that he would always be thee one.
There is something so alluring about the whole group. The Horsemen, Rika, Alex and Banks. Together they create something so special. Their story pulls you in and makes you want more.
I cannot wait to see what happen next!
What do I even say about this book? Well, my bestie has been on the Penelope Douglas train for quite some time. Penelope is her ‘unicorn’ author. She’s been talking about corrupt for a while. It just takes so much motivation for me to award myself with enough time to read for leisure to actually sit down and do it. It all started with Birthday Girl. LOL. Then I watched the book trailer for corrupt. HELLO! yes, please. I’ll admit that I’ve always had this weird obsession with rich high school / college kids in urban areas. Don’t ask me why. I couldn’t tell you. Their drama is always over the top and the best.
Read corrupt and loved it. Let’s face it, Michael is that broody asshole we all know and love. I actually loved Rika. I put off Hideaway for so long because, well, corrupt was her favorite of the series so far. She just jumped on the Michael train and couldn’t get off. Well, insert book besties whom you buddy read with threatening you to hurry the hell up because KILL SWITCH is two weeks out and boom I start, her doing a reread with me . . .
READ THIS NOW.
I was an idiot lol. This just goes to show how much one person may favor one while someone else favor the other character. KAI IS HOT! And I don’t know how the heck I missed that he’s Japanese American in corrupt. Asian-American people are beautiful, so let me tell you, that man, OMG! I think it’s the whole ‘hunter’ thing he has going on. In those scenes, when he becomes a totally different person, your heart pumps with hers. Your skin crawls. Your mind wanders. Fear. You’ll feel it. Just like if you were there—the one being hunted. You’ll understand the thrill.
BEWARE, though, that it’s hot. hahahahaha. Sizzling off the pages. I can’t handle Kai in priest mode. It makes me smile and giggle and blush like a school girl. Let me say first that I’m leery of reading things that combine heat with the church. My own personal little thing. I’d rather keep that separate. But it speaks highly of her writing when you can read something outside of your comfort zone and be so wrapped up in it you just let yourself enjoy that it’s fiction. Yes, I was ashamed it was so hot lol. Thank God I’m not catholic. Banks was an iffy for me, lol. I loved her in the ‘stolen moments’ and when she let herself go, but God if I didn’t want to smack her around a little otherwise. I guess it makes their growth better though.
So, if you haven’t started this series, do it. I read this in 2-3 days, which is a rarity in itself for me, since I’m not a fast reader. I devour her books. It was action-packed, unpredictable, and kept me obsessed from the first page to the last. Penelope Douglas has a great skill in creating illusion within a story, making your mind spin with so many questions and options. She has a knack for slow burn and foreplay I’ve never read before that makes you absolutely freaking crazy in the best way. I’m going to savor my hangover with Hideaway for a few days, and then, KILL SWITCH, I’m coming for you.
5 thrilling stars. The paperbacks are about to be mine. And I will say, now, that yes, Penelope is one of my Unicorns too.
Going into this book, I didn’t really know what to expect. The only thing I knew was that Kai had the biggest heart, and he proved that throughout this book.
Banks seemed like a pushover, and she basically was to a certain extent. However, her behavior was used to her advantage. She kept everyone guessing and was able to surprise several characters with her actions which made the story that much more interesting.
Kai was trying to find himself and his purpose. He was so wrapped up in finding Damon and keeping his friends safe that he didn’t see what was right in front of him the entire time.
This book didn’t have much romance, but it totally worked for these characters. Too much romance would have been a contradiction to their personalities.
This book leads up to Damon’s book, and I have so many questions that need answered. I will definitely be one-clicking Kill Switch as soon as it releases!
So… I don’t know if I liked Hideaway as much as Corrupt, but the two of them together (and the prospect of 2 more books) elevate the entire reading experience to something quite epic. As of now, I’ve read all of Penelope Douglas’ books except for Misconduct (which I’m currently reading) and it boggles my mind that I honestly can’t tell you which series (because you wouldn’t dare expect me to pick a single book) us my favorite, so I shall claim them all as favorites as they sort of exist in different genres. The Devil’s Night series is by far my favorite Dark Romance/Romantic Suspense – the way that PD introduces you to characters and builds tension with the back and forth time jump, dual first person perspectives is MASTERFUL! Kai and Banks’ story is so unique and so intense and utterly memorable – I loved their history, their individual backstories, the way they fought their attraction, and the way they eventually succumbed to it. In fact, I think that the way they came together in the end might have actually been a slight bit more satisfying than even Michael and Rika’s HEA because it was so hard fought and there were so many obstacles (ahem… Damon) against them. Add to that, the anticipation of Damon’s book and the quandary of how PD is going to make his story palatable… To say that I’m massively and anxiously intrigued for Kill Switch would be an understatement. 4.5 out of 5 wine glasses.
ReRead 02/09/2019-02/10/2019
Five Stars held for this ReRead.
I am actually not sure where my first review of this book is. But I just reread book one of this series in October 2018 so I could read this book in anticipation for book 3 when I thought it would be coming October or the latest in November. But it never came… not book 3 will be out next week so I thought a reread was in order of this book and Punk 57. It’s odd because I enjoyed Corrupt the first time I read it but not to the extent that everyone else seemed to… but when I did my reread of Corrupt I had a completely different reading experience and ADORED Corrupt then. It was my hope that upon rereading Hideaway that I would also enjoy it even more. I did listen to the audio this time and that tends to be a different experience in and of itself. But for some reason I think I loved it quite as much for the reread but I still loved it all the same. I love Kai and Banks. I love their push and pull. I love the steamy bits because they are just amazing. It did feel like this whole time you were waiting for the catalyst and when it finally happens, it seems as if it just flew through that part. But I love this world and these characters. I also have to say that I wasn’t really mad about the next book getting pushed back because while Penelope Douglas doesn’t turn out books as quickly as a lot of authors do, what she brings readers is some next level story telling. So I will take the quality over the quantity in this care! I recommend this series to everyone that will listen. It doesn’t make a little bit of a dark theme but it’s far from being dark dark. I love being back in these character’s heads and I can hardly stand waiting the next 24 or so hours before book 3 is released..
The story of the Horsemen continues. This is Kai’s story.
He’s the controlled one. The guy whose supposed to be even keeled and have his stuff together. That all changed after going to prison.
Kai has rebuilt his life. And now a wrench gets thrown in his plans and her name is Banks. They are hunting Damon and she’s their connection and hopefully she’ll lead them rught to him,
Nothing is ever that simple.
I enjoyed the first book and this follow-up kept me on my toes. Getting to know Kai and be introduced to Banks was a great addition to the storyline. Their history was bittersweet, and their eventual reunion and getting to finish what they started, was super HOT!! We also found out some of Damon’s secrets and learned about his past. I will be counting down the days until I get his full story. I will definitely be reading each of the horsemen’s stories as they are released.
ctual Rating 3.80
OMG! What a damn rollercoaster of a ride. Hideaway was a straight up shitshow and I was so transfixed. I love this messed up group and all their fucked up ways. I honestly can’t get enough.
I must admit I had a love/hate relationship with this book. It had some really incredible moments that blew me away and had me mouthing wtf. It was addictive and dark as hell. The games the four horsemen play draws you in. There are definitely a lot of games being played in this book. No one is safe.
5 stars
My first book by Penelope Doulgas was CORRUPT. I went crazy with the blurb and wanted to read it soon. That was not only a wonderful book but also is in my list of favorites ever. I loved it so much and I decided to read all of her work. I loved all the her books, but since the news that she would tell the sotry of each boy, HIDEAWAY became the most wanted by me. Every teaser, every post made my heart beats faster. And after two years of waiting, I just wanted to say that it EXCEEDED ALL MY EXPECTATIONS.
HIDEAWAY begins one year after the events of CORRUPT. We are presented with a huge book with lots of details, rich information and a story that holds you from the beginning to the end. The last 30% of it was what gave me a rush of adrenaline. I was crazy reading, because I had no idea what could happen. And I loved the direction the story took.
I loved Banks’s part in the story, her past. I love heroines who are strong. Banks was perfect for Kai. And Kai was perfect for her. Two extremely stubborn people, but somehow they were meant to stay together. I loved all the links to the previous book, with no gaps in the story.
HIDEAWAY was a wonderful book. As I said before, I loved CORRUPT and I was looking forward to this new one. Penelope was perfect and I just have to thank her for making me fall in love even more for these guys.
Damon’s attitudes in this book surprised me and now that my desire for HIDEAWAY has passed, it has settled in for KILL SWITCH. At the end of this is an excerpt from the third book in the series that promises to be as good as the two before.
If you loved the first book, you can go without fear to be delighted by Kai Mori. Do not run, little monster. Let the boys get you the way they got me! haha
Just as good the second time around. Now I feel fully prepared for Damon.
