I know who you really are. Pru has a secret, which she has no plans to reveal – ever. But after a woman is murdered and all clues point to her, she has no choice but to disclose her true identity. When her revelations thwart the killer’s plan to frame Pru for murder, the killer begins stalking her. With each note he sends, he gets closer. The police are stumped. Pru wants to run away. She really, … She really, really wants to run, but Ajax has found the woman of his dreams and he’s not letting her go anywhere. He can be patient. In the meantime, he’ll protect her with his life. Pru isn’t feeling very patient, and her friends, Mel and Terri, are definitely not willing to wait until the police discover who the stalker is. The three friends take matters into their own hands and jump headfirst into the investigation.
Will Pru and her friends uncover her stalker before he turns his violence on Pru?
more
Pru is a teacher and has escaped with a name change to a new school. There are secrets in her life and she would like them to stay that way. While teaching a look-alike woman is murdered. Pru becomes the main suspect. She wants to escape and start over again. However, her teacher friends and boyfriend, Ajax, won’t let harm.
Interesting story with lots of twist.
Pru is on the run from a previous bad experience with a man, so she’s not about to get involved with another. That is, until she meets Ajax, the cute gym teacher at the school where she teaches English lit. Her past threatens to catch up with her when she starts receiving threatening notes. And, when the police haul Pru in for questioning over a murder, of course her friend Mel announces, “… we need to figure out who actually killed this Kathy Greene woman to clear Pru’s name.” With friends Terri and Mel on the case – along with their boyfriends Ryder and Owen – and Ajax to protect her, will Pru find her stalker before it’s too late?
As Pru is an English lit teacher, each chapter begins with a literary quote, all of which are referenced at the end of the book. The book itself is full of literary references:
“Yep, her life story sounded like a trashy romance novel.”
“She’d rather be forced to read Atlas Shrugged again than go through these events with her friends.”
Unfortunately, there are a few editing errors, especially incorrect world usage (e.g., “conscious” instead of “conscience”). But, as in the previous books in this series, the author more than makes up for them by regaling us with her signature dry wit. And the distinctive personalities of our three leading ladies really shine through. I’m going to miss them now that the series is over.
Warnings: mild sexual references.
I received this book in return for an honest review.

What a fun book this was! Hide Not Seek may be the best book in the series. If you haven’t read book one or book two, you will have no trouble picking up on the storylines. The author is able to completely summarize the story of the previous book in just a few paragraphs. The reader completely comes to love Pru and if there has been any reading of the earlier books, you fully love reading about Mel and Terri and Owen and Ryder.
Another amazing part of this book is that you can’t know who the killer is. The author gives every reader a shaking surprise ending and it just makes you go WOW! Someone might argue that this is kinda formulated but formulated in a working way isn’t a bad thing. Didn’t Earle Stanley Gardner have a formula? Didn’t Arthur Conan Doyle have a formula? Both of them wrote amazing fantastic stories. This book is like a warm hug that you just want to wrap your arms around.
I have loved book two and now I have loved book three and I said today upon finishing to Mrs. N, “I want to read book 1!!!”
This book is good for everyone. I think anyone who enjoys any detective/mystery book will love this book as it’s hard to put down.
My Rating: 5 stars
Pru (the English Teacher)has a stalker.
She is receiving notes threatening her
that the stalker knows who she really
is and knows where she lives. How can
this be happening?
Then a woman is murdered. The dead
woman’s diary claims she was to
meeting Pru.
Pru has no idea who the dead woman is.
Luckily Pru was substitute teaching
a class at the time so she has a strong
alibi.
Pru, along with her friends: Terri (the
school librarian), Terri’ s boyfriend
(Ryder), Melanie [the high school counselor
who is finishing an internship in education
psychology), Melanie’s fiancé (Owen, a
police office) and a co-teacher Ajax set
out to track down the stalker turned
murderer plus they all discover about
who Pru really is and why she legally
changed her name.
A fast paced, complex murder mystery with
suspense, chills plus plenty of twists and turns.
Creatively designed characters who are well
defined and portrait the values of friendship
and romance.
This is book # 3 in The Not So Reluctant
Detective series. It can be read as a stand.
A Recommended Read!!!
I volunteered to read Hide Not Seek. Thanks to
the Review Crew for the opportunity. My opinion
is my own.
Another great read from D. E. Haggerty! I loved learning more about Pur, the third member of the Not So Reluctant Detectives. Mel, Terri and Pur solve the case again with a few mishaps, laughs and just s touch of romance along the way. If you love a light-hearted fun mystery, this is a book you want to pick up. Once you read it you’ll definitely want to grab the rest of the series.
Hide Not Seek is the third installment in D.E.Haggerty’s awesome The Not So Reluctant Detectives Cozy Mystery Series. The series follows friends Terri, Melanie and Prudence in their investigative adventures. I love that these books are tense but had me chuckling a few times too.
Not only had Pru been set up for murder but a stalker had been leaving her notes. Pru was sure it had something to do with her past that her friends knew nothing about. Worried about them, the only thing she could think of doing to protect them was leaving town. But her new “friend” Ajax won’t let her leave. He’s sure he can keep her safe. And he had backup with her friends’ P.I. boyfriend and police officer fiancé. Ajax didn’t factor in Mel and Terri’s determination to find the stalker/murderer before something happened to Pru.
I love D.E. Haggerty’s books so I am glad I was given an advanced reader copy. Once again, Ms. Haggerty has written a well thought out and interesting mystery, with a great storyline and likable, diverse characters. That, people, is the makings of a really good mystery novel. I was glued to my seat and didn’t see the ending coming at all. Cozy mystery fans won’t want to miss this book.
