Hide and Seek

As the first book in a new series, Hide and Seek races from the starting line at top speed and is full throttle all the way to the end. It is an outstanding action-paced romantic suspense loaded with sizzling heat. The characters are complex with a well-written dialogue and a storyline that draws you in from the first pages and keeps you wanting more. The connection between Logan and Devon is strong from the start and quickly intensifies, adding an additional level of emotion and intrigue to the story. Ms. Holt does a good job of world-building with the back story of Devon’s father and how everything started, providing a deeper perspective of the situation at large and the danger Devon and Logan face to keep her safe. Hide and Seek is an intriguing read full of surprises and I cannot wait to see what Ms. Holt has in store for this new series.

Devon Cole is a strong, independent woman who is estranged from her father; not by her choice but by his. Since her mother passed away a few years prior, they had become extremely close; only for her father to start withdrawing and acting strange recently. He seemed to be distancing himself and she had no clue why but still did her best to stay part of his life. After a disturbing call from the local sheriff in the town of Arrowhead Bay, she leaves her home in Tampa and makes the drive to her father’s home to get answers. When she arrives at her father’s there is an ominous feeling to his house she cannot explain and on her way into town she is run off the road and threatened by two shady men. Just when things were about to get worse, another unknown man comes to her rescue. Though she did not know him, the gorgeous alpha male puts off a comforting, protective vibe and she suddenly feels safe. Upon learning his identity and connection to the local authorities, he becomes her bodyguard and they work together with his company, Vigilance Security, and teammates to find answers to her father’s disappearance and keep her safe. Tension and emotions run high for them both as they try to balance their growing attraction along with the imminent threat to her life and the search for her father. The more answers she gets, the more worried she becomes and the more she turns to Logan for his strength and solid presence. However, she cannot help but worry that he sees her as a replacement for his past love. What will happen when everything is resolved and their lives can resume again? Will they have a chance at forever or was it just pretty words, passing time?

When an unexpected event occurs, he berates himself yet again for his failures and is determined to walk away. Once all is said and done, after everything that has happened, can Devon let him go or will she stand strong and help him see himself as she does…holding him to his sweet words and promises?
