The promise of Alone did not pan out in Hidden. The abrupt turn around from the men thinking Louise is crazy to kissing her had to be short because the book is so short; but it jarred me just the same. We only see the world from Louise’s perspective, so Skye doesn’t show how the men’s thought processes progressed. It’s still good, but I was underwhelmed based on my anticipation from Alone.
This was the perfect follow up to Alone. I’m not sure what I was expecting but this definitely surpassed it. It’s such a refreshingly unique story. I do wish it was longer, I’d love more of Louise and the men.
It’s book two and our brave, smart and slightly crazy main character has accomplished the unthinkable, the men are awake and safe, but now she’s having trouble understanding what is in her head and what is reality. Nothing is as she thought it was and now she has to work though it and get used to not actually being alone. The physiological trauma she has endured is heart wrenching.
“Hidden” is the next installment of the Mars Diaries. The sex men are now awake, but Louise can’t figure out why they don’t remember her and their conversations from when they were in the cryotubes.
Louise has to figure out what is real and what is her imagination. Can she figure it out in time or will she go crazy?
A couple months later, Mars loses contact with Earth. Earth is under water. Louise and the men now have to figure out how to live on their own. No more supplies, no new colonists, no more communication.
When you are left alone for so long things are bound to be hidden.
The one word I would use for this series is intriguing. I’m left feeling beyond what’s normal when I read this story. What’s real? What’s in our heads? It makes question not only the heroine but our own concept of self. We all view the world so differently. Sometimes what’s hidden in our heads is the hardest fight we have to win.
Sci-fi. Rh. 6 survivers. Strong, smart, not so crazy anymore scientist heroine. Nothing is how Louise thought it would be. Her men don’t talk to her, they act different, and she feels so alone now. Earth is still slowly being devoured by water. How will the seven survive on Mars. It was nice seeing Louise’s mind about the situation. And the guys! They’ll grow on you. I’ll be preordering the next in series. Oh! If you didn’t know this series is connected with MacKinnon’s The Drowning series. A paranormal dystopian about after the Earth has been flooded.
Alone (book 1) was just one of those books that stayed with me – it was so original and I just wanted to see more of Louise and what happened once the guys were awake, so I was excited to see Hidden. I really liked that Louise and they guys were still dealing with what happened in Alone. I liked seeing them learn to work with each other. I’m so happy that there is going to be a third book and we will get to see more of Louise and her guys!
