This book between Hunter, Lily and Kingsley wasn’t my normal genre but I love this series so I read it. I have to say that the story was good but at times I was lost. I hated what they have all gone through and the pain they faced. They are good characters with tough stories. I think Lily’s story affected me the most, not only did she have the horror of her childhood but she was continually tortured by her “savior” Nuka. It was her part in the story that really had me glued to reading more.
This is a well-written book 5 in the bestselling Glacial Blood series: a wonderful world of shifters and witches, magic and mayhem, unforgivable lies, and unbreakable love. The characters in this book are great, have depth and you feel like you know them. This story is about where family is born not only through blood, but bond. This book has twists, turns, pain, family bonds, and love. Must read book in a great series. Read in order so you know the supporting characters in this book better as some of their stories have been told already.

You can tell that the author put a lot of time and effort in this story. I loved the characters and how their stories each individually and together causes the reader to become invested.

A female shifter is sent to disrupt another shifter’s pack, but she gets caught and it turns out she has hidden secrets. The alpha of the pack she was sent to destroy wants answers, he’s busy as he’s trying to follow pack law, protect his pack and stave off a war with humans. A male human who has been abused by his father and left physically scarred feels he can’t love or be loved. The author brings these three very different characters together into a relationship that helps them accept themselves and heal. It also brings them happiness and strength that they didn’t have apart from each other. There is no easy HEA as there is a lot of prejudice within the shifter community that has to be overcome. This is a wonderfully written story with a lot of action and emotion.

If you haven’t read the first books in this series you may want to skip this one. Also, the end while not quite a cliffhanger definitely leaves you dangling.
Next, while well written this book just wasn’t for me. The main characters were fairly likable and the bad guys definitely hatable. There is quite a bit of what I felt to be gratuitous rape/dubious consent scenes. The ones at the beginning were useful in making you hate the main bad guy but honestly the ones at the very end just made me have no interest in reading the next book because while the man I’m assuming will be the “hero” of the next book didn’t participate he did facilitate and watch. Gross.
***I decided to review an ARC of this book.***
Really liked this book!! It was steamy and exciting. This is book 5 but they can all be read as standalones though if you are anything like me you’re going to want to go back and read the previous 4. It was a great storyline with amazing characters. Couldn’t put it down once I started.
This is the fifth story in the The Glacial Blood series. You don’t have to read them in order, or at all, if you don’t want to, to be able to follow this story. It could be read as a stand alone. The only thing is, once you start reading this story, you will be anxious to read the previous stories and chomping at the bit for the rest. Anna Edwards really knows how to write a story, the complete background, world building, fantastic realistic characters that you can easily envision, with all the emotions around, where good is fighting evil, where some shifters want to co-exist with humans and others want to either enslave or kill all humans and they will do anything to do so. You will revisit characters from other stories. Even though each story is a story within itself, it is also a continuous story.
Lily is a bear shifter. Her parents were captured and were forced to perform in a circus, and that is where she was born, into slavery. She was used to make her parents perform, and when she got a bit older, she watched them shot. She was able to eventually escape and ran into Nuka Lincoln (he’s the very bad man) who feeds her hatred of humans and treats her like a slave himself. In a previous story she tried to out the shifters to the humans to try to kick start the war that Nuka wants. Lily was captured and is to be held responsible for her actions. While being held in Kansas, she ends up befriending a human and the Alpha of the wolf back.
Kingsley is teetering on the edge of depression because of the torture he received from his own father who wanted to out the shifters and kill them all. He lost his index finger on his dominant hand. His profession is a tattoo artist. He feels that not only has his father disfigured him, who always hated that Kingsley preferred art to politics, but now he has lost the one thing he was passionate about and his living. He befriends the captured bear shifter, Lily, but is attracted to Hunter, the Alpha of this wolf pack that he is at in refuge.
Hunter is hosting several people from the Glacial Blood pack since it may not be too safe there for them, being that there are children and pregnant women. He is also holding Lily captive until it is decided what to do with her. Hunter is pulled toward both Kingsley and Lily, but knows his pack won’t accept him being with anyone besides a wolf shifter, let alone a human man as his mate. Then his conniving ex-wife shows up claiming that her family pack kicked her out and she has nowhere to go, that maybe they could get back together. Since their divorce, Hunter has hooked up with her a couple times. She just wants to cause trouble so she can get to be the top female again. She causes problems between Hunter and Lily and Kingsley. Then she claims that she is pregnant with Hunter’s child.

After the shock of intense pain and disappointment, put on your big boy pants and improvise! Kingsley suffered a betrayal by his dad, Sen Ross attends the wedding of his sister Isobel and bear shifter Zain, held at Alpha, Hunters’ estate. Kingsley, ‘looked’ when Hunter shifted back to human. Hunter, noticed. Lily, bear was sent to by Nuka to cause harm, got caught and is confined in Hunter’s basement. Kingsley and Hunter believe there is more to Lily than meets the eye. There is unrest in Hunter’s pack. There is a war between humans and the paranormal coming. So, there are lots of challenges in Kingsley, Hunter and Lily’s lives. Can they work together to solve their problems? Can they set down their individual baggage? Is there a question of a choice confronting Lily? This was an exciting satisfying story. There were a few contextual jumps in the storyline but the flow was never interrupted. The supportive characters were entriguing enough that I want to go back and read their stories. Hunter was dedicated, but as an Alpha, he opted to file a lot away for future consideration, mistake? Good story! Nicely done. I received an ARC from Booksprout for a review.
I’ve read a lot of Anna Edward’s book and particularly love her darker side. I’m also a big pnr fan so was very keen to read this.
There is a war brewing between shifters and humans. Hunter and his pack are smack bang in the middle as the battle for power in the shifter world explodes.
I did like Hunter – alpha of the pack he was loyal and fair, but I felt he gave up a bit too easily when confronted by his conniving ex-wife and believed her lies too easily instead of trusting his instincts. I loved Kingsley, the damaged human, suffering mentally after the horrific betrayal by his own father and the loss of his art. He had such a beautiful heart. I loved Lily too, abused by humans all her life, only to then be manipulated by her own kind. Still brave, strong and open minded enough to let herself love.
I loved the dynamics between these 3, not just the MMF sex, which was super steamy, but also the way they supported and boosted each others confidence when they needed. They did go from untrusting to forever love pretty quickly. I missed not having more build up, sexual tension and just some old fashioned getting to know one another. However, these are shifters who know when they find their soulmate and there’s no stopping the pull.
Hidden Pain is part of a series with an overarching storyline. Fast paced, it has a strong, intriguing storyline, action packed and hot! So far I have only read book one. This doesn’t matter, there is enough detail for it to make sense as a standalone and has also definitely peaked my interest to read the previous books, which I look forward to doing. Rating 3.75 enjoyable, easy reading stars.
The fifth book in The Glacial Blood series this is human Kingsley Ross, Lily Davies a shape-shifting brown bear, and Hunter Windsor is wolf nobility from Kansas these three will come together and the will help each other get over the scars from their past, but will they be allowed to be together? I enjoyed reading this book. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Fantastic continuation of this captivating pnr series.
Hidden Pain is the journey of a broken man Kingsley.
An abused shape shifter Lily
And Hunter an alpha who’s losing control.
Their story is of love, loyalty and healing.
I loved all three of these characters.
With what Lily had done I had hated her.
But when her life and childhood is revealed I felt her pain.
And understood why she did what she did.
Kingsley’s life is forever changed because of what his father did.
And the reputation of what the Ross name has done.
Hunter is an alpha pack leader that’s strong and wants what’s in the best interest of his pack.
But when division breaks out in his pack his leadership comes in to question.
Together these three heal and piece together their broken hearts and spirits.
Each of them is vital in their relationship.
Each one of then has their own strengths which bends the others internal hurts.
Their love for one another binds them so strongly that it gives them the courage and determination they will need to overcome all the obstacles that they are facing.
Their commitment and connection to one another is a remarkable thing that is felt from the beginning of the story.
And it just grew and became an unbreakable force as more of the book unfolded.
Also the sexual chemistry and their intimate encounters and hot and sizzling.
Their unwavering love is so awesome and so heartwarming.
I loved every minute of reading Kingley,Lily and Hunters story.
Anna Edwards delivered another fantastic addition to The Glacial Blood series! I highly recommend you read the whole series starting from book one to fully understand what’s going on with all of the characters. Kingsley, Hunter and Lily are quite the sexy trio and their story is filled with secrets, danger, revenge, betrayal, drama, steam and an ending that left me anxiously waiting for the next book in the series.
The storyline was well written, the plot flowed smoothly from page to page and the characters were written with such great detail and depth that I was hooked from the very beginning! The dynamics and the chemistry between Lily, Hunter and Kingsley made this book well worth the read!

This was a surprisingly better book than i initially thought it would be. At first, it was a little hard for me to get into but then the story started getting deeper and more interesting. The characters were good but i think they could have used a little bit more. Overall though it was pretty good
Another fantastic addition to this series.
Paranormal romance is one of my favourite genres. Glacial Blood is one of my favourite series and I’ve been eagerly awaiting the release of Hidden Pain and Hunter, Lily and Kingsley’s story since finishing Shattered Fears. I can honestly say the wait has been worth it.
Kingsley Ross, son of the late Senator Ross needs to find where he fits in, now that his injury has put a stop to the career he loves. Could the love of two special people help him overcome his demons?
Lily Davies, a bear shifter who had a terrible childhood at the hand of humans, had been working with Nuka to expose the shifter world. She is now a prisoner awaiting a decision that is being made on her future. Can love protect her and change her perception?
Hunter Windsor, alpha of the Kansas wolf pack has always done what is right for his pack but when his leadership comes under question, is it time for him to step down or will his truth and honesty save him?
The connection between these characters is there from the start and only gets stronger throughout. I loved that other characters from the pack were involved in this story too. It’s nice to see the bond that has been built, strong and unbroken.
With every installment of this series, the Glacial Blood pack are only getting stronger. How strong will they have to be to finally take down Nuka? Time will tell…
This is one of my favorite series. I love how this author is able to pull me in right from the beginning. I read this story in one sitting as the characters really bring the story to life. This group of characters are awesome, they are strong and supportive of each other. I don’t want to say to much as to give away his story but it is a must read. You wont regret picking it up. I highly recommend you read this series in order to help your enrichment of this series.
This is the first book that I have read in this series and it can be read as a standalone. A possible war is brewing and Hunter has all he can do to keep his pack safe from what is coming. However, there are rumblings from those who want to see him cast out; people that he trusted. It does not help matters that there are some invited guests that are taking shelter with Hunter’s pack. The first guest is Kingsley, a human whose father tried to destroy shifters and maimed his own son. Then there is Lily, a bear shifter who has a hatred of humans due to her childhood in captivity. Kingsley and Lily each have their own demons from their pasts that they need to face. Hunter is developing feelings for the outsiders but he is the alpha and it is not to be. Can the three of them overcome their fears? This is one absorbing storyline dealing with themes of betrayal, prejudice, lies, abuse and love conquering all. I look forward to reading the next book in this series. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is a suspenseful read that illustrates a intriguing relationship between three people/shifters.i was captivated by this book very early on and had a hard time putting this book down. There are incredibly hot sexy scenes, in addition to action packed, and drama filled plot.
I received a complimentary copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving an unbiased, honest review.
This was another great book in a series that keeps pulling me in. I just can’t get away from these characters and they are in my head a lot. I just can’t wait to see what’s going to happen next.
I really like Hunter, Kingsley, and Lily. I think that they make a really good thruple. But more than that, I think that the journey that each one of them goes through is just amazing. They all have these things that weigh heavily on them and that make it hard for them to focus on what’s going on in the here and now.
I think, of the three of them, Lily has the hardest, longest journey. I’m not knocking Hunter or Kingsley at all, but seeing Lily’s backstory really makes me appreciate how far she had to come to be at the point where she is in this book.
I can’t wait for the next book.
3.5 stars
Anna Edwards delivered on a very hot MMF. The scenes are scorching! If you want a sexy read, this is a solid piece.
The character development I felt needed strengthening. It lost some dynamic for me although I appreciated the author’s backstory on Lily. The main characters also had strong chemistry. I just needed some more depth to them individually. The world building though was fantastic and consistent with The Glacial Blood series.
While the book really hits the sexiness, the storyline didn’t quite make it for me. It felt a little off for the series, more like a spinoff. I think if Nuka played a larger part it would have made it fit better and added some tension. There was also some predictability to it, which lowered my rating. Although it had some flaws for me personally, it still is a good read, especially if you want MMF action.
