Grayce MacCarthy possesses the gift of foretelling—but to her, visions are more a curse than a gift. While visiting Ireland, Grayce takes a hike in the Comeragh Mountains, only to fall into a hidden world with no way out. She’s rescued by a gorgeous warrior dressed like a medieval hero in a romance novel. He’s convinced fate brought her to him, while Grayce is convinced her fae-gifted family will … will find a way to bring her home.
After more than a millennium, the Tuatha dé Danann magic separating the hidden valleys from the rest of the world is unraveling. A new chieftain must be chosen to guide the clan through the perils to come, and Brían MacSloan is determined to win that coveted role. When a beautiful woman falls into his world, Brían’s life is turned upside down. Grayce challenges him at every turn, questioning his motives, distracting him from his goals, and stealing his heart.
As passion grows between them, Grayce realizes Brían is the only man for her. But then she has a vision revealing a plot to murder Brían, and old rivalries turn deadly. The two are torn apart, and Brían must defeat his enemies and get to Grayce in time, or she’ll be lost to him forever.

Hidden In Time is an intriguing story about a group of people trapped in a hidden realm for centuries. I do like a good time travel romance and this book is definitely one. The writing is great, the characters are interesting and the storyline is original. This is book two of the series and my first book by this author but I will be reading book one soon.
There is nothing better than a good read that ho!ds the reader’s attention through the whole book. Hidden in Time is such a read. This is Grayce’s story, the second of the MacCarthy sisters. Grace has been a bit of a wild child, but she was just trying to outrun her special gift of visions that foretell the future. She takes a hike in the Comeragh Mountains to clear her kid and soul. Instead she takes not so much a time travel trip as a lateral trip into a hidden valley landing at Brian’s feet. The hidden vales have been magically concealed for seventeen-hundred years to keep them safe from a war that did not involve them. The inhabitants live normal life spans under druid law, but the women only hear sons. As one person dies, a young woman from the other side is added to their population. The single young men then participate in games of strength and skill to win the right to court her. However, when Grayce came through so did a second d woman, the first time that had happened. Will Grayce ever see her family again? Will Grayce and Brian’s relationship grow to love? What about the mischief makers, Brian’s family nemesis? Will bad overcome good? Will the weakening magic that hides the vales unravel completely leaving them vulnerable to the modern outside world? Often the second book in a series does not live up to the promise of the first. This is not the case with this series. Book two is as delightful has book one. I am looking forward to book three with great anticipation.

Fascinating and Complex World
While a lot of time-travel romance seems to take place in Scotland, no doubt due to the popularity of Outlander, this time-travel romance is set in Ireland. It is tempting to say that it is ancient Ireland, but it is actually an ancient group of people who have lived in a hidden vale for over a millennium. So is it really time-travel romance? It feels that way because the hidden society is nothing like our modern one. They are frozen in the third or fourth century—with chieftains and druids—even though they coexist side-by-side with modern times. The world is very complex, and I feel like I cannot do it justice in a short review. The book has to do with the Fianna, the fae, and certain gifts passed down through families. When someone dies in the Hidden Vale, a woman is brought over from our contemporary realm to the hidden one. As you might imagine, the women aren’t always particularly happy that this has happened! These women are prized, though, by this hidden society, and the men who might be interested in those women have to compete for a chance to court her. This is all made more complex in this particular book because it seems like the boundaries set in place so long ago between the hidden society and contemporary society are fracturing. What will all this mean to this ancient society and the couple at the heart of the book? I found this to be a fascinating and very different read. I love the heroine; she is certainly a spiky one, but the hero appreciates her fierceness and boldness. You have to love that!
I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.
WOW what a story. A paranormal time travel between present day Ireland and Medieval times. The author wrote the scenes in such a way that it was so easy to imagine the environment e.g. lush green grasses, the wind blowing through the trees and the leaves moving back and forth, the sunrise and sunsets along with the type of clothing. The story even touched upon spinning of cloth from the beginning of sheep’s wool to thread to spindle. Also, very descriptive was the cooking over an open flame, baking and the smell of fresh bread in the air. It was also interesting how they kept things cold. Now in this book the world still contained magic. The characters were amazing. They were well developed and flushed out with excellent and unique personalities. Their feelings and emotions came across so vividly and realistic. Even the one out to harm others did a great job of being self-centered, wickedly competitive to the point that cheating was a way of life. The other evil one had only one thing on their mind, getting whatever they felt they wanted and would even murder to get their way. Very interesting villains. When the h realized she was in a different dimension where the entire area was concealed from any earthly or magical view and there was no way back to her world she was devastated. She missed her family. But soon she revealed to the H and his parents her gift of premonition and visions of the future. It really came in handy to save a life. She also had some fae blood in her that gave her her gifts. In the meantime, the story relates how she adjusted to a society without all the modern conveniences of her time. For the first time in her life she was accepted for who she was and what she was by the H and his family. The villagers were friendly and warm to her to. When you read the book, you will discover why. As tradition dictated the men of the clan held, according to the h, a he man competition to see who would be worthy to court her. Only the best and brave would have the honor. In the meantime, the h was torn in two. She wished to be rescued but at the same time she was losing her heart to the H. According to the h, the H was physically the image of her romance books. Tall, brawn, intelligent, kind and a little arrogant. But the H was also falling for the h. The veil that hid them from the outside world was unraveling and no one knew what could be done. Even the wise druids did not have an answer but were hopeful to find one. This is such an exciting read. It is full of the wonder of paranormal gifts, facing the demigods who wished to decide their fate and the admirable conclusion. So heartwarming, so entertaining, such realistic feelings and emotions. A page turner with plenty of action sure to please. A must read. You will not be disappointed.
I don’t even know where to begin with this book. Having read the first one, I thought I knew what I was in for, but Grayce’s story is subtly different from her sister’s. And like that first book, this one made me love it in spite of the fact that I usually don’t like time travel romances. For me, this felt more fantasy than time-travel. And that really worked for me because I’m a classic fantasy fan. I loved watching Grayce come to terms with her gifts and finding her place in the world. And Brian finding his peace and place as well.

Barbara Longley delivered a great story of love that has the depth to withstand not just danger, but also rifts in time. Book 2 of the McCarthy Sisters Series tells the tale of Grayce and Brian. The pair share a connection that I can only call “otherworldly”. The book is truly magical and will captivate the reader from beginning to end. Phenomenal job.

A great addition to the MacCarthy Sister series. Grayce is a seer, she can see things in the future. She longs to be free of the “curse” as she calls it. She is trying to be happy for her sister and her husband with their little boy, but she is restless. She falls for a guy, but to be with him, means she will never see her family again. He is everything she has ever wanted but can she leave her family forever?

I was privileged to read an ARC copy of Barbara Longley’s latest book in The MacCarthy Sisters series, Hidden in Time. Ms. Longley’s first book in the series, Tangled in Time, sets up a very different approach to time travel with the oldest sister, Regan MacCarthy. Although each book is a stand-alone novel, I found it easier to accept the possibility of going through time and therefore had more empathy for the second sister, Grayce MacCarthy, and her unexpected adventure in the third century. The characters were charming, funny at times, and believable. It was a fun read and I look forward to what I am sure will be a third installment of the series with Grayce’s twin sister, Meredith, finding her soul mate in a time far away from the present day.

An entertaining fantasy romance, the author has an incredible imagination as she describes a society from a bygone era that is enshrouded in magic. When modern-day Grayce disappears into a tunnel between two worlds, she takes with her all the smart alec ways she has employed to survive her unusual gift. What she doesn’t expect is to be appreciated by the men of the valley who find her endearing and admire her courage. Brian MacSloan is a contender for the role of chieftain for his clan, and when Grayce literally drops at his feet, he knows that she is his destiny. The novel is entertaining and with some high adventure as two worlds meet and a conflict in values ensues. It does help if one has read the first book in the series as it gives the reader more information regarding current events. Nevertheless, this novel is a standalone and comes to a happy conclusion. I received a copy of this book from Booksprout and this is my honest and voluntary review.
