Jeffrey Archer’s Hidden in Plain Sight is the second novel featuring Detective William Warwick, by the master storyteller and #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Clifton Chronicles William Warwick has been promoted to Detective Sergeant, but his promotion means that he, along with the rest of his team, have been reassigned to the Drugs Squad. As the investigation progresses, William runs into enemies old and new: Adrian Heath, from his school days, now a street dealer who he convinces to turn informer; and financier Miles Faulkner, who makes a mistake that could finally see him put behind bars. Meanwhile, William and his fiancée Beth enjoy making preparations for their upcoming wedding, though an unpleasant surprise awaits them at the altar.

Another fast-paced, engaging mystery from a master storyteller. Once again, Archer leaves the reader hanging at the end. I await with bated breath the next book in the series. D.S. William Warwick and the rest of the ensemble are a delight.
I typically love Jeffrey Archer’s books, but this one was not my favorite. William Warwick has been promoted and is chasing after a drug lord as well as a man trying to cheat his son to be ex-wife out of her proceedings from the divorce.
Hopefully book 3 in this series will hold my interest better.
Another Archer jewel!
Listened to the audio book. I found it entertaining. Looking forward to the next installment.
Great writer! Never fail to enjoy his books.
I like this new new character William Warwick!
One of my all time favourite books was his. ‘Not a penny less and not a penny More’
A tad too similar to the Clifton Chronicles but still an entertaining and easy read.
“Hidden in Plain Sight” by Jeffrey Archer drops readers into the middle of a team meeting of the Art and Antiques Squad. The main characters in this continue from the previous book, but relationships fold easily into current scenarios to help new readers catch up on previous action. There is new assignment with new responsibilities, an elite drugs unit. DC William Warwick pulls from his past to solve crimes of the present, and things are complicated when dealing with drug suppliers and users.
The story is about individuals, their activities, their feelings, their instincts, and their relationships with the public, both good and bad. Conversations and everyday activities provide the background that enables readers to know characters as people not just as law breakers and law enforcers. They are believable and persistent. Readers also experience events from both sides, however, things are not always what they appear to be, and sometimes people lie to get what they want. To bring down the “big prize,” the mega drug lord, the team employs the title strategy “hiding in plain sight.”
“Hidden in Plain Sight” is about people; they drive the plot, they drive everything. The story unfolds with suspense, action, and non-stop twists and turns. Things get better and more complicated as the story progresses and sometimes even the dead want revenge and justice.
And the ending? Well stay tuned! I receive a review copy of “Hidden in Plain Sight” from Jeffrey Archer and St Martin’s Press. I cannot wait for the next installment.
I’ve always thought Jeffrey Archer is a great story teller. This book left me scratching my head at the end. The ending seemed a bit contrived, the timing of events not realistic, and then he leaves you with no resolution to a few major events. Hmmm. Guess you have to wait till the next book comes out.
Not on par with his other books. Rather weak.
Having read Nothing Ventured, the first book in Jeffrey Archer’s new series featuring William Warwick, a detective, who also appeared in The Clifton Chronicles, I looked forward to reading Hidden in Plain Sight. Archer does not disappoint. I will admits that it was a little slow at first. Miles Faulkner is still an antagonist for the Warwick family. Having received a suspended sentence in the first book, he is now facing drug charges. William’s father, Julian, and sister, Grace, represent the Crown. Warwick receives a promotion to Detective Sergeant, but he is transferred to an elite drug squad. He also marries Beth.
Of course, Miles gets in more trouble. At this point, the plot thickens and becomes a fast read full of interesting characters and many twists and turns. Since this book is part of a series, the reader is left facing lots of cliffhangers. Now we have to wait. I totally enjoyed this book as a weekend read and look forward to the next book. Thank you St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley for an ARC. The opinions in this review are my own.
It’s 1986 & newly promoted, Detective Sergeant William Warwick has been reassigned to the drugs squad. His first case: to investigate a notorious south London drug lord known as the Viper. But as William and his team close the net around a criminal network unlike any they have ever encountered, he is also faced with an old enemy, Miles Faulkner whom we met in book 1.
This is the second book in the series, I’d recommend reading the first book to fully appreciate this one. Of course William appeared in The Clifton chronicles & I love that he’s now the main character in his own series. As you would expect the characters leap out of the page at you, the pace is fast & there are red herrings, twists & turns to keep you engrossed & guessing all the way through. The author is a master storyteller & once again had me enthralled from cover to cover. Please don’t start this book late at night as you’ll be in for a sleepless night
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
This is the second book in the William Warwick series It was a good story but I had a hard time getting into it . In this one he gets a promotion and is placed in the drug squad so it was more a hard core book for me plenty of action with some of the characters from before and others added. All in all well written if you enjoy more of a hard core detective story you will enjoy this one
