The Millenia Ruby is stolen from the Ritzholdt Museum and insurance investigator Kate Diamond will stop at nothing to retrieve it … even if it means getting shot at, impersonating an FBI agent and tangling with a live volcano.
Enlisting the aid of her retired jewel thief parents and their band of thieves, safecrackers and con men from the Golden Capers retirement village, Kate arms herself … herself with a variety of gadgets and disguises to follow a trail of clues from icy Antarctica to a desolate tropical island. But she soon finds that what started off as an easy job may end with a deadly twist.
Why is someone going to so much trouble to keep possession of the ruby? And what, exactly, does Kate’s ex-partner, FBI agent Ace Mason, have up his sleeve? Is he really trying to keep her safe as he suggests, or is he simply trying to find the ruby first and take all the credit?
By the time Kate realizes things are not as they seem, she may be in too deep. Will she discover the real hidden agenda behind the theft of the gem before it’s too late?

Really liked the senior citizen criminals living in a ‘home’ in Florida. I can see that as the beginning of a series like the elderly detective Jessica.
This was a fun, quick read. I’m looking forward to reading the next in the series.
The ending is surprising but it seem contrived. As if the editor told the writer to finish the book and suddenly the story took a left turn, introduced a new character who made the ending suspenseful.
Great mystery book!
This was a good book- quick read, moves right along, somewhat believeable. Loved the gadgets and the mystery boss. Would read the sequel or other book by this author.
this book is written for teens, not adults.
poorly written – I could not get beyond the first few chapters.
Such a fun book to read! Looking forward to reading the other books in the series.
Had a lot of fun reading this crazy adventure. One never quite knew what would happen next.
Great summer beach book!
Get tired of women detectives who operate outside the box and get huffy about any suggestions.
I give it 3 stars because though fast paced it did not hold my attention as well as some books. Unusual theme and the sleuths were fun.
I enjoyed the book It was nice getting to know Kate diamond
A good original read that was easy to follow.
Not as good as some of her others but good.
I have enjoyed previous books by Dobbs, so I looked forward to reading this one. Hard as I tried, I couldn’t get very far. The writing was tedious-mostly telling instead of showing. I was very disappointed.
Enjoyed the story line, did not care for some of the language. Characters were likeable.
Far fetched storyline. Didn’t hold my interest. Read a little more than half but didn’t care enough about the story or characters to continue reading. I rarely leave a book unfinished but I felt I was wasting time that could be spent on a better book.
In spite of the fantastical elements of this book, it’s very believable. Characters very realistic. Highly suggest it.
This book boasts quirky, fun characters that fill traditional roles in a very nontraditional manner. I’ve read a couple of other books by this author (in different series) that were okay, but this one is better by leaps & bounds. And I’m intrigued by a couple of mysteries that were not solved by the end. Looking forward to more in this series!
I would read it again.
