Lost, groggy, and utterly devastated, MacKenzie Harper woke in the back of a truck with a kind man giving her a ride to safety. Her memory fuzzy, her senses on high alert, and her world teetering precariously on chaos, she has no idea who to trust but her nose says she can trust him. When her savior delivers her to Ranier, Preston, Jarret, and Anton Lejeune, Kenzie recognizes them as the sons of … the sons of the most famous werewolf family in Louisiana. They have to hide her, because Kenzie did the forbidden—she shifted. Werewolves are forbidden from shifting due to the Accords, and she’s always been good at playing human. So why did she shift?
That’s a question she’d like answered, but there’s more to Kenzie than even she knows and being around the Lejeune brothers rouses old instincts and desperate desires that will pull her four mates to her and together, they’ll face every challenge coming for them—even the ones they can’t see.

I absolutely fell in love with this story and these characters! I am not sure why, but I almost had an instant connection. I think it was probably how Gus was in the beginning and how the guys were standoffish and MacKenzie had no idea what was going on. I loved seeing her start to remember and blossom into the fierce young woman (and werewolf) she is. I fell in love with her guys it felt like as she was falling in love with them. I could not pick my favorite and that is saying something! I loved Anton’s inner strength, Jarret’s passion and fortitude, Ranier and his quiet leader demeanor (while trying to keep everyone safe and being vulnerable with Mac), and Preston trying to hold his family together after they all left him. I enjoyed the storyline and am excited to see where things go. The ending was devastating but I know it will only make her stronger, especially when she gets her life back. I loved some of the side characters in this story as well. MacKenzie’s family, Some of the Lejeune family as well (but definitely not all of them). I think MacKenzie’s powers are really cool and an interesting concept that I have read/listened to before. I instantly went and downloaded book 2 to start listening to after I am done this one. I am super excited book 3 is going to release next week (audio coming probably weeks after, I hope). Highly recommend on the story alone
The narration I thought was amazeballs. I loved the accents, it sounded authentic enough to me and I could imagine them in my head super easily. I could feel their emotions, the inflections and perspectives Maya does are spectacular (and I am super picky when it comes to narrators). The way the brothers interacted was on point, her male voice was great and all the accents (and Anton’s robotic voice help) were great!!
Highly recommend, gonna go listen to Book 2 ASAP. Favorite series of Rebecca’s so far
I love this book/audiobook! Kenzie and her guys are amazing! The storyline is unique and full of love, steam, action, intrigue, and suspense. The narrator is fantastic! I am so excited to see what happens in the next book in this series.
No spoilers of any kind included.
I thought Hidden was awesome, it kept me sitting on the edge of my seat wondering what was going to happen next all throughout the story, and by the time I got to the end I was left wanting and needing more.
So I’m going to say it’s a big HECK YEAH I most definitely recommend this book because I really enjoyed reading it and I think you will too.
I loved this book. The story is a little different from your typical shifter book. Mackenzie is a fighter. She has been raised to believe all wolves need to live as humans and let their wolf die. Once she is taken and rescued her life changes drastically. Things she used to believe in, she finds aren’t the truths. It’s a really good story. I love her mates. The ending gutted me and I can’t wait for the next book.
Hidden is continuous action, intrigue, and emerging romance. From the first page I was hooked and needed to know more about MacKenzie and the Lejeune men. I loved how each of the characters where developed and how all of the Lejeunes had their own way of bonding with MacKenzie.
This is the first in the series and ends with a bit of a cliff. You will want the next book in the series. There are more things that need to be solved and some threads of the story that will work themselves out over the next book. Overall, this was an excellent read that I couldn’t put down.
3.5/5 I loved the concept of this story, we meet Kenzie who has been saved from hunters after she was forced to shift. In this book omegas were killed off a while ago, and shifters no longer shift for fear they may go crazy. She has to learn who she is and what happened with the help of the 4 lejeune brothers. While helping shifters who have gone crazy, and fighting with their family and the council.
The story had a good flow and I really enjoyed the brothers and Gus. I love the way their relationship forms and that her being their really helps all the guys. They each have had to learn to live in a world where they can only embrace half of themselves. However, there were things that kept being repeated and words that kept being used many times and it made it seem repetitive and sometimes the dialogue between the characters seemed to formal and didn’t flow fully. The ending of the book was a very nice twist that I didn’t see coming and it will definitely have me looking for the next book.
I do so love when in paranormal someone has the ability to give us something different in the world of much the same. This author already has the ability to captivate you with this one turning out to be even more so.
She captures us with the intrigue with MacKenzie doing something that is the norm in most other novels. As this one unravels it ravels around us especially giving us the feelies when she meets those four that will be all part of the delight. This one gives lots to chew on and questions that form. Then before we know it we are held hostage in this world.
OMG wow! What an awesome adventure and not to be missed. This is a reversed harem storm so if that no your thing stop read. If you are adventurous then this book is so for you.
August Lejeune – Gus for short got the call from the Harper family that there daughter had been kidnapped. Since other in the werewolf pack was missing also it had to be the hunters. He was the best at tracking hunters and getting pack member’s back.
He found her far from home. MacKenzie Harper 22 from Colorado hight in the Rockies. Only she had no memory of her name of who she was or how she got there. For safety he took her back to his home in the Swamp. Where his sons could watch over and headed got to find out what happened to the rest of her pack because she wasn’t the only one taken.
Not telling any more because OMG this was awesome and you just have to read lol
Lots of surprises, action, drama, mystery, betrayal, spice, suspense, and twist. I couldn’t put it down and can’t wait for the next book to come out to pick up were this one left off because OMG wow got to were things go from here! I am majorly hooked on this adventure! It does leave of in a shocking ending like most of rebecca Royce books do so you cant wait for the next one to come out lol just a heads up lol I soooooooo can’t wait
Voluntarily review a copy and I honestly loved it
Hidden is the first book in a new series called The Swamp and this is a book that grabbed my interest from the beginning. I want the next book in this series. This book does end on a cliff-hanger a story I enjoyed reading. I received an Arc of this book and I am voluntarily reviewing,
Hidden behind fear review
omg
Wow I completely became lost in this book , I was hooked and could not put it down from beginning to end , from the first chapter I was done, and knew I wouldn’t be doing any housework or anything else for the day I love anything to do with wolves and feel in love with Mackenzie the female lead character, she is strong , determined, loving and caring wolf that needs to help others… the four brothers that she meets are gorgeous and determined to help Mackenzie and boy they don’t disappoint this book has everything you need in a great book action, sex, love, disappointment , betrayal, fighting and so emotional I cried at the end literally this whole storyline blew me away and can not wait to read the next instalment ….brilliant
This is a brand new series by Rebecca Royce. While she has written many books about shifters, this is the first RH about shifters. And she did a fabulous job. Quick run down, the wolves have been forced to sign the Accords, which says they can’t shift. They have to live like humans. Basically letting their wolf die. We are given a reason for this obviously otherwise the wolf community wouldn’t have gone along with it. So that’s what our female lead MacKenzie Harper has been doing. Living as a human. Now that’s all blown straight to hell. After being kidnapped, she somehow shifted for the first time. Unfortunately she doesn’t remember much. She doesn’t know why she was taken or what they wanted. While waiting for answers she’s hiding out in the swamp with the famous, and seriously hot, Lejeune brothers. Answers do come, along with a whole slew of problems.
So obviously with a new series we have to take some time to introduce the characters and delve into a new world. Rebecca does a great job of setting us up and making us feel like we really grasp everything. We get a really good feel for the characters, their pasts and what they’ve been through. That’s really important to help understand who they are now, why they are the way they are.
I admit I wasn’t fully invested in the first part of the book. It took me a minute to really get in there. Once I did though, I couldn’t put it down. It reminded me a lot of Rebecca’s Last Hope series which I absolutely loved. Just the way the characters interact with each other.
Now by the end of this book, I was dropping everything, hiding away from my family, trying to get those last chapters in. I just couldn’t wait to see what was going to happen. Then that ending. F’ing Rebecca. Talk about ripping my heart out and stomping all the hell over it. I AM NOT OK!! In a totally good way. Not as in good things happened but as in it’s a great story that has me dying for more. I did NOT see that coming and just the way that played out, ugh I’m dying inside.
Fantastic start to this new series by Rebecca and I hope we don’t have to wait too long for the next book. I know it will all be ok in the end, she always gives us a happy ending. My heart just hurts for my favorite character right now.
I thoroughly adored this new take on the werewolf mythos. Kenzie comes awake confused and fuzzy minded. She doesn’t know who she is, where she is, or anything at all. What in the world is going on! All she knows is this kind man is taking her somewhere “safe”. Little does she know her entire world is about to change in an instant! Rebecca Royce is a true wordsmith, and I’ve yet to not like a book or series by her. This is a RH book led yet again by a powerful female. Kenzie has a huge heart and wants to help anyone that’s hurting. So when she discovers she’s got the power to actually help those that need it, it makes her day. Weres are no longer allowed to shift by decree of The Council, and all Omegas are gone….or are they? Turns out our Kenzie is not only a newly formed Omega, but a pretty powerful one at that. Little things here and there have seemed off in the community, but once Kenzie arrives and finds both her power and her mates, things start coming together. Now she needs to find her missing family and figure out WHY she’s suddenly all powerful and how it all works. Get ready though as in typical Rebecca Royce style we must walk through LOTS of fire and tragedy until the HEA. So enter phase one and meet our wonderful Kenzie!!! I can’t wait for the follow up!
Two things I enjoy in books by Rebecca Royce are werewolves and her Reverse Harem. In this first book of the new Swamp series she has combined these two and now has me totally hooked.
MacKensie has just been rescued from a facility where the hunters were doing some sort of experiments. Her rescuer Gus is one of the famous Louisiana Lejeune Werewolves, he is taking her to his son in the swamps to keep her hidden and safe.
Preston Lejeune is more than a little surprised when his brothers show up at his home in the swamp. Anton, Jarret and Ranier rarely visit there preferring to stay with their mother and fathers in New Orleans. Apparently Gus, who is one of their fathers, feels they will all be needed to keep MacKensie safe.
MacKensie is more than a little disoriented, part of which is due to shifting which she had never done before. Shifting has been forbidden since the signing of the Accord. Yet somehow even with all the new smells assaulting her, it feels right. Like she’s whole.
Right from the start Anton, who had been kidnapped as an infant, is taken with her. He can’t speak as a result of that ordeal, yet MacKensie finds she understands him just fine. Ranier, is the Alpha of this group and is the most protective of Kensie, needing to provide for her. Jarret is the touchy feely one, seeming to need the touch like most wolves. Preston is the only one who stayed in the swamp. The home he considers his was his grandparent’s and even though it’s in disrepair, it is functional.
I loved the way they get to know each other even as danger begins to surround them. First in the form of Loup-Garou, this is when MacKensie discovers she can heal them and that is part of being an Omega.
There are many introductions in this book as we learn the history of the wolves and the origins of the Accord. The Lejeune’s as a family are formidable.
Then there’s the council and more issues as the suspense builds. All building to the lead up of the next book.
I loved this book, lots to absorb, love, suspense and plenty of heat in more ways than one.
I can’t wait for the next book in this series!
Hidden: A Paranormal Romance (The Swamp Book 1) Kindle Edition
by Rebecca Royce
I received an eARC and am voluntarily leaving an honest and fair review.
The Accords stopped the Werewolves from shifting. But Mackensie shifts against her will and finds herself in a Louisiana swamp with the four Lejeune brothers. She slowly discovers who and what she is. And the brothers discover that she is their mate.
While not my favorite of Ms. Royce’s books, Hidden is better than most writer’s best. My problem is the dialogue, in the beginning, doesn’t feel natural and about 1/3 of the beginning could have been cut out and the story would be just as good. With all that in mind, the end truly justifies the read.
4 stars out of 5.
